totally call BS ??

what TE has covering up Bobby Evens & HOW OFTEN ??

He got Goff hit once , but not sacked. Helped Goff up & gave him a little pat on the butt.
Bobby Evens had a solid game & contained his blocks. He was not covered up anymore than Whitworth. Mundt vs Higbee on a few occasions. I see the seahags game different than you & think Big Rob came into camp a little heavy (fat).
also going to start another post or continue one I’ve already started.
—Will see how things play out, but disagree until I see something different. Got rid of the game tape, but Bobby Evens was solid & Collinsworth thought the same.

I see you actually watched the Seattle game.

good post if you believe Steve Brown !! I totally disagree, even Hav as a RT in 2018.
Big Rob did a good job at run blocking, but his footwork is CRAP!! Gets always with using is long arms.
Still think RG might be a better position for him ?? Not sure because that ship had sailed. He has been penciled in at RT & payed well to do so.
In no way I take Evens out right now & replace him with Hav !!
This post should not be here. It should be on the Hav thread to start !!

Agree except for putting Rob at RG. They tried that a couple seasons ago with Brown and Hav. Apparently it didn't work out well. Not sure if Rob was a bad RG or Brown a bad RT...

All I can tell you is rewatch the game. I'm certain there are others who saw what I did.

In each case of the play, Evan's blocked to his left. He didn't even attempt to block Clowney. I know if he was missing his assignment, someone would have said something to him. That's why I concluded it was by design.

I have game rewind, so I'm gonna try and clip a couple of them.

cool !! Not sure that is his block ?? Clowny is a freak coming off the edge, not to many player run down the backside that he does.
Even so Evans played well. I agreed I saw it twice at most from Evans side ??

The post is as much about disagreeing with the observation as it is agreeing with him. But I was just pointing out that nobody was (they are now) acknowledging the point he bolded right up top.

McVay protects Evans alot

If you didn't see the same thing, discuss. But it's a good post because it uses an actual on field observation instead of generic statements like " Don't bench Evans cause he's hot". We know o-line play is more nuanced than that. Even if he's wrong, it's a fun thing to go back an look at.

People lose jobs all the time in the NFL due to injury and I anticipate the same situation here. People wanting Hav to move to the interior must not remember his struggles from two years ago, the dude cant play inside. IMO the only way he stays on the roster is as an insurance OT if Whitworth plans to retire. Seeing how big Whit has played his best football this year over the last 7 games I have a hunch he might want one more year. Evans is younger, more athletic, and cheaper. That is never a bad thing on the OL. There is no excuse for how bad Hav played this year.

well did watch it again.Live is different than rewatching a game.
Evens is playing better than Edwards right now !! Snead did an excellent job with those 2 guys. Evans was drafted before Edwards as well, doesn’t always mean they liked him that much better. Sometimes I think Snead has a good idea of a players draft value & can’t redip. Edwards coming off an injury made his value drop. His upside is pretty well.

Well someone will be wrong !! I’m willing to stick with Bobby Evans. Big Rob’s has been less than stellar.
I think chemistry is huge and right now Evans Edwards have a good chemistry going on, therefore I’m sticking with Bobby Evans at right tackle.
Big Rob may be the better player at this point, but coming off an injury, and thinking about Bobby Evans future it’s pretty cool.
This group should be able to make a run for the playoffs. They have done nothing to not be on the field together.
I’ve been a huge fan against Austin Blythe playing right guard. I’ve always been a fan of his being a swing guard center because of how he’s played since taking over for Sullivan year one. He also stepped in for Roger Saffold,Before winning the right guard spot over Jemon brown.

that was my point !! Jamin Brown could not play RT. Big Rob has been solid at RT for the most part. This year has been different & I think playing next to Blythe at RG is not fun game in game out.
Blythe is a better center because he is not asked to block as much as play calling. He gets more support at center.

Hav's first experiment at OG was short lived for a reason, do we really need to attempt this transition again ?
They tried him there briefly in a very small window of snaps and he didn't look good. By that logic we should never have tried Evans at RT because he didn't look good at all in preseason.

Tbh I'm kind of tired of people citing that as proof that Havenstein can't play OG. Or using it as part of a logic chain that he's garbage. The guy struggled vs speed rushers this season. That is the truth of things. And he had Blythe next to him getting trucked every other snap.

By now people should realize that these guys affect each other. OL are weird. I know you know all this not firing off here at you or anything just observing that fans acting like him ending up at RT means he cannot play on the interior is silly.

Havenstein is a hard worker and conscientious player who is going to come back strong. His value to the Rams is probably greater than it would be in trade. So barring addition of a veteran OG in FA he will undoubtedly be tried at OG and at the least gives us stronger competition than we had this past offseason. Which is also important as a worst case scenario. But IMO he's going to make it back as a starter at this level even if it's with another team.

I have wondered whether or not it was the interior of the O-line that was getting pushed back, and Goff had no room to step up in the pocket. Big Rob has always pushed the speed guys right past Goff but, in this scenario, Goff had no room to step up and out of the way. Just a thought.

Yeah not having room to step up definitely affected him and Whit as well. But still I do think Hav deserves criticism. I just feel like flushing the dude is a bit over the top.

Trading a player who has value for value is not the same thing as flushing him, especially when there may be a younger, less expensive talent waiting in the wings.

The thing is his value will be impacted by his contract. He probably has more value to the Rams than what they'd get back and in fact they might need to entice a team to take him.

Only way all that makes sense to me: if they sign a top OG in FA.

Well, as mentioned previously, while a top OG like Scherff would be great, it shouldn't be necessary so long as Whitworth remains the unit mentor and Edwards, Corbett, Brewer and whoever lands the reserve Center/OG job is worth their salt.
LT and Center are my priority for 2020 now, and the starters may very well be already on the team, but I still draft both for starting competition and/or depth. Havenstein's extended contract should put him over the top as quality trade bait.
jmo.

i think The Rams will always look to the draft, but Kromer is pretty much set with this group to develop. A lot of Ascending talent.
Big Rob is a part of the group, just not sure it is worth messing with team chemistry.
I believe Mcvay has to take some blame for Hav, but then again what experience these young offensive lineman got in preseason. Priceless.

this new LG has really picked up the line. Corbett was a late trade who has made such a difference.

my thought on center is resign Blythe & Allen is under contract. Can’t see him getting cut. I think the center postion is already addressed. Why are fans saying Corbett as the starting center ?? Maybe with a full offseason he becomes the man ?? To early to tell, but sure nice to see solid play upfront.

The Niners game is going to be a real tough test & will be for the season.

I don't think Evans is near Hav's 2018 year....Hav was 1 on 1 a lot....Evans almost never is
1 on 1 on 7 step drops....the coaches know, and limit Evans; and, the film don't lie. Evans will be a very good player. I could be wrong...I watch and re watch Edwards and Evans on every pass and run right.

Havenstein should have gotten the help that Evans gets them, because Rob was atrocious all season

lol — as a poster just posted about the 12man ?? They were running a lot of 2 TE sets. Whitworth was protected just as much. Evans went against The freak a couple times as well. He stood him up a couple times.
There one poster talking about Clowney running down the RB. Imo that was not his assignment ?? Yeah - Big Rob look like he enjoyed his offseason a bit to much. I also think not getting those preseason reps helped the young guys , but hurt the starters besides Whitworth.

Just a little bit of difference between a guy starting his third year and a guy starting his rookie year. Not saying Hav can't make G work but at his cost and with how he's played lately added to what we saw when he first was tried at guard that's a lot of reasons to not think it'll work. Dump him and his salary and draft depth.
