@jrry32 Didn't Hav look bad when Kromer attempted this in year 1 as our OL coach (thinking out loud here). In my perfect world, Hav comes back to reclaim the starting RT gig, and Evans takes over the LOG spot. Evans feet to me screams LG.

Whit 'Boom Brewer (Put me in the hopeful camp 'Boom can be our LT moving fwd soon).
Evans Corbett
Rookie Shelton
Edwards Rookie
Hav Evans

(Assunming 'Boom starts on PUP, we roll w/ 10)

I think Boom can be, FWIW. They tried cross-training Hav at RG and Brown at RT. It didn't work out. I don't recall if it was because Hav was a bad RG or Jamon Brown was a bad RT. I expect Brown wasn't a good RT. But Hav's skill-set fits better at RT imo. You also forgot Blythe in your OL breakdown. That's why I only see us drafting one OL. I doubt we roll with 10. I think we'll draft one rookie and have Brewer or Shelton in the final spot until Noteboom returns from the PUP list. Wouldn't be surprised if we trade Brian Allen before the season.

I prefer top center/OL and top WR to be our 2nd rounders.

We also need to add at RB... With need vs value, it feels like that compliment to Henderson can be found with “cheaper draft capital”... later in the draft. Or at least I hope.

LB is another place we can maybe find a guy later? Div II or position switch type.

I say all this, but it really depends how the draft falls. Lol.

If you wait too long on RB guys like Dobbins,Akers and Edwards Helaire will be gone. Not saying you can't find a really good back later in the draft but odds are mot RB's drafted in later rounds aren't going to be much more talented then Brown or other guys we already have.

So is there any chance Allen can still be the guy or was he that awful in his starts last year? I admit I don't pay as much attention to the O-line(especially the interior) as I should when I watch games.

What about B. Allen? I know he didn’t play well last year, but the jump from college to nfl at center is pretty tough. He was more than solid at MSU and now has a year of being a pro under his belt. His name is hardly mentioned around here.

I’m not convinced we need a WR as I expect us to retain Reynolds and Kupp unless a stud falls in our laps and Snead pulls the trigger. We may take a flier out on a RB but I don’t see the priority there either. We seem to be good at DT and will only be looking to upgrade depth. Why did you claim a need at safety unless you’re talking about depth again? Do you think we are letting JJIII walk? Hill is our #2 corner and he played very well at that spot. I’d say NRC’s replacement may be Long but that’s really the target. And with both Higs and Everett in tow, how is TE a hole?
To me, center is priority 1 with other OL upgrades right behind. We are also running all JAGS in the LB corps and that’s a recipe for disaster. Whomever they deem impact players at OL and LB will have my full support.

My 2 cents:unsure:......... Brian Allen had a much to-do off season list. He had some big breakdowns in his basic centering mechanics & needs to do a complete rebuild job on several main ones.

First lets hope that he has rehabbed his MCL tear & has gotten stronger as of the result of it. BA is a very smart guy & has been successful until last season. Bottom line he was just too green :woozy:& Kromer should have-known that:censored:. BA had a serious big load placed on his mantle in 2019. I made some comments on my take last Thursday. (Click Below).
Brian Allen in college started more games @ OG than he did @ center. 21 starts @ OG & 13 @ OC. Most of his starts were @ left OG.

The jury is still out on Brian Allen due to major continued problems mostly in three areas. #1- BA really struggles with his Snap to step quickness. #2-DC's found out that BA's block can be easily beaten when sending NT/DT's racing into neutral zone off BA's snap....he just can not recover from it due to lack of length. #3- Greatly improve with the overall use of his hands. If BA can not improve the first two he will be moved away from the OC post to just being a reserve for both OG posts in 2020 season. In BA's last 3 yrs @ college he has two seasons as starting OG & 1 @ starting center.

BPA. And I wish McSnead would stop all the trading up and down. I really don't understand when he does both in the same draft. I realize he's "getting his guy", but how has that worked out over the past coupe of years?

Yeah, Brian Allen needs work. Unless the right guy falls to them, any center the Rams draft will need work. His rookie season, with limited snaps, he looked solid or better. It was with very crappy guard play on both sides of him that he looked so poor. The Rams may figure he will bounce back - or they may be desperate enough to put OC as a top priority. They aren't saying, of course. But I don't think it's certain that they feel they HAVE to draft an OC to replace him for 2020

@jrry32 has been communicating about three centers that could be available later and here are my feelings about the three if the Rams end up with either.

  1. Tyler Biadasz (Wisconsin)....I watched quite a few of Big Ten games and IMO, Biadasz would have gone higher last year because of injury, but would be an excellent addition because of size has excellent hip flexibility and the Badgers do an excellent job coaching up their Offensive Linemen. I'm sure Edwards & Havenstein will talk him up too, however, the Dallas Cowboys will be lurking to replace one Badger with another.
  2. Matt Hennessy (Temple)....Love this kid, he has great size at 6'4 307 and IMO, the best cerebral center in the draft and I like smart players....Hennessy is excellent at pulling on screens and I believe McVay is going to calling plenty of screens to Henderson moving forward, plus Hennessy has great balance and is never out of position and Hennessy is moving up to number two on my board right behind Cesar Ruiz.
  3. Nick Harris (Washington).... @jrry32 likes him better then I do because of scheme as the Huskies run a similar zone scheme to the Rams, however, even though the Rams run that scheme I like them bigger at Center. Harris is 6'1 302 which is much like Blythe & Allen and when I watched Harris I felt he got pushed back quite a bit at the point of attack, but Harris excels with his line calls plus body control to adjust and land on second-level targets.

Blythe didn't play much at center until Allen went down. Sure seemed to me Blythe was much better than Allen there. Blythe gets one more year at the position. I gotta think someone in house will be their future center after that. Unless he really improves and they extend him again.

Boy, I hope we can upgrade over Blythe. Furthermore, I would be really concerned about what an injury to Blythe would mean if we only had our in-house candidates (i.e. hoping for improvement from Allen) to fall back on.

Sullivan was not good during the end of our super bowl season.

We replaced him with Allen who was worse.

We replaced him with Blythe who was better than both at Center.

If there's an OL there they like, that's fine - but as far as needs go, OL is below RB, ILB, OLB, WR and S for me.

Center is the only OL position i'd like to see addressed in the top half of our draft. I believe it was a scheme problem more than a personnel problem last year. I think the bodies are already here to run a successful offense. Having said that, i do think we need more talent at Center.

I think the jury is still out on B.Allen. Defenses knew what was coming and he got blown up.
