Here is a honest question:
surgical masks block particles that are as small as .2 microns
covid 19 particles are .1 microns or smaller.

How effective can surgical masks or homemade masks, really be against this? If this is true, then why are medical people pushing this? Is it a new opiate for the masses?

I think that the covid particles might be .1 micron in singular form but when they clump together with spit, mucous and other yucky stuff they are much larger and that is how masks can filter them.

As far as everyone claiming masks don't work. Well no shit they don't work if they don't seal around your face. But if you use a proper fitting mask made from effective filtering materials then they do work. Those N95 masks are a joke. Look at the gaps between them and the face. I mean duh. Big surprise those don't work.

Here's a perfect illustration of the silliness of this whole thing.
(tomorrow night these two will be grappling and bleeding on each other in Jacksonville) :ROFLMAO:

The business practice of optics. That is why the big boy companies who's employees deal directly with the public are now enforcing mask wearing. Simple optics. Public perception. They're certainly not primarily concerned with public safety. Maximum occupancy directives are being ignored, their cleaning and sanitizing initiatives result in very little actually being done other than standard procedures, and employee exposure protocols are half assed measures(I can attest to this personally)...but when a customer enters that store it looks good with all the Covid procedural feel good signs and employees wearing their mostly worthless masks.

God forbid that an employee tests positive and they're forced to shut down that big box store for a day or two in order to organize and mandatory test all of the employees that work in the building, that touch the same time clock, eat in the same breakroom, use the same handheld devices etc. Nope, doing the right thing is far too costly and would surely project poor optics.

I do a lot of work inside hospitals, and I've had the opportunity to talk to quite a few doctors about this. The main issue behind everyone wearing masks is that people aren't even using them correctly. Specifically:

A) They're not fitted. If you have a beard, any mask (including a respirator) is basically useless.
B) When medical staff use masks, they don't touch them. And if they do, they're immediately replaced. People are out here touching everything, then touching their faces and adjusting their masks. Now it's basically an incubator instead of a mask.
C) Bandana or fabric masks? LMFAO. You already explained why that's a joke.

The ONLY (and this is a quote) legitimate reason to wear a mask is if you're caring for an infected person, and if you're of the age group (above 64) that is more susceptible to complications from a Covid infection. All of these people wearing masks are basically just using them to *feel* safer. They're not. All of the retailers who are enforcing a mask policy, are doing so because it limits liability in the event someone contracts the disease around the same time-frame they visited one of these establishments.

It's panic porn. Some people, it seems to me at least, NEED to feel like they're facing death head-on.

While what you say is correct, have you seen how many people spit when they talk? If the only thing between their spit and my lips is a mask I'm gonna wear one. Even if it's a one in a million chance of connection.

That's certainly your right. But let me ask you this. Since there will be no cure for this (or influenza), and since it will never go away, how long do you intend to wear one?

Hygiene is something we should all be practicing. I am the guy that opens doors with my elbow so as to not touch it with my hands. So i like to see peole covering their pie-holes and washing their hands like their life depended on it. Please keep up the good work

But yes - it’s all a big fucking lie

The core issues that would truly save lives won’t ever be addressed except for people like me, and since I have no authority in these matters my take means nothing to anyone outside of of my family.

The core issues like sugar intake, a shitty archaic health care system that treats the symptom and not the root causes is what really needs to be examined - but there is way too much money to be made making what will be a shitty vaccine than really tackling what is wrong with this country and the world for that matter.

People in this country love living the lie. It’s all they’ve know. And until we dose the water supply with four way window pain or orange sunshine the oblivious nature of modern society will continue to limp forward into this so-called “new reality.”

People eat like shit.
They do this cause it’s all they can afford - and those tasty salty oil-saturated freedom fries are too good to resist when you are throwing down on a burger from the dollar menu and a large sugar syrup infused beverage. That leads to fungus, bacteria, and virus to fester on the organs, and it stresses your body out and diminishes your immune system over time. That makes you more prone to buckling under to things like the flu - like covid 19 or the regular old version that’s been wiping out hundreds of thousands of people a year over the past millennia.

It’s gonna be hard to put the brakes on such billion dollar lies like our current health care system and how people eat. I mean this nation is just one big alcoholic. How does one tackle that?

Curing disease doesn’t start with treating the symptom. But what does your doctor do when you have arthritis? He puts you on a plan to help manage the symptom without fixing the cause. The cause is fungus, bacteria, or virus overwhelming your organs or lymphatic system, etc. but where is the money in that? Companies like Standard Process that aim to fix the core issue are deemed as quackery cause it infringes on the multi-billion dollar status quo that we call the health care system.

I visited the doctor two years ago. He tested my blood. It was high in cholesterol. So what did he do? He came in freaking out saying i needed to go on Lipotor or some pill. I smiled and said yes, went home and tossed the prescription in the trash. I knew what was fucking me up. My diet. Lots of beer, lots of red meat, tons of coffee, lots of sitting around watching TV. So i cut down on all of it, drinking tea, and starting getting in shape. Guess what? Cholesterol is normal. And my skin looks better. It’s not rocket science.

What i love are pill commercials, with their cartoony saturated colors. They always feature a person struggling to enjoy an outing with family. Or they have some animated cute organ following them around. They go to a doctor and fein listing then you see them miraculously able to enjoy throwing a frisbee with their kid or petting a dog - perceivably without the ailment - all the while the narrator listing all the side effects like suicidal thoughts and running stool. Man just keep the fucking eczema for God’s sake. Anyway, guess where you see the most pill commercials? During Fox and MSNBC news broadcasts. Lies upon lies upon orchestrated lies.

Anyone who stands up and calls it out is called a “conspiracy theorist” or a “quack”

A mask is futile.

I agree.
But that’s what we get when we don’t have the courage to tear down what the root cause of all this.

Being told to wear a mask is what you get when the powers that be refuse to change what’s been making them billions and billions of dollars. So wear your masks and continue to panic and worry about dying instead of doing the things it will take to live. Because it’s too hard to change your lifestyle of 24 hour masterbation, alcohol intake, news consumption, salty foods and sugar overload. Living a lifestyle that focuses on boosting and maintain a strong immune system is not east nor cheap. Society doesn’t want it to be. Just like driving an electric car. Is it better for the environment? Yes. But is it cheaper and more convenient than gas? Hell no. So why change.

Anyway, I am all for masks, hand-sanitizer at the ready. Keep up the good work. It’s true when they say you are wearing the mask for someone else. And that person is me.

There is no cure for the common cold, and that is transmitted easily thru contact, and the flu vaccine is fairly ineffective (only 45% success rate in 2019). So why stop "protecting" yourself then?

With Covid 19 and the riots my hope is that all you guys stay safe -- all the reports down here is that America is on fire -- is it as bad as it seems or is there some hysterical reporting going on?

i've been protecting my self for years by not breathing in when a stranger walks by. once their gust of wind passes me i take a breath. it's a very effective technique to protect yourself from the flu. haven't been sick once since i started doing it. used to get sick as a dog before i started doing it.

i have to suppress my immune system because of my disease so i catch these things very easily if i don't look out for myself. it's not that hard to do.

Probably since the 80's fast food boom it has been cheaper to eat like shit rather than eating healthy in the United States. Some studies will deny this but whatever. I've been living and shopping alone for decades and work in the retail food environment so i'm sticking with what i see and the general consensus, rather than fringe studies that like to paint unrealistic scenarios of American families, their budgets, and mom's having all day every day to plan and cook healthy meals for the entire family twice a day seven days a week.

I'd like to hear some feedback from some of you living in other Nations on this. Every country has poverty but i'm talking about the bulk middle class.

I'm not gonna get into the WHY because Dieter already hit on that. Unhealthy Americans is good business.

I'd concede that the vaccines for the flu have only a 45% to 60% success rate, especially since there are so many different flu strains and mutations within them.

OTOH, take a look at polio. It used to be a worldwide scourge, and through the power of vaccine we have virtually eliminated polio as a threat.

So will the Covid-19 vaccine be only around 50% effective (like the flu), or will it be nearly 100% effective (like the vaccine against polio)? Or somewhere in the middle? We'll find out soon enough, but assuming the Covid-19 vaccine will be only as effective as the flu vaccine is way premature IMHO.

Do you have a choice? I have to wear one to work in hospitals, and let me tell you; it sucks BALLS doing physical labor with a damn mask on. Super hard on your respiratory system.

I do have a choice - it isn’t mandatory. But I’m in and out of the the jail and I’d rather be safe and uncomfortable - at least for now. How long I can sustain this is a question - I’m apparently a pretty big wuss.

Not sure if this is in response to what you quoted me on, or a previous statement that I had made. In any event...
Polio vaccines have been a work in progress for 70 years, so in 4-5 years if vaccines have proven effective with no side effects and the threat of covid is still prevalent, I'd consider allowing my kids to be vaccinated, and/or getting vaccinated myself.

Its bad in some areas. But yes, the American media does like to sensationalize everything. Without chaos they would be irrelevant.
