“I’m just going to be completely honest — I was shocked,” Jones told reporters. “We got off the flight from Houston and I got told that I’d be traded. No bad blood. There wasn’t even any contract talks. We never even talked numbers. It was just, ‘Y’all aren’t extending me? OK, we’ll play this year out.’ So I was under the impression that I was going to finish this year in L.A. and then move on, but it happened earlier. Love my guys over there, love the team that gave me my opportunity, so it’s no hard feelings on my end.”

The Rams' handling of this matter does not make sense.
That does NOT mean they were wrong to give him away ... and that trade WAS a give-away.
It just means that we fans don't know the full truth.

We can speculate and guess but ... right now ... we don't know.

What we do know is that Jones was in the final year of his rookie contract, coming off a productive season and the Rams were not going to extend him. We know Jones missed much of the off-season work-outs and Training Camp practices with knee issues that plagued him for much of 2023.

Were the Rams concerned about Jones’ long-term health?
Had he shown a significant decline in performance?
Were there frustrations on one, or both, sides related to contract discussions?
Had Jones demonstrated any negative behavior or attitude?

No idea …
Unclear exactly what happened, or what the Team’s thought process truly was but the Rams lost their best off-ball-LB, making an average-to-good position, a Team weakness, in my opinion.

Completely agree with this. I can only speculate that McSnead thought he was dogging it (injury? availability?) since the announcement was made that he was going to play out his contract. The trade just doesn't make any sense, especially 10 days from the season opener.

The cult Lol I haven't been watching that channel this year as much as I have in the past and the few times I tuned in I wasn't impressed. I can only take so much filler and I don't have the time to watch a channel try to stretch to 20 minutes what they can say in under 5. In stark contrast I liked what I saw with Locked On the other day and they will be my Rams source when going the YT route. That X nonsense just rubbed many of us the wrong way and for me it was the final straw and the camel is on IR.

One of the painful things about YouTube since everybody wants to be a YouTuber is people make content and try to prolong it to get paid or promoted the maximum with whatever the YouTube parameters are for that. The result is shit posting so they can get extra ads in.
I think you're giving that guy way too much credit. Cult leaders are usually pretty charismatic.

Well if I said what I really feel I'd be facing another several day suspension again and how would ROD react without my analysis of the 2024 season? :laugh2:
Plus I don't want the cult to label me a "bully" or " bad guy" again

I saw reports that Jones was not reporting to practice until the Rams renegotiate his current contract. Tried to hold Les Snead and the Rams hostage right before the season started. This was bad advice from his agent and a bullshit move and guess what it backfired.

The Locked On Rams podcast is one of the few I actually listen to. Generally through Sirius XM on my computer at work while I work. About to catch up on last two days actually. But they are a good listen. Knowledgeable about the Rams like true fans would be, goes over any event that has happened with the team, gives opinions based on facts and without emotion, and doesn't bad mouth the team. I recommend them for anyone wanting a Rams centric podcast.

Honestly I like the Locked On Rams guys, very good info, informative, concise etc. My only complaint I wish that dude would stop with the radio voice shit.

His normal voice when he forgets the radio voice is pretty damned good.

We should have gotten a better pick. Snead always gets fleeced on trading away players pick wise. Where the Rams make up for it is that they draft very well with those late picks more often than not lately. Unfortunately the pick isn't until 2026 which is terrible as it doesn't help us anytime soon. We lost depth at the LB position in case of injury. With that said, I get trading him away if he became a problem but it can still very well can bite us in the ass. Time will ultimately tell.
Yeah, you're a good poster, no doubt, but "fleeced" is flat-out nonsense.

A 3rd round LB who is good, but certainly not a top 10 player, with a knee issue on the last year of his deal.

Tell me what you think he should've gotten for EJ and I'll go look up comps to see.

Did he get slightly less value than he could have if this happened earlier in the offseason? Maybe, sure.. I'll go along with that.. but the idea that he got fleeced.. that he gave up a ton for nothing.. is silly.

Since the 11 personnel pod went quiet, there's nothing I want to listen to out there. Locked On is inoffensive.. but doesn't bring anything this board doesn't provide.. and, quite frankly, this board has plenty of guys who know the Rams shit way better than the two on that pod.

Rams Bros is unlistenable.
Jake is unlistenable.

I listen to some national guys to learn more about the league and that helps me put what the Rams do into better context.

What if the position is clearly better by the end of the season? In time for Playoffs?

McVay looked too pissed for it to have been just the injury. I really think EJ or his agent or both, did or said something that made McVay say "fuck this I'm done". I don't think we'll ever know for sure though.
I wonder if McVay is pissed because he wanted to keep Jones but Snead made up his mind.

Then the Rams sit Jones and play the top-ILB-performers ... But ... the Rams don't have that option now.

You're being optimistic ... that's fine. I am also hopeful.

But that's not my point. My question is ...
How does this move make the Rams better right now?

You telling me they would not be better-off with Ernest Jones on the 53, and Elias Neal on the PS?

Now, if Jones was being a problem in the locker-room, that's different. Like I wrote, the Rams may have made the right move to dump him but we don't know what happened.

Giving away a pick to a team that had a bad need for a LB in Jones, an above average starting LB, just to get a 5th is fleeced to me. Besides is no one else paying attention. Snead gave away a fucking 6th round pick. They basically separated him from his child hahahaha. I really don't like the fact that we gave away a pick. I get it is a late round pick but those are also the same picks that we've been hitting on lately hence why I say fleeced. But if I'm being honest, I'm over the trade by now. It is what it is and hopefully the Rams make the best of it and we're surprised by what we have on the roster. I'm not banking on it but I'm hoping to be surprised. As of right now, our LB depth is bad. Sorry if edited late but we should have gotten at least a 4th rd pick especially if the pick is in 2026.

"Better right now"

vs

"Better going into the playoffs"

Which is more important.

I think rosters and locker rooms are complex things.. and that culture is important. We don't know what we don't know, but the Rams seem to have a good sense of these things under McVay.

Yeah.. but it's just not fleeced. It's hyperbole. The difference a player like Jones makes vs the other guys just isn't nearly what you're suggesting. If Jones was a true sideline-to-sideline difference maker, I'd agree. He's not. He's literally bad in coverage. Really good at other things. With his speed and instincts.. there's a chance Speights is a more complete LB who can actually stick with RBs and TEs in ways Jones could not. This is speculation.. but the Rams have seen Speights every day and are the ones who made the choice.

They traded a player and flipped picks.
You're suggesting maybe a round of difference here in picks.. maybe a round and a half if we include the value of the sixth. If the Rams finish with a great record in 25 and the Titans finish with a poor record?? The difference becomes even less.

Don't overreact.

"Better right now" ... Without knowing more facts and specifics, the Rams are NOT better right now

vs ... This is NOT a "vs." situation. It's ... The Rams are better off now VS. They are not better off now

"Better going into the playoffs" ... Are you assuming that? That's the optimism I mentioned; and having Jones right now would NOT prevent this possibility unless he was being a disruptive and a negative influence ... which we DON'T Know

It seems like you are avoiding the simple question I asked because, without more information, the answer appears obvious.
