Physically/athletically he can probably still play but it ends there. Being able to play and being able to play well are two different things. He was a flash in the pan that was extinguished when teams figured the offensive scheme an his myriad of weaknesses which he was no able to overcome. I do not think he has the mentality or all of the requisite QB skills needed to excel in the NFL. Simply put there are equal or better options still on the market without the added baggage.

I admit that because he has the 49er-taint that I dislike Kapernick but I also objectively thought he sucked as a QB well before his politics became front an center (admittedly I think his politicization of the sport I love really sucks too).

I would actually love to see Kaperdick on the Cardinal's, Seahawk's or 49er's squads and have him see appreciable playing time against our Rams. If Kap is playing then you know a team is in dire straits to have him in there and they will be fodder for our Rams to pad their record. There would also be the added bonus of seeing Kap slapped around by Donald, Fowler and the rest of the Rams defense.

Needless to say I want him nowhere near the Rams roster.

Kap showed he couldn't adapt to being a pocket passer. He simply can't read defenses. His game is all off schedule. Sometimes I think he started all this to distract from how bad of a QB he was.

Stop and think about this. The Seahawks offered to work him out and he declined. That IMO is all you need to know. His crap about playing now is because he gave away all his money and he wants another payday. Kap is a fraud and even his mother knows it and she said as much.

People want to make this out to be more than it is (political), but at the end of the day, the more talent you have, the more you can pull.

I saw krapernick play in person his last 2 years as a starter. He SUCKED. He ended up getting benched for gabbert. It was only when the 9ers were unsuccessfully trying to dump him the following season, did he develop a social conscience. he has become just too much baggage for a guy who hadn't played any decent ball in a long time, including his last 3 years with the 9ers. The attention he would bring just isn't worth it.

He knew the 9ers were trying to deal him. He didn't want to be there and they didn't want him there. KNBR talked about the situation incessantly during camp. Picking up Kap is like picking up Tebow. He's good enough to be a back up on any team, but he has an irrational fanbase manufacturing an unneeded QB controversy.

I don't think that's true at all. Kaepernick doesn't have an irrational fanbase, and Tebow had/has a HUGE amount of religious nutjobs that are fans of his simply because of that. If he said he didn't believe in god he wouldn't have any fans outside of his family.

Tebow has fans because he is very religious. That's why people like him for the most part.

And Tebow is a way worse QB than Kaepernick. Way worse. It isn't even close.

Yeah but nobody has this debate about Manziel or Tebow. The reason they do for Colin is because they support Kaeps politics.

Did it ever cross your mind that Manziel and Tebow are completely horrible at playing QB in the NFL? Among the worst in recent memory! It has nothing to do with what you claim.

Put up a poll about who posters would like to have as the starter OR backup for the Rams out of those three and the only people that would pick Manziel or Tebow would do so because of Kaepernick's "politics" or Tebows religious fervor. Nobody would pick Manziel on his merits. And Tebow is also in that space.

Not bad, or below average or needs work. Those two are HORRIBLE as in sucked out loud at QB.

I'm from CLE, I know plenty of Browns fans. Not a single one I know was on board with that pick.

And the idiot GM traded to move up to get him.

How would you feel if the Rams drafted Tebow and he busted out, then drafted Manziel a few years later and he busted out? We would all be calling for that GM to be thrown out of his office and into the ocean.

By the way. I think Tebow is a great person. In fact..........he is a fantastically charitable human and I know someone (very, very close to me) that has benefited from his charity work. I put him on par with Kaepernick when it comes to making a difference and creating positive change here in the USA.

Manziel on the other hand is simply a piece of shit. A complete turd of a human being.

Notice that I said it was "like picking up Tebow" not that Kap and Tebow have equivalent skill sets. Kap was a much better QB at his peak and presumably would still be now (although this skills degraded). A better question would be whether you would rather sign RG3 or Kap as your back up. Those are comparable diminished skill set QBs. Only one of them has an irrational fanbase that thinks the man is holding him down.

Did it ever cross your mind that Squidward had a lights out defense and running a basic offense that wouldn't do anything near what it did back in 13 and 14?
Let's look at Colin's attributes:
- Noodle arm
-bad decision making skills
-A run first, throw second QB ( know all to well how those guys end up)
- egotistical
- me first player

The best part of his game is running the ball. Plus he's been out the league 3 years.

Granted he is better statistically better than Manziel and Tebow but not by much ala 13 QBR points. That says a lot considering the disparity of teams the 3 played on.

Nice try but the SJW inspired arguments get annoying after time.

He lacked touch if I recall but yeah.... he could throw the ball through a brick wall. Or through, over, under, his receivers hands.... whichever.

All true, he could throw with a lot of velocity.

However the trouble with most QB's like that is they feel like they can "get it in there" and that leads to defended passes and INT's because they throw into tight coverage. I'm not saying Kaepernick had that issue because he didn't really throw a lot of INT's but many guys get a little too confident about their arm and make throws they shouldn't for their whole career.

Favre was a good example.

Who said he cannot play at all? Maybe I missed that. Do you know what his demands are for a contract? Did you watch his private work out? Did you attend the interview with the Ravens?

You DEFINITELY did miss something as some posters are in effect saying that he cannot play at all.
They say that he has bad mechanics, (some QBs have bad mechanics) and that he's only a system quarterback, (some quarterbacks are system quarterbacks) and then they post a gif of him throwing an interception as if that's some kind of proof of something.

It is just natural for some posters who don't like his politics to try to make out like he can't play AT ALL when that's never been proven.

Just the opposite as he has won games and even beaten the Rams a few times.

I don't know how I can put it any more succinctly but please do expand and go off on tangents which I see posters tend to do when I've actually just had two main points;

1) Some people are pretending like he can't play because they don't like his politics.

2) He certainly has enough talent to be a backup, minimum.

Annnnd....

FINI!

None of this says that people are saying he can't play "at all". Most are saying - as did I - that it is possible that he has the talent and current ability to be a back-up. But just because he has the talent to - as you say - "be a backup, minimum", it does NOT mean people are saying he is not good enough solely due to some political agenda determined by YOU.

If talent was all that mattered, there would be virtually no such thing as a bust in the NFL.

The NFL has welcomed back wife beaters, child beaters, animal abusers, man slaughterers, alleged killers, druggies, and yes.... other kneelers. Oh but CK is being held out for no other reason than his politics.

Whatever dude. Believe what you want but put your fucking pitch fork away.

The problem is that he's not accurate with his so called 'cannon' of an arm. Guy has a 59.8 completion %. That being in a Harbaugh offense is a pretty bad sign. Jared Goff in 2 seasons after his rookie season raised his completion % to 62% from 54%. All Kaep ever did was through it up and hope the receiver adjusted to it as opposed to throwing to a spot on the field. Plenty of evidence to support the noodle arm theory short range wise from his horrible mechanics.

I wills say this much, I love watching running QB's They are entertaining as all hell but I wouldn't want one as my QB for these reasons.

No sale here.

It's OK to dislike him and all but that's along the lines of saying Gurley has weak lower body strength.

Kaepernick wasn't noodle armed on short throws. In fact he threw too hot on screens a lot of the time because his touch was not so great.

If you look at CK's six year career stats he is a below average starter but not a scrub by any imagination. In fact his last season when he go benched was his second best. 91 QB rating 59 percent completion 16 td to 4 int. That is better than Matt Stafford did in 2018. He did not suck. 49ers went to SB with him and he nearly brought them back to a victory in that game.

What would you do if the Rams decided to give Kapernick a workout?

I'd be glad he was on the bench and not starting. I'd hate the media distraction though. I absolutely think the Rams suddenly got desperate for a backup and decided it was Goff or bust.

If he was any good, he'd be playing. Period.
josh gordon just got reinstated for crying out loud. The chiefs RB who was released after video showed his scuffle with a female was picked up almost immediately. zeke was suspended for a similar altercation and did anybody doubt that he would be playing?

It makes you wonder if Kaepernick's kneeling was selfishly driven. Maybe he believed ( or had it pumped into his head by friends of color) that the only reason he wasn't starting was because he was a black QB.
