I think there's one flaw there though. They'd already interviewed 2 minorities before Flores.

Rooney rule requires an in person interview with someone outside your franchise. Flores was the first in person interview by the Giants of a minority.

Which was satisfied when they interviewed Leslie Frazier in person.

What is also sad is that with Poles being hired in Chicago, and Adofo-Mensah in Minnesota, that is being overlooked instead of being a show of progress. Shoen wanted his guy from Buffalo with him, but apparently Poles didnt want anyone from KC and Minnesota looks to be going for Harbaugh

And then you have idiots like Silver tweeting this.

So if somebody doesn't hire a minority candidate they'll be watched?

At some point - it really is a waste of time. Sure, you want to learn how to interview - but your time is also valuable.

You would be perfectly fine wasting a day or two of your time interviewing for a job that had already been de facto given to someone else? I’d be pissed.

Can you imagine if an NFL player spent a day in early free agency visiting with or maybe even working out for a team who had no intention of making him an offer?
OK, you be pissed, and turn it down because of the wasted time, I will do the interview and be happy for the experience. That experience is GOLD. Are you really saying you wouldn't take an interview in that scenario? Man, I don't understand that mentality at all. Do you think head coaching interviews are available whenever you need one? They are rare. You make the time, even if you don't want or can't get the job. I am amazed that people look at interviews that way. You might not understand how big of a gift an interview for a job you don't want is, until you blow an interview for a job you do want.

I see what you are saying - but if it’s not a real interview, is it actually worthwhile experience? Are you gaining real skills with a pro forma - running thru the motions - setting? Might it even lead you astray? You could crush the interview, do everything right - not get the job and then feel like you should do it differently next time.

I think it depends on your individual situation - but where I am - no I don’t feel like the opportunity to sit for a bullshit interview is much of a gift.

Part of the argument is that these sham interviews are done half-assed.

Like practicing for the Super Bowl against a college team.

Just pulled a few Miami articles on him. Sounds like a real dumpster fire was going on down there. He basically stopped communicating with his coaching staff around Thanksgiving time. He may be a good coach but doesn’t sound like he gets along with others.

And if that shit is being published in newspapers and is public knowledge what owner would want to deal with that crap.
And who is leaking all that stuff to the media? Could it be the GM and owner who asked him to do unethical shit and then had the relationship deteriorate? The Dolphins fired the guy despite his team overachieving on the field. Of course they're going to leak shit to justify the decision.

According to Tas's article, that happened after they interviewed Flores.
Yes the 2nd interview in person was after Flores interview. So people may not like the optics of his interview but they did satisfy the Rooney rule, which I'm torn about because of situations like this, without interviewing him.

But for that to be true, your assumption going into the interview is that it is a sham. Why would that be the assumption? Maybe it did happen in the Denver interview, I don't know, but my assumption wouldn't be that the next one is going to be. But to each his own. All I know is the Rams are in the SuperBowl!!!

If I didn’t know it was a sham, and I wanted the job, of course I would interview. If I found out later that it was sham, I would be pissed and feel like their sham wasted my time.

Not for nothing - but apparently Flores interviewed with the Saints today. I’ll bet that was awkward.

"Well, I've enjoyed speaking with you today. Any plans for later, Brian?"
"Yes, I actually plan to file a lawsuit and accuse the NFL of systemic racial discrimination. Have a blessed day."
;)

And you have to imagine the Saints are going to promote Dennis Allen. Well deserved - Allen is a stud - but we may be looking at a lot of vacancies getting filled by white guys ….. again.

Don’t jump down my throat. Just relaying what I read Ross and the GM could very well be scumbags but when you rip through a bunch of coordinators and basically don’t talk to you coaching staff for a couple of months I’d say that dude needs to look in the mirror too.

Based on everything I’ve read it sounds like it was one big clusterfuck that they all had a hand in.

Allens a good DC we know that but he's a massively failed head coach. I don't get the interest in him or Quinn again as a coach.
