I've NEVER seen a standings sheet like the NFC East right now...If ever there was an argument for adjusting the seeding protocol, this is it...Wow, embarrassing !!! The "winner" of the East this year ought to have to forfeit in the 1st round...

If the division winner doesn't get into the play-offs what's the point of having divisions? How do you work out the schedule if there are no divisions? Don't try to fix what isn't broken and just live with the fact that this will happen every now and then.

Seattle won the NFC West with a 7-9 record a few years back. You also can't knee jerk. This is the first time its happened, so let this year be the outlier and move on.
Should never happen.I've NEVER seen a standings sheet like the NFC East right now...If ever there was an argument for adjusting the seeding protocol, this is it...Wow, embarrassing !!! The "winner" of the East this year ought to have to forfeit in the 1st round...

Hosted New Orleans, who of course had a winning record, and beat them.
Which is why changing the format, or even suggesting it, is so silly. It's an ebb and flow thing. NFC lEast may be the worst division now, but there was a time that the division was elite, winning 8 of 14 SB.I know, but is the first year where a team woth potentially double digit losses could go.
I dont disagree that they are a team who can compete. Really the only game their doors were blown off was against our Rams. They've got a pretty tough schedule ahead, @Pittsburgh & @ San Fran the next 2 weeks, then host Seattle and Carolina, then finish on the road @ Philly. If they can pull 3 wins out of that, I think it would be pretty impressive. With Smith at the helm The “Former Redskins” look like a team that can compete. They have a decent t running game, talent at WR, and a sound defense. I’d not be the least surprised (actually 100% that they win the East) that they make the playoffs.

I know you are attacking the inequity of a division winner in a historically weak division, but to preserve the divisional champion format I think the "winner" needs a playoff entry no matter what their regular season record was. BUT, I think it would be fair if a Wild Card Team with a better record could have home field against such a weak division winner. that finished with an 8-8 or worse record The loser division champ deserves no breaks and should be happy just for a chance to be in the tournament.Idea:
Keep same system, but add minimum playoff qualifying record.
For example, 8-8 minimum for division winner to advance to playoffs. If under minimum, next highest seed gets the playoff spot.
This is where my head has always been. Besides, in the NFC East, every fan of those teams remains interested in their team due to the fact playoffs are still a possibility. That’s a good thing for them.
Its hard to see a “better team” miss the playoffs, but that’s so subjective anyway.
Win your division. Make playoffs. Control your destiny.
I like it as is.
