Where do they fit though? Between Noteboom, brewer, Whitworth, havenstein, and Evans, who goes?I think we would be crazy NOT to draft another LT for the upcoming season, just to compete for the future starter/back-up roles.
Very possible. Although if he becomes an elite pass blocker I doubt most teams would replace that, especially at the left tackle position.Question is can we live w/ Noteboom's piss poor run blocking? Come playoff time the good teams will take avg of us and shift over on run downs. Just my two cents
yeah his run blocking definitely needs to improve but I just don't think you give up on a tackle prospect who is elite at past blocking, especially in a passing league. I need to keep an eye out for Brewer this year. His name's been brought up a lot this summer including by people like Snead.I hope not. I'd prefer a more complete left tackle. Joe did good in pass blocking but he still is a lousy run blocker. It would suck to go back to only being able to run to one side. The offense looked so much better with Whitworth playing. I'd like to see the Rams shoot for a guy like him over settling on a one dimensional tackle
How much would they have to pay Noteboom? If he hits free agency then its a good chance the Rams won't want to outbid for his services a la Blythe, unless he doesn't get good offers. I'm hoping Brewer comes in this summer showing that he could take over at OLT if needed.
I think Whitworth was a once-in-a-lifetime thing when it comes to good left tackles hitting the market.Seemed like Boom was pretty average.
I'm hoping they back up the Brinks truck for a vet LT next year
So maybe that'll be the importance of brewer. Maybe you bring them both in the back next year and let them fight it out for the left tackle spotI've been huge in his corner since drafted like most Rams players. But my issue with him is the old saying "the best ability is availability" He's injured too much I'm all in for a replacement this year or the next.
aren't right tackles usually the physical ones? I don't know how boom would fit there. Also, I just have to say this, havenstein is a good right tackle. well above average. I just always feel the need to say that when I see it because most stats have him as being good despite his problems with speed brush. But he gets underappreciated.I'd rather prep him to play RT and draft/sign a better LT. But he's not better than Hav right now and Hav is just average himself. So that should say everything you need to know. With the Goff and Gurley dead $ coming off the books next year, and the salary cap going back up in 2022...I bet next offseason we spend big on a LT. Because this is likely Whits last year.
I'm not so sure that they draft two offensive linemen in this draft. They still have Edwards and Evans and it sounds like they like Brewer among many others. But you could be right. They can't operate under the assumption that he is, so I'd imagine we draft a tackle at some point.
In fact, with the Rams penchant for drafting to replace FAs next year, it's worth looking at key players who are FAs next year:
D Williams
SJD
Corbett
Kiser
Obo
Noteboom
Young
Allen
Lawler
Mundt
There's really no replacing Williams - we drafted Long with a day 2 pick and it hasn't worked out - that's not to say we won't draft a CB, but I wouldn't prioritize it. I'd focus on extending him now.
Obo, Young, Allen, Lawler and Mundt are non factors and easy to replace, maybe with guys already on the roster or UDFAs.
That leaves SJD, Kiser, Corbett and Noteboom. We're going to draft at least two offensive linemen this year, so that's covered. SJD is the type of player we don't re-sign, and Gaines would be able to take over - depth may be needed now though.
This should bump ILB up the list of needs too. So my priorities would now be:
OL
ILB
OL
WR
DL
WR
Then free agents to compete at EDGE, TE and CB for depth
small sample size but when he was in the position to play left tackle he filled in pretty adequately. I feel like that's enough to at least see what he's got as a starter. Maybe a camp battle I guess.Noteboom is good to have on the bench as someone who can come in and not be a huge drop off for the short term. As a starting left tackle in the National Football League? ....I’ll pass

Yeah..... let's not do this - mkay?Imo That is FREAKING DUMB to think.
I believe Ram fans have been ruined & solidly spoiled since 2017 when the Rams signed future HOF Andrew Whitworth. I still have horrid nightmares recalling the seasons after Orlando Pace's shoulders gave out & all the Dozens & dozens of flaccid Ram starting LT's that pathetically tried to replace him. Disasters after disaster!
Even now the Rams are running on an old tire called Whitworth & it appears that they will ride on him until they can see the air inside that tire. AW is already the oldest starting LT in the NFL & he was the last two seasons. He is moving into Jackie Slater territory now.
What evidence do we have that this Ram organization has produced to indicate that they have any concerns about finding a starting LT to replace AW since Noteboom was drafted in 2018?
They drafted RT David Edwards & they started him @ both OG posts for two seasons. They drafted swing OT Bobby Evans & started him @ RT & LG. They draft a very short 6-1 5/8th RT in Tremayne Anchrum & he has yet to play in the regular season. They signed RT/RG Chandler Brewer & he did have snaps @ LT in 2019.
I'm saying that if Noteboom gets to that point and his run blocking is still suspect.Elite?
