Well, I do agree with you that he should not leave yet.
But if you look at it, realistically, would you stay at your company just because it’s successful? And turn down a massive promotion, pay raise with full authority over that company?
If a coordinator aspires to be a HC, they need to strike when the iron is hot. Never know when the next opportunity will come along.

That's what many stated about Raheem.... I clearly remembered many posting some pretty distasteful things about Morris while he was with the Rams.
If I was an NFL owner in need of a HC, Shula would be at the top of my list to consider. I feel Shula has done a fantastic job with what he has been given.
And I agree that McVay does have his stamp all over the place, which IMO is part of his problem. I think if McVay focused more on the offenses 3rd down play calling and finishing teams off when having a lead, we could easily be 17-1.
IMO Aubrey stays with The Rams.He need to get away.In fact if he didn’t leave for Detroit I don’t think Shula would’ve been promoted above him.

BTW there’s NO WAY imo Raheem ones back as a DC.I also think he changed? Something happened in Atlanta that changed his character.He lost his stuff when they beat Tampa Bay.A great when but he went off & lost it.What his reaction on TV to the camera’s wasn’t a good look at all.
Another guy that has intrigued me for years is Jim Leonhard of the Broncos. Former player, transitioned to college coach, and been with Denver the past two seasons ... DB coach, pass game coordinator and assistant head coach. Leonhard would likely replace Vance Joseph as DC, should Joseph get a HC job.
However, I wouldn't expect McVay to go outside the Rams, unless it was someone he was familiar with.
I do not know. I have never worked for a company or organization that I would call successful, other than my own. The thing about the Rams is that you can objectively say that they are a successful organization.
To answer your question more directly, I would not leave a successful organization where I was a VP to go to an unsuccessful organization as the CEO. This is especially true when you take into account that Shula is the VP of Operations not Sales, assuming that Sales (offense) and not Operations (defense) is what determines the ultimate success of a company.
From my very limited experience with excess money and power, it does nothing for you in terms of life satisfaction or sense of purpose.
The exception to my point is if someone has something to prove. But then the question is, who do you have something to prove to other than yourself?
If Shula leaves it is because he doubts that he would be a successful HC. Given how long he stuck around as a position coach, I just do not think that external factors (like, money, power and and lack of self-worth) drive his psychology.
In the event of a hypothetical Shula promotion and departure I can guarantee only this.
McVay would be in position and have first dibs on virtually any DC candidate that he likes. Rams would be a golden opportunity destination for any prospect. That gives me great comfort.
