At the time of the Blythe signing you gave no hint that you found the move "baffling." In fact, you sure sounded open to it when it was first announced. (And yes, I'm playing the "gotcha" game.)
When Blythe signed his one-year extension in March, 1328 wrote:
"Hope he's fully healthy. And yes, would rather him [Blythe] play center than guard, he was better at the former than the latter.
....having him now at least gives them flexibility to not have to reach for an OL."
Sure sounds to me like you thought at the time that, if healthy, Blythe was a reasonable option to start at center. But now you say, "Just for the life of me can't understand what they were thinking with that one?" C'mon.
Just a reminder: at the time, after taking the cap hot for Cooks and Gurley, and signing Flowers and Whit and Brock, the Rams barely had any cap money left. So they signed an average C to a one-year deal as a stopgap solution. Everyone knew that.
