A starter? Unlikely unless he's learned how to read the whole field while not playing. But he could still be a backup. If he wanted to be. And if he hadn't burned bridges in Baltimore years ago, he'd be a great fit for what I expect their offense to be.

Whats done is done. Maybe he can physically but those bridges have already been burned. He can play in the Canadian league if he really wants to still play football..

I think Kaepernick's "success" was really Harbaugh's offense hiding his weaknesses. He was one of those guys is you couldn't get to the QB regularly, then he could burn you w/ his feet. But his QB duties, he failed. He couldn't get the ball out regularly to his playmakers. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Harbaugh saw defenses catching up with his "offense" and realized a college program had a better chance to be productive and bailed.

Doubt it, being out of play for as long as he's been will hamper even the best of players.

Kapernick is nothing more than a backup at this point. Not worth the distraction that will come with him. No one wants a marginal player that will disrupt the operation.

Trust me, if someone though he could come in a turn the franchise around he would be playing. Even if owners are racist, which I doubt, the color of green takes precedent over any prejudices they might have.

I'm not sure if he even wants to play. He's making a nice living off of the cause he's fighting for.

In the poll, shouldn't there be a option for;
"He's worth a shot at a backup spot" or "Someone should at least give him a chance in camp".

I think the NFL is basically blackballing him for his politics which kind of makes the NFL look intolerant.

Granted he'd be a distraction for a short period of time but I think the big hullabaloo is over.
Granted, he basically did this to himself for the most part but it's not a real good look for the NFL either.

If being uninterested in a bad QB is "blackballing" him then I think there's a huge list of dudes that have been blackballed by the league.

Can he play? No doubt.

Would he be successful as a starter? I don't think so, but if Mike Glennon and Nathan Peterman are vying for a backup role, there's no way anyone can say that Kaep has no spot in the league.

Amazing coincidence!
Posters that don't think Colin Kaepernick can play also have a problem with players that kneel.

Who would have thunk it?

Plenty of teams have backup quarterbacks the don't have the natural athletic ability of Kaepernick.

But if you don't like the guy because he started the kneeling controversy it's really easy to convince yourself that he can't play worth a flip.

Strangely convenient but silly.

I don’t see it this way. His kneeling may have gotten him blackballed. Signing him after that would create an unwanted distraction, yes. But could he actually play QB at a high level this season? I don’t think so because outside of running the read option every play, when defenses hadn’t figured out how to defend against it, he never played well enough to be a starter. You are not reading all of the posts for what they are worth. I don’t see a bunch of people complaining about his politics.

to me always a run first QB that could throw a little
train

Basically seems to me there are limited situational opportunities in the NFL for qbs who are not primarily skilled as downfield passers. Not many teams run an offense where Kap would be a good fit.

For another team to take a chance on a running qb they would have to be willing to change their offense to fit him. Imo not many teams are willing to change what they do for a limited range backup or starter, whether Kap or RG3 or anyone else.
