Oh I'm sure there's going to be teams willing to take a flyer on him even if he still needs time to heal. But as far as negotiations with the Cowboys go, I'm not sure they're going to feel obligated to offer him the same contract they previously did.

They would be insane to offer it again.

I can't even remember a player having that bad of an ankle injury.

I think that the Cowboys have all the leverage now. There's going to be an element of "unknown" regarding his recovery from that injury. I despise Jerry Jones but the NFL is a business and he's going to make it a business decision. Cowboys offered Dak a contract, he didn't accept it - what incentive do they have at this point to offer him a similar contract coming off an injury?

They have no leverage? If Dak were to want to sign a long term contract with the Cowboys, they have no leverage? Of course they do. As talented as Dak is I can't see a better situation for him than the Cowboys, in terms of offensive talent around him. But I don't know the guy personally so I can't say if he values a Superbowl or the largest contract he can get.

Edit: If Dalton strings together some wins then there is more in the Cowboys' front office court and they'll be more likely to let Dak walk. But saying that their only options are to franchise tag him or let him walk is assuming he doesn't want to come back to the Cowboys on a long term deal.

These are the two things that stand out for me about him, especially the taking sacks part. I know the guy doesn't have much in terms of a supporting cast at the moment but he's been pretty bad in general. Guess I expected more from someone people were calling "Danny Dimes."

I hate the Cowboys but I like Dak the person, and he's been maturing into a really great QB. Hope he's able to fully return some day.

In a perfect world he'll come back 100% but no one really knows. I'm sure that there will be plenty of teams willing to offer him a long term contract but it really comes back to what is important to Dak - highest bidder or best chance at a ring. If the Cowboys get their shit together on defense I think he has a good chance of winning the NFC East with them for the foreseeable future.

IF the reports are accurate, the Cowboys offered him a really fair contract and he turned it down. He gambled and it didn't work out for him, that isn't the Cowboys' fault. No reason he should be pissed at anyone. It's a business and the Cowboys made a business decision which, at the moment, looks like worked out in their favor this time around.
