Head injuries are a real deal, anyone who tries to cause head injuries with malicious intent deserves to be suspended indefinitely. Give him the Vontaze Burfict treatment

He should have charges brought against him, as should anyone else who decides to utilize a weapon to hurt another player.

A hit from the crown of the helmet brought down at full force to a helmetless head has a good chance of a fatality. A punch to a face and helmet-to-helmet plays, while dangerous, don't come close to this.

That fight was not bad! A bunch of swinging and pushing but nothing connected outside of the helmet tap, and I bet anything he wasnt even bruised from that hit.

A fine and a game or so suspension I get, but pressing charges and kicking him out the league is way too far.

Not to brag but I'm tough as nails and I think he should be gone from the league. He used the helmet as a weapon with intent to serious injury. Nothing soft about wanting that behavior gone.

And let's not forget the potential for possible brain damage. Rudolph already has a concussion this year. Garrett's lucky he didn't give Rudolph another concussion or worse; that opens up the potential for lawsuits.

@Memento I think you're being a little over-dramatic. Rudolph survived. I doubt a guy like Rudolph is gonna file charges let alone want a colleague kicked out of the league forever. I mean I have seen worse at a hockey game - and so have you Blues fan!

As far as punishment:
The only thing I have seen that comes close is the Albert Haynesworth debacle. It should be equal to that punishment and but no more.
Kicking him out of the league is just not justified.

Anyone defending Garrett's actions has issues. If he would have punched or kicked Rudolph, so what? Body slam him? So what? Take off his helmet and hit him with it? That is the actions of a psychopath with uncontrollable rage.

IMO, he should be suspended indefinitely until he can be psychoanalyzed and appropriate action taken.

Rudolph survived without brain damage because he was hit by the open end instead of the crown. In hockey, I have not seen someone rip off a player's helmet and hit him with it. This has no place in any sport or in life in general.

I will chime in and state that although I'm definitely NOT defending Garrett's actions, I do have issues.

That aside, this whole disturbing episode has me pondering why we get so riled up when we see something like this, but nobody is asking for pitchers throwing a hardball 100 MPH at a dude's face/dome to be escorted off the field in handcuffs.

If criminal action is even considered in this case, I say you have to consider many others as well.

And yes, Garrett should be suspended rest of the year minimum.

Garrett was not. The Marichal/Roseboro incident is more comparable action for a pitcher.

In other words - MG takes this wild swing with the helmet and Rudolph isn't hurt. - Punishment A.

MG takes the same wild swing with the helmet and Rudolph is concussed. - Punishment B.

Same wild swing and Rudolph never plays again. - Punishment C?

Should the consequences of an action be the focus in a punishment or should it be the action?


In law - both matter - but its generally the consequences. A DWI gets one punishment. Kill someone driving drunk and its something quite different. In both cases, the defendant is just as dangerous - just as reckless, just as blameworthy - the only difference is the result.

The crazy part of this is what MG did. Skirmishes happen in football games all the time - ripping off a helmet and hitting a guy in the head with is is what makes this news. Right?
