I think McVay’s saw what Shanahan did with the 49ers running game last year that led them to the Super Bowl, he knew he had to copy that blueprint. And that is to pound the rock more often than not. It’s back to the John Robinson football days with running Student Body right. Run, run, run. It would surprise me when we all hear JG16 calling “water, water,” and a cloud of dust from Henderson against the Giants.

I agree with you.-

I would expect McVay was desirous of what they were able to do in 9erville in 2019. The 9ers run game made an average mediocre QB look very good. I am sure Mcvay was saying to himself what Goff would be able to accomplish if he were playing in an offense like the 9ers with one of the top 2019 running games in the NFL. McVay also has the type of receivers that compliment Goff talents too. Never felt that Cook was a Goff type #1 receiver.

IMO McVay's offense looks very close to what he did when he got here in 2017. Gurley was still able to make some serious big runs back then & the OL Whit/ Havenstein/ Saffold/ Sullivan were making holes for Gurley. I like this new 2020 OL & the Receiver cadre much better now. The 2020 Goff model is also a major upgrade from his 2017 version. McVay is also well aware of his HC past 2018/2019 mistakes too. It would appear that things are trending up for this Ram team & its future.

No idea how well this OL will hold up through a full 2020 season plus additional games in the playoffs. Last season Kromer suffered through major injuries to all five starters. 3 were lost for the rest of the season & two others had surgeries at the season conclusion. Four new starters in that last half 2019 OL. Snead now has good depth here that has been absent since he got here.

Snead/McVay/Kromer has a Reserve Bench of OL'ers like RT Bobby Evans, OC Brian Allen & LT/LG Joseph Noteboom all having numerous starts in the NFL in 2019. Versatile Ol'er Coleman Shelton does not have any starts since being drafted by the 9ers in 2018 but he has been here since the season began last season & was active for most all 16 gms. Shelton started @ all five OL positions in college.

Just like we predicted, huh?
Some of my early poorly made predictions for 2020 were :

#1-LT Andrew Whitworth would be trending slowly downward in playing performances & Noteboom would be our reserve LT.

#2-Joseph Noteboom would not be our starting LG again in 2020.

#3-Austin Corbett would be our starting LEFT OG for 2020/2021 seasons.

#4- RT Havenstein would continue to struggle BIG in pass protection.

#5- Jamil Demby would not be a Ram in 2020.

‘Yeah, message board posts can be humbling after hindsight, huh?

Been there, done that myself. Lol.

The only two I was 100% correct on was they were not going to bring in any free agents or draft anybody in the early rounds.
I also predicted they would bring back Blythe at Center.

I was wrong in that I didn't think they were going to re-sign Whitworth because I thought they might have thought he was falling off after last year's performance and that they couldn't afford him.
(REALLY glad I was wrong)

I also hypothesized that they might trade Havenstein and stick with Evans at right tackle.
(They may have tried to trade him, I don't know)

I also thought they would keep the players in the same position that they finished last season in.

It was hard to really predict what Kromer was going to do after what we saw take place in 2019.

Yeah, the Blythe sign was almost set in concrete mostly because there was not much out there in FA'cy that was a better fit for his Outside Run Scheme. Allen was not a good fit. Blythe was hurt early. I never thought he was right afterward then he had both his shoulders worked on in the offseason too. I still thought he was just a good patch.

I was ready to move on from Havenstein its obvious the Rams were not. I still maintain that Hav will always have issues with those super quick smaller pass rushers with great inside moves. I believed that Evans could do a better job generally with the pass rushers but not as good in run blocking. As long as McVay can stick to an HD run game Hav we'll do fine. Hav will not have to deal with the 9ers DE Boza this season either.

Never saw the complete changing of the Guards coming ........with Noteboom in @ LG over Corbett & Corbett in over Edwards @ RG ........I was still amazed! Kromer must have seen that Corbett was just better on the right side working with Hav over Edwards. Corbett Hav communication must be the key???

Kromer said he moved Corbett to the right side because he didn't want Noteboom to have to switch sides if needed to step in for Whit at left tackle.

Hopefully noteboom can concentrate on being a tackle when he comes back from injury.

The Rams can't rely on whit forever. The player that replaces him needs to be ready from the get go.

Yeah, they'll need a replacement for Whit in 2023.

Kromer says Whit is probably quicker in some ways than he was six years ago due to the way he trains.

As much of a Boom supporter as I've been he's at the end of the line with me. If you can't stay healthy you're of little to no use to a team.

I'm guessing that he also didn't feel Noteboom should lose his spot due to an injury, which is traditional.

My girlfriend says I'm a lot quicker than I was a few years ago too but she doesn't seem too happy about that.

Yea some of them are seeing it now , but back during the offseason all I heard was how
bad our line was and how Snead should have addressed it in the draft and free agency.
But meanwhile back at ROD Nation we knew about the potential of our oline and that Snead & Co
had been quietly addressing it through the draft and trade for a while now.

So Ram, Don't you just love Snead's ability to find talent all through the draft and UDFA?
He has that professional river boat gambler mentality and I freakin love it.
He and McVay are not afraid to go against the grain. They are trend setters not trend followers.

You know I like somethings & dislike others.

1.Just basic examples of what I didn’t like. Cory Littleton not getting a locked in contract when he deserved it.Just look back at when he was making the transition from All Pro special teams type player to MLB.Mcvay(Bones) has him doing everything. He he never got a worthy contract. His body from Baylor always pushed him as well.-Fun to watch.

2.Gurley getting an early contract was not right imo. The Rams held Aaron Donald our twice before his contract.

3. Sullivan getting cut,as Whitworth said was hurt.If so then then The Rams needed a quality Guard.Which has NEVER been said through all the debates(post) with me. Corbett trade proves that, but know one wants to look back at that. That is on McSnead.Finding Corbett & starting Blythe where he should have been all a long. Never liked the Brian Allen pick.

Cutting Clay Matthews to me was a mistake. He brought a veteran pass rush that can’t be taught. I know a lot of fans think differently, but he & Aaron Donald played well off each other.Yes Fowler was to expensive & Robinson has been hurt. The Rams got lucky to get Brokers back, but for 2 years? Terrel Lewis was a Excellent Find though.

My point being is Veteran Leadership is Huge & bring young guys in is what is special. I like the combination, but respect the Old FA signings. Clay deserved to be a Ram when SOFI opened. He is a local guy.

Pissed I didn’t have Bills game recorded, because my take would have been different. Can’t even tell what the Offensive Line looked like.

Happy Sunday- Go Rams!!

Snead's Ram OL blending is near perfect. This 2020 OL might be Snead's best overall combination of 13 Ol' ers under contract yet. Depth has never been this good since.......?

LT- Whitworth 15 seasons/ 2nd UFA Ram contract / ex-All Pro
RT- Havenstein 6th/ Snead 2nd rd pick/PFWA All-Rookie Team 2015
OC- Blythe 5th/ 2nd Ram contract/ Snead signed off Colts PS
OT- Noteboom 3rd/ Snead 3rd rd pick
OC- Shelton 3rd/ Snead signed off Card PS 2019 ex 9ers 7th rd pick
OC- Allen 3rd / Snead 4th rd pick
OG- Demby 3rd season/ Snead 6th rd pick
OG- Kolone 3rd season / UDFA 3rd yr on PS
RG- Corbett 3rd/ Snead traded for 5th rd pick-former Browns high 2nd rd pick
OT- Evans 2nd season /Snead 3rd rd pick
OG- Edwards 2nd season / Snead 5th rd pick
OG- Anchrum 1st season / Snead 7th rd pick/ 2 x National Championship Team
OC- Cabral 1st season / Snead UDFA sign

Special Note: Snead ended up ahead of many other NFL teams by getting two young good starting OG's (one starting 11 gms the other started 7 in their first Ram seasons) by utilizing just two 5th rd draft selections.

Easily the Best Line The Rams have had since the SuperBowl run.

Tom Nütten & Kurt Warner we’re special players to me.Miller (Fred) & Carter we’re underrated Rams that Jeff Fisher took.

Ryan Tucker was depth & then Mad Mike never replenished it. Just as Nütten was for The Rams,Austin Blythe is a similar guy. Undersized players that I think should have been backup OG/OC’s Forcing them to be challenged by there backups.

Last season the Austin Corbett deal was amazing. Still wonder how Cleveland actually let a solid 2nd pick go for a 5th rd.

Like I have said about Edwards & Evans is they are both 1st/2nd rd 2020
draft picks at just 23 years of age.

Noteboom starting 2020 at LG still blows my mind that he was able to comeback so fast(well). Future is bright. Now the question will be how The Rams proceed in the future?

-You question Whitworth? I know now that LT is a position that I’m interested
in . Austin Blythe looks to be moving on in 2021.

This extra long Practice Squad really helps the O”Line depth out for future & potential players.
