He needs to check his ego at the door, maybe he's learned under Tomlin and right now I'm like a Marine straight out of boot camp, everyone looks good!

no doubt, but IIRC the "rumors" are that that is in fact the case. Seems like he mellowed out a bit with his time in PIT, whether that remains if/when he becomes a HC, who knows.

Someone needs to come up with a consensus list of a few college coaches, Some NFL Offensive coordinators and Prior/Retread head coaches that make logical sense. I'm sure this great ROD forum could come up with a Top 8-10 list of strong candidates.

Back up the Brinks truck to David Shaw's house if we are going after a college coach. If Mike Shanahan is motivated and interested I'd love to see Goff and Gurley in his offense.

Here would be my list and keep in mind Gentlemen I would like to go the college route because the Rams have failed with first time Head Coaches on both sides of the ball in Scott Linehan & Steve Spagnuolo and with a Veteran Head Coach in Fisher, so only one option left and I strongly believe the next Head Coach will have an offensive background for Goff & Gurley.
  1. David Shaw (Stanford)....Offense is pro style no nonsense approach and IMO has won consistently at a very tough university to recruit. Add in the Rams are in Los Angeles and IMO that will perk his interest.
  2. Jimbo Fisher (Florida State)...Replace one Fisher with another and you don't even have to replace the bathroom towels, Fisher is a bright offensive mind that does not get enough recognition IMO and might jump at the chance on a national stage.
  3. Josh McDaniels (New England)...I will keep one NFL assistant in the mix because there have been reports that ESK and McDaniels know each other and Kroenke wanted to follow the Patriot Paradigm, well, he could follow it with one of their Assistants and McDaniels has been very selective and there is a reason, he still the OC in New England, he's looking for the right situation.

With what the Steelers offense will accomplish this year I am sure he will be on everyone's short list.

I honestly don't think that competing for a Championship (or even the Division) was the goal this year. Sounds stupid, I know, but that's just how i feel. When you draft a guy like Goff, and put together a brand new receiving crew in Cooper, Thomas, Spruce, Higbee and Hemingway, and then plug only Higbee in for a limited amount of snaps, then it's clear the objective is to use this season to ease them into action and get ready for 2017. Explains why you give the bulk of the off-season reps to Mannion and Keenum while red-shirting Gurley in camp. Also explains going light and fast so quickly on defense and cutting guys like Ayers and Long in favor of rookies.

This was probably a directive and not so much a Fisher decision too, IMO.

They probably thought they had enough talent to win the games they should while staying competitive in games they shouldn't during this process, but that's clearly not the case now. If my theory is correct, then I expect no changes at QB for the next few weeks, and a continuation of Britt/Austin as the primary receivers as well. Making no personnel changes after a shellacking like that would be otherwise negligent. Say what you want about Fisher, but I don't think he's negligent.

/conspiracy theory

Shaw yes, but Shanahan no, I'd rather take a chance on his son Kyle, however, Shanahan is 64 and Vermeil took over at 60, but IMO, I would rather go in another direction.

I'd keep Wauffle, Fassel and Williams. Keep the GM Snead. Let go of Fisher, Boudreau and the rest of the coaching staff.

IDK, hire some offensive minded head coach from the college ranks and no more recycled NFL coaches.

Stan saw the big ZERO posted on the board from the Rams at the Niner's field and he did not look too happy.

All games from now on are MUST WIN situations as the Rams' coaching staff all the way down to the equipment guy and trainers are put on notice to perform.

I would push the reset button right now and let Goff play, release Quick, trade Greg Robinson, Roger Saffold, Higbee (useless), Ogletree and Barron and get whatever value back in return from these trades.

Must win is right. The only good thing about the game was that no one can dispute the need to push the reset button now. We didn't have to go through several games to get there.

Something has to change. If it isn't the QB, the play calling, or the receivers, it will eventually be the OC or head coach-- and everyone can see it. So what will it be?

IDK. Watching the Rams play is like an exercise in futility. After witnessing the Niners whipping yesterday and the Rams not even putting up a field goal was embarassing.

The bozo fan that ran on the field probably was laughing at the Rams players while he ran and mocked the Rams defense that he had more rushing yards than Todd Gurley.

Fisher should have posted this as bulletin board material for Rams players to be ready for the Seahawks on Sunday.

Are ther any college coaches that beat up on pete and chip before they came to the NFL?

Fisher is going nowhere. He'll find a way to win 7 and save his job. More of that 7-9 bullcrap.
It was theorized last year that Fisher was staying to help navigate the waters of relocation (having done it before).

Question:
How bad does it have to get before Kroenke lets him go? I'm thinking Fisher had to have accrued some loyalty chips for helping with the move.

???

There are a lot of good OCs in this league right now killing it that would be intriguing. But the one thing people need to remember with the "hot coordinator" is they have to learn on the job. It requires more patience on our part, and I don't know about you guys but I am about out of patience and Kool-Aid.

TODD HALEY is absolutely killing it. Having failed once as head coach is something I view as a positive, too, coming off his current performance. It means he knows how important stacking the staff is, vice putting buddies on it, and a million other details you can only learn the hard way.

JOSH MCDANIELS same deal. Doing a great job as OC, but also has been exposed to the best organization in football and the best head coach. Also failed once as a head coach, again a big positive for me.

WADE PHILLIPS is the best DC in the league right now. Also failed once. And yes, I know we all want an offensive head coach, at least that seems to be the majority of opinions. But performance is performance and overlooking him based on him being a defensive mind would be a mistake.

Asshole Face if he comes free from New Orleans will be the sacred cow of the offseason. Or to use an @den-the-coach example the hottest stripper in a room full of Marines on their first furlough. He is a rare find, a hot coordinator that succeeded in his first go-round, so yeah if he's out there he would be top of many lists.

KEN WHISENHUNT is a coach who is often maligned but has a ton of experience, brings strong offensive savvy, and has actually seen a Super Bowl as a head coach. Chargers' offense is already off to a good start with his return to the organization as OC.

So many good choices outside the NFL too...

NICK SABAN is only going to talk to a top destination type team. The Rams are one of them now so he would be in play if Stan is interested in him.

JIM HARBAUGH looks like the next Saban in terms of watch out once he gets dug in there in Michigan. Would he listen to a big money offer, full power, and a strong roster under a patient owner? I think so.

MARK DANTONIO of Michigan St has put together 5 straight seasons of 11+ wins. Defensive minded, I know, but again I will not ignore a great coach if I'm doing a coaching search as a GM or owner.

URBAN MEYER is still settling in at Ohio St. Knock on him is he wins with greater talent than everyone else, but then again when he moved in to Ohio St we suddenly saw their talent on their roster so I think the guy knows what he's doing. Like the others above he has the type of demeanor and presence you want in a head coach in LA.

GARY PATTERSON has probably done more with less than any coach of this current college lineup. The dude can flat-out coach this game and develop talent, what he's done with TCU is very impressive. Defensive background but seems to have a very good grasp of overall team management and offense as well.

JIMBO FISHER is a hell of a coach at Florida State, had a "bad" year at 10-3 last year but is a guy who has a very strong offensive background and did a great job preparing Jameis for the NFL. Dude is legit in my estimation.

DAVID SHAW is a favorite around here and for good reason. Dude has done a great job running the show at Stanford in replacing Harbaugh and deserves a shot just as much as any other collegiate head coach. Brings strong offensive knowledge seasoned by both playing under guys like Walsh and Green, plus serving on NFL team staffs.

Wade Phillips has failed 3 times.

  1. Denver Broncos 93-94
  2. Buffalo Bills 98-00
  3. Dallas Cowboys 07-10
Phillips has also been interim Head Coach for the Atlanta Falcons in 2003 & Houston Texans in 2013, great DC and a career Head Coaching Record of 82-65, but the shipped has sailed on Wade as a Head Coach IMHO and to quote the great Lionel Brockman Richie...You're once, twice. Three times a lady.

There is very bad blood between Williams and SP. Don't see them working together again.

Ehh, we'll see. Spagnuolo appeared to detest Coughlin during our MNF game against the Giants back in 2011. Only Payton and Williams knows what kind of relationship they have.

I do not want:
1. Jon Gruden
2. Bill Cowher
3. Mike Shanahan
4. Tom Coughlin

Gruden wasn't very impressive in Tampa Bay after the Super Bowl win. Cowher is another Jeff Fisher (stuck in the 90s). Shanny has a huge ego and lost control of the locker-room in Washington because of it. Coughlin is just too old at this point.

Let's start fresh. My list would be (in no order):
1. Jim Harbaugh
2. Matt Patricia
3. Todd Haley
4. Jim Bob Cooter (best HC name ever)
5. Greg Roman (if the Bills offense gets back to playing like it did last year)
6. Tom Herman
7. Mark Dantonio

Will he, though? Isn't there some bad blood between those two from Bountygate?

Gregg Williams and Asshole Face hate each other. They'd never work together again.

If we go to a new coach, I wouldn't mind David Shaw if we go the college route... If we go the pro route Asshole Face would probably be my favorite choice... However I get the feeling Fisher doesn't go anywhere.

I'd like to bring David Shaw up to be an OC, but I don't think he'd take the gig.. A year or two as the OC and then moving up to HC would likely increase his odds of success at the next level.
