I have zero problems with Skow, overall.. and actually like him to be the guy rotating in when Rob & Kupp go out. He’s physical as hell.
I concur with Skowronek being physical, he's almost like an extra TE, however, besides the speed issue with Big Ben, his hands did him a disservice last year along with his route trees that seem to come up short from time to time.

Atwell has the speed to take the top off the defense & Harris might offer the best of both worlds so that's how I see it playing out creating Jefferson in the aggregate with the triumvirate of Skowronek, Atwell & Harris.

I feel like speed was more a concern in previous years when it was Kupp & Woody. Teams would double Kupp and shut the pass game down. Rams made that move from Woody for that reason. Good as he was the Rams had a lot of room to improve there and they did with Odell and now Robinson. Both Kupp & Robinson can get open in a phone booth, they don't need a stretched field and more space.

Whoever plays WR3 for us this year is going to benefit from those two. They'll be an afterthought to the defense by necessity. Skow if he ends up with most of the snaps while Van is out will almost surely benefit too.

That was my feeling on the Harris choice. Also.. I think he’s probably a better contested ball option than Skow.

That all being said… Skow strikes me as a competitor and the kind of guy who’s going to take advantage of being around Kupp & Robinson. I’m open to the possibility he just takes the job if Van is down any length of time.

Klein just did a nice write up on Skow.

One thing I do believe is that his speed is underrated.
He’s not slow at all. He’s just not a burner.

Yeah some guys just get open somehow. Skow's one of those guys I think. I just really appreciate his game when I go through the film and he's kicking ass on teams, then laying blocks as a lead blocker in the run play, then challenging safeties deep. He is actually a really, really nice combination of skills in a player.

I would have Skow in there on first down and 2nd & 3rd and short plays and use Tutu on 2nd & 3rd and long plays.

Let Tutu use his speed to free up Cooper and Robinson.

I could also see using Tutu on jet sweeps/fakes on occasional first downs and put Skow in there on 2nd & 3rd long plays from time to time to not let teams get an idea what we are going to run.

And, hopefully, he's getting some tips on how to shed that first tackler from Kupp. He's got the strength, for sure.. Kupp has footwork and balance that's just absolutely incredible. Work some of that in to a strong, 225 WR? He should break off some explosives just on that quality.

Lastly Skow gets a lot of flak from fans. And some of it is warranted, but I think fans are forgetting he could improve too. He's a nice big target who brings toughness and smarts to the field and those things are not only valuable to a WR3 but appropriate for that role. Whoever wins this role I hope they make the best of it.

I know Ben Skowronek dropped a few passes-- but at Notre Dame, he had soft and dependable hands. Skowronek has a big frame and plays with good strength -- His catch radius is quite large-- and he’s capable of plucking the ball off the helmet of a defender or extending back across his frame to haul in errant passes.

The biggest problem with rotating the 3rd guy, imo, is how much your groupings are a “tell” on what you’re running.
Gotta think it’s more likely a pass play if Tutu is in over Skow, for example.
That makes Harris very interesting to me. He’s got the speed to help open shit up for Kupp & ARob.. but is big enough to be a factor blocking.
The silver lining might be they really focus on improving the run game so they are not relying so much on the passing game. Maybe by yrs end that makes them a much better team.

I like Skow a lot.
My thing with him is they don’t have the speed on field to open stuff up.

My comp for blocking for Harris is Jefferson, not Skow. Now, I just have no idea how much of a functional route tree Harris has at this point.

I have zero problems with Skow, overall.. and actually like him to be the guy rotating in when Rob & Kupp go out. He’s physical as hell.
Don’t quote me but reading you write about Harris’ route tree I think I remember reading in his scouting report his he surprisingly has wide open route tree for being such a short time in football. I’ll have to go and look to confirm.
