Yeah - there were games where Donald would be wrecking havoc in the backfield and his soft zone coverages would just get obliterated between the 20s. However, Morris was very good at limiting teams to field goals frequently in the red zone.
"his soft zone coverage would just get obliterated between the 20s"

This x100!

I think if Shula's last name was Smith, he wouldnt be so highly regarded
I think the defense can be greatly improved, just seems to me they've come out flat in many games, giving up early scores and not able to stop drives at the end of the 1st half or the game when in "prevent mode"

Shula lacks the aggressive mentality I like in my DC.

I’d take Bowles for sure.

I like my DC to be little psycho and able to call a cover 0 for no apparent reason
I prefer he leave. The players are out of position and not disciplined IMO.

I need the opposing QB jittery and seeing ghosts. I want my defense living in his head before, during and after the game.

The secondary has been a sh*tshow from the beginning.

The coaching staff (including McVay) made the inexcusable error of not drafting any cornerback help in the last draft because they somehow felt that we have enough quality on the back end to contend.

We're paying for that critical miscalculation every game now, DB's giving up multiple explosives while we sweat it out every game.

One would expect that the coaches would have got that right, because they see the work of our DB's - even the ones on the practice squad - every practice and during games.

I would prefer that we have a new defensive coordinator and a new defensive back coach, as fresh eyes are needed to assess our current DB's, and to decide on the quality of draft eligible DB's so that we draft or trade for players who can play.

I've had enough of the retreads, let's bring some talent in here.

This has been a longstanding problem with the Rams, and it finally has to be addressed.

I think there's a consensus that he's a top 5 candidate. Doesn't guarantee him a job but I think he's prob gone as long as D doesn't sh*t the bed in the playoffs.
I don’t believe there is any such consensus that puts him in the top 5 of all candidates.
Maybe top 5 coordinators who’ve never been HCs… but.. Saleh, A Smith, Stephanski, Flores.. Kingsbury.. those guys are all ahead of him.. and at least a couple OCs.
I just think he’s at least one cycle away.

Aaron Glenn was not good as an Assistant Coach or as a Coordinator & he got a gig. Shula looks the part & I’m willing to bet the house, he’s an outstanding interview.

Last year’s defense was better, but I believe he will get an opportunity this year & would love to hire Brian Flores as DC because Flores is no longer under contract in Minnesota.

Flores is another excellent DC who'd be a big improvement over Shula.

Smith and Kingsbury will be lucky to get interviews this year. People not as high on Saleh as you think. Minter who's not even on your list is probably the star candidate in a less than stellar class.

Minter
Shula (unless he shits bed in playoffs)
Flores

are the S-tier that teams are talking about and Stefanski and Kubiak will have to be right fit interviews and then everyone after that is even more dart throws right fit, who knows candidates.

I feel like Henny Youngman. "Take my wife,,,, PLEASE!" Shula is good some weeks, and confusing others. I think we can probably do better but if no offers I think he comes back as our D Coordinator. He's okay. We can win with him.

The one advantage to the bottom completely dropping out on this defense is that we shouldn't lose Shula. So hoping he sticks around and we get him some MFing players who can cover this offseason instead.
Watching GIF

Lester Hayes says he has solution.

Have any teams even requested to interview Shula?
I don't think there have been any formal requests yet, but Shula was listed as a Top 5 prospect about a month ago. But then the bottom dropped out on the D

Yeah, I haven't seen anyone ask yet to interview Shula. Wouldn't surprise me if he gets skipped altogether with that fading performance down the stretch.

I think Shula returns but for conversation purposes….

Jonathan Gannon as a DC candidate. Knows the division very well. Knows Sirianni and the Eagles very well. Team played hard despite all the losing. He didn’t have a QB worth a shit. Void of talent. Tons of injuries.

Gave McVay fits on a few occasions.

Anyone?

Yes, they have. Do you often answer questions with questions?
Haha. I'm serious. But it looks like Joseph and Kubiak have been asked but I see no one else yet. Not really what I'd call a demonstrative list and I expect it to grow to include Shula... mind you, those two coaches are coaching for teams with a bye this week.

Kinda funny how that works.

Well, for conversation purposes,

Former Super Bowl winning coordinator Jonathan Gannon wouldn't be the worst of hires. The Eagles' inability to replace him, helped fuel their epic 2023 collapse (F Matty Patty). It was just last season that Gannon beat the Rams 41-10. Yes, the Rams lost to the Cardinals, 41-10.

In one of the 2023 matchups, Gannon rolled out the Psycho front against the Rams. They got some good pressure and sacks off of it, if I recall. Stafford called a timeout the first time the Cards deployed it. Postgame, he said it hadn't been on film.

So yeah, for conversation purposes, if McVay wanted and got Gannon for DC, I wouldn't call it the worst move he could make.
