Mmm...sounds good. But I still think that pumpkins and crows go together like bagels and butter, like a burger and fries, like barbeque and dry rub.

Not to rub it in, but...

Respectfully suggest an extra helping of crow, with the works-- feathers, beaks and talons--- for all those who loudly proclaimed that Aaron Kromer can't coach. The o-line is executing high precision blocking schemes for running and pass protection.

It isn't just the personnel this year. It's the coaching too. Kromer is once again showing he is one of the best in the NFL.

Here's a good short All-22 breakdown of Goff and the oline from the Rams site:

One thing you’ll notice about the graph is that many of the NFL’s best offenses are at the top with heavy pass frequency on first and second downs. The Cowboys, Packers, Bills and Chiefs all rank in the top five in total yards this season, while the Seahawks rank fourth in yards per play.
The Rams are second in yards per play and third in total yards, but they’re at the bottom of Ben Baldwin’s chart showing early-down pass frequency. That’s a rarity and also a testament to the effectiveness of the Rams’ ground game.
The running backs’ ability to pick up 4 or 5 yards on first down has been huge, keeping the Rams ahead of the sticks and making third down easier to handle. That’s certainly not lost on McVay.
“I mean, it’s big. I think the ability to be efficient on those early downs keeps us in third-and-manageables. I think that’s been a result of why we’ve been a little bit better on third downs,” McVay said last week. “So, a long way to go, but I think the first two weeks have been reflective of some things that we’ve wanted to focus on and being able to get a bunch of carries off is good because it means you’re able to control some of the possession as well, which I think has been good for our team.”
It's remarkable. What that current rate translates into: "we're runnin the ball motherfucker now stop it." And Buffalo was trying to.

I'm thinking of course that the sheer number of runs on first down were related to concerns about the pass blocking. So if the pass pro improvements we saw vs Buffalo continue I would guess the Rams normalize a bit.

I never said that Kromer couldn't coach; quite the opposite. I wasn't as concerned about the O-line as I was about the inside linebackers. I ate plenty of crow on Kiser, Blythe, and Havenstein, and I liked it. There's nothing better than being proven wrong in a good way.

I am here for some crow. I have always appreciated Kromer, but couldn't understand for the life of me why we felt comfortable with not making any additions to our interior OL. As a Badger fan, I had/have faith in Hav.....he is what we see in terms of strong run blocking and adequate pass pro. It is center that I couldn't understand, in particular.

I will share this. I am a huge McVay fan and honestly think he's scheming to make the OL sum better than it's parts. In short, I am not totally convinced we've turned the corner with the Ol. When I see us dropping back, taking 3 seconds to scan the field for deep shot attempts against a strong front 7, I will be convinced. So I'll "eat it" because it's been pleasantly productive in the first 3 games. But despite my optimistic nature, I will continue to go into games with a level of mistrust in terms of our OL holding up when we are down and need them to rise to the occasion.

Can't wait for the second serving!

I didn't intend to address any posts you or anyone in particular made, sorry if I seemed to do so. Not into personal criticism. Just making a point that Kromer deserves more respect than he has received at times in this forum, and hopefully we can recognize that.

Ah, okay. I definitely see where you're coming from, North. I can agree that Kromer deserves more respect. I'll still say that it feels so good to be wrong about Blythe and Havenstein.

I feel the same way. This is a case of Mcvay helping the Oline and the scheme making the run game better then the actual personnel.

But we ran the ball real well with basically this same personnel in 2018. Edwards and Corbett replacing Saffold and Sullivan if you will (with Blythe sliding now to center).

This line looks like it may be only average vs long developing pass plays. But if we can avoid penalties and keep running well, the longer pass plays may not be needed as much as one might think.

Good find. Thx for posting. It's amazing how much blocking is dependent on scheme and assignment. Being in the right spot and picking up the right guy, or doubling the right guy is half the battle. I hope we see more chipping edge rushers this year.

Have I ever posted about the Rams Offensive Line before?

I could not be more proud!

As a fan, I so enjoy & love watching a strong run blocking Ram OL.

Sure appears that Snead made the best moves possible with the cards he was dealt very early this year in free agency. McVay made the move to focused Kromer back fully on the OL. Kromer made the changes needed to help McVay regroup & reset his goal on his 2020 offense.

Same here! I honestly thought our OL would be better this year by not changing outside of the C position.

I couldn’t see them not doing anything with the Center. So far Ive had to eat my words as Blythe as been rather unexpectedly pleasant to watch this year.

I’m still convinced if Cushenberry was there at the Terrell Lewis pick we take him if Denver didn’t take him the pick before us. Maybe Blythe had a sense of that and was helped to refocus? Kromer been doing a hell of a job with these dudes.

Ps GO BLUE!

Man, I fucking love this. It shows that McVay is willing to adapt, that he's willing to take a good hard look at himself and change what's not working. And the Rams STILL have all of these pass catching weapons, the effectiveness of whom will be enhanced by a solid ground game. Yeah, baby!!!

Todd Gurley??? Mcvay F”d up last season. Whatever anybody wants to say ?? It was not that hard to figure out how things played out game by game.
Adapted ?? Look at GBay & Cinncy. Anyway will see how the defense pans out ?? There is 2 sides of the ball. McSneads 2020 draft will payoff. 2018 Draft The Rams really F”d up.

I’ll disagree with you again Bonifay’d .

This offensive line was good at the end of 2019. Havenstien was the backup RT while still healthy & Evans playing hurt.
Henderson was banged up & Gurley was slow through the hole.It doesn’t really matter though to me of about all the love now. This just didn’t happen overnight.
Whitworth was playing hurt.Evans & Edwards we’re only 22 years old & starting. Corbett was a mid-season pickup. My point is these guys were working well together last season.

Austin Blythe did not get enough credit for how well he played center hurt. The Rams has the 9ers beat & The Offensive Line did extremely well against a Top 5 defense after again beating Seattle.

I just know on another 3rd & 16 Tyler Rapp got burned late in the 4th qrt.
He had a excellent game the next week against the Cards, but I still am wonder about that 4th & 22 ?? Was that Tyler Rapp again??
The thing about The Rams offensive line now is the Depth. So as good as they have been playing Brewer is coming back next season at just 24 years old & Evans has not even gotten on the field. Noteboom was able to get more game experience & can concentrate as a backup LT?

I think the OL is playing great and the extra blocking the Rams are getting from its WRs and TEs is also a big factor in the successful run game.

I too, have been a big fan of Edwards since last season and was wondering why he wasn’t starting after coming outta camp. I hope they keep him next to Whitworth as long as possible. He’ll be a monster by the end of the year.
