@ScotsRam you sure you really want to follow baseball? It's honestly too long to sit and watch an entire game. Think of watching a full cricket game. Yes, it's really like that.

I like cricket!!!

You forget that not every elite player starts out well right out the gate. Yadier Molina, Adam Wainwright, Jack Flaherty, Kolten Wong, Harrison Bader, Paul DeJong, Tyler O'Neill, Alex Reyes, etc., etc. and so forth. And other good players win ROTY votes but don't win.

But anyway, the Dodgers learned their art from Branch Rickey - a former Cardinals GM who invented the entire idea of a farm system while he was with the Cardinals. The Cardinals were innovative long before the Dodgers.

And while yes, you do have more ROTYs than the Cardinals, I'd go so far as to say that the Cardinals farm system is more well-run from top to bottom, despite having winning seasons every year since 2007. Why do I say that? We manage to find major contributors from our farm system from such players like the aforementioned DeJong, Tommy Edman, Allen Craig, Lance Lynn, etc., players who aren't ranked highly by MLB standards. Some people literally go far as to call it "Cardinals' Devil Magic" - and I'm inclined to agree with them. We churn out MLB players at a higher rate than any team, including the Dodgers. And that's with a much smaller payroll.

So yes, you come out with ROTY candidates. I'll still take the Cardinals' system top to bottom; we're that deep with MLB talent, and I don't think it's an insult to the Dodgers to say that.
Yeah and I can name quite a few Dodgers that came up thru their system

Gonsolin Mays Buehler Urias Kershaw Jansen Smith Lux Seagar Bellinger and players that left for free agency Petersen Hernandez and probably others that I am missing

Ok so I have never been a huge fan of baseball but I have watched a lot more of it recently and I am really starting to enjoy it.

I would describe myself as a cardinals 'fan' just because when they had good runs with Pujols and Yadier etc I liked keeping an eye on them. The Rams were in St Louis at the time so it fit. Now that i am starting to properly get into it though i am thinking that i should either commit to the cardinals or go in a totally new direction.

This will be sacrilege for cardinals fans but i love watching the Cubs at Wrigley, the 7th inning stretch thing and when that place is bouncing it looks cool.

I also like the idea of the Dodgers because LA.

Teams that are not acceptable are those in seattle, San Francisco or Arizona. I want a team with a chance of winning but not the Yankees. And I dont want a team that are no hopers - sorry Colorado. Anyone else I will consider.

In exchange I will recommend European soccer teams for anyone who wants one, any criteria considered. Cheers!

Talk to me about these following options:

Red Sox
Pirates
Phillies

So a bit of a unique perspective, I've been a Dodgers fan since the Rams were in LA, a Pirates fan since my early youth, and a mariners fan since my later teenage days.

Love all 3 and follow all three, Mariners have been trash since the late 90's/ early 2000's, Pirates were beast in the early 90's going to multiple Pennants in a row (4 if I remember right) and LA was continuously in the shitter until the current owner ship group bought them and they have been very impressive so far as to putting the team in position to win. Dodgers have a great tradition and history, great stadium atmosphere and entrenched fandom, and seems as though they'll be looking for multiple championships in the next decade at least and probably 2.

I wear all 3 teams gear and I think it's some, if not the best looking baseball gear in MLB. Honestly, watching baseball might not be for everybody, but playing it and if you can go watch a game is very relaxing and a stress reliever, drinking beer, eating a hotdog and cheering, it's more kickback than watching an NFL game. If you get a chance if you ever make your way to LA or watch them on the east coast I'd recommend it.

Pick a team that you have hopes of actually watching.

The Yankees now want us to pay directly for Yes network. $80 per month. It’s this sort of thing that will detach fans even further from baseball. I miss watching them but I’m not forking out $480 per season to watch them play.
What cable network is that?
I dont pay extra for Yes, and now that they dumped Fox sports and have the Yes app, I dont miss any games. The cable network sets the pricing as far as I know

I just looked it up. It’s no longer available to streaming only options with the exception of AT&T live tv. The AT&T live option that includes it costs $85 a month. I cut the cable two years ago. I’ll have to search the Yes app. Is that phone only?
My neighbor gets them on. Ricky but I have a smart TV. Not sure if that would work.

I have the Yes app on my laptop, my apple tv and of course on my phone.
It requires your provider though to watch live, not sure if your internet provider counts

Nope, I tried it. I’m streaming only. I screwed up and got Hulu for the month. I could have gotten Direct TV app. Hulu live is $64. Only $20 more and I’d have the Direct TV app. . But I’m not getting both this month.

Can you do that VPN thingie and then get the MLB app? So they'd be out of network?
I pay less than $190 a month for my wifi, cable and landline phone (which is utterly useless)
For that I get all the sports channels, showtime (also useless) and Netflix (4 users)
Is going streaming only saving that much money?

I usually go with Sling Orange and Blue for $50 a month and can cancel any time. I cancel right after the Super Bowl. We always have Netflix and Prime. In the winter I'll get Disney plus or HBO for a few months. So, I am always around or under $100 per month. But that does not include my phone. We had Direct TV for years and the $180 a month bill was too much, especially considering how much we used it.

We are held captive by our internet provider. There is only one offering cable internet and we pay $100 a month. That combined with Direct TV plus a $150 phone bill was crazy.

So I'll drop Disney plus and already dropped HBO, and stick to Hulu until March. At least this year they have both ESPN and NFL network. I'll just wait until next year to figure out how I can watch Yankees games on YES. I can still watch them when they are featured.

I don't know if I can set up a VPN on my smart TV. I should look into it.

I like cricket!!!

The reason why I support the Cardinals is due to Cricket.

As I was a Cricket fan my mother bought me this book when I was a youngster.

ball1.jpg

It's about a group of kids who organise a backyard cricket match and ask a recently emigrated American boy, Ollie, to play.
Ollie plays and names his team the Cardinals. It's an awesome kids book from 1985 .... I won't spoil the ending for you all :laugh1:.. maybe wait for the movie version lols.

FYI ... Cricket can be long but there are different forms of Cricket -- the traditional 5 day Test Match , the one day format (50 Overs each) and the newly formed twenty-twenty competition which goes for about 3 hours and each team gets 20 overs each. (an over is where the bowler bowls six balls at the batsman)

Is there an updated version of the book @TK42-RAM where he rubs sandpaper on the ball rather than spitting on it?? Also you missed off the hundred, but that’s an absolute abomination so it was probably the correct choice.
