There are a lot of good OCs in this league right now killing it that would be intriguing. But the one thing people need to remember with the "hot coordinator" is they have to learn on the job. It requires more patience on our part, and I don't know about you guys but I am about out of patience and Kool-Aid.
TODD HALEY is absolutely killing it. Having failed once as head coach is something I view as a positive, too, coming off his current performance. It means he knows how important stacking the staff is, vice putting buddies on it, and a million other details you can only learn the hard way.
JOSH MCDANIELS same deal. Doing a great job as OC, but also has been exposed to the best organization in football and the best head coach. Also failed once as a head coach, again a big positive for me.
WADE PHILLIPS is the best DC in the league right now. Also failed once. And yes, I know we all want an offensive head coach, at least that seems to be the majority of opinions. But performance is performance and overlooking him based on him being a defensive mind would be a mistake.
Asshole Face if he comes free from New Orleans will be the sacred cow of the offseason. Or to use an
@den-the-coach example the hottest stripper in a room full of Marines on their first furlough. He is a rare find, a hot coordinator that succeeded in his first go-round, so yeah if he's out there he would be top of many lists.
KEN WHISENHUNT is a coach who is often maligned but has a ton of experience, brings strong offensive savvy, and has actually seen a Super Bowl as a head coach. Chargers' offense is already off to a good start with his return to the organization as OC.
So many good choices outside the NFL too...
NICK SABAN is only going to talk to a top destination type team. The Rams are one of them now so he would be in play if Stan is interested in him.
JIM HARBAUGH looks like the next Saban in terms of watch out once he gets dug in there in Michigan. Would he listen to a big money offer, full power, and a strong roster under a patient owner? I think so.
MARK DANTONIO of Michigan St has put together 5 straight seasons of 11+ wins. Defensive minded, I know, but again I will not ignore a great coach if I'm doing a coaching search as a GM or owner.
URBAN MEYER is still settling in at Ohio St. Knock on him is he wins with greater talent than everyone else, but then again when he moved in to Ohio St we suddenly saw their talent on their roster so I think the guy knows what he's doing. Like the others above he has the type of demeanor and presence you want in a head coach in LA.
GARY PATTERSON has probably done more with less than any coach of this current college lineup. The dude can flat-out coach this game and develop talent, what he's done with TCU is very impressive. Defensive background but seems to have a very good grasp of overall team management and offense as well.
JIMBO FISHER is a hell of a coach at Florida State, had a "bad" year at 10-3 last year but is a guy who has a very strong offensive background and did a great job preparing Jameis for the NFL. Dude is legit in my estimation.
DAVID SHAW is a favorite around here and for good reason. Dude has done a great job running the show at Stanford in replacing Harbaugh and deserves a shot just as much as any other collegiate head coach. Brings strong offensive knowledge seasoned by both playing under guys like Walsh and Green, plus serving on NFL team staffs.
