Getting a 2nd round pick for Cooks, who was addle-brained as fuck after yet another concussion this year, was brilliant. I feel for Texans fans those poor MFers.

It's gonna suck to watch both produce elsewhere, but without this trade they probably would have had to eat money next year when they use the out in Cooks' contract (assuming here). So getting that much for him now is an excellent move by the Rams.

The Rams will attempt to compete in 2020 while spending approximately $45M of the $198M cap on players no longer on their team.
That's 23% of the Rams 2020 cap being spent on non-Rams.

This is the part that scares me. Can we realistically be competitive this year?

And we still need to sign Ramsey and Kupp.

I cant fathom this.
Overpaid to get him, over pay him in a new contract then trade him for pennies on dollar
So in the last 3 years, the Rams traded 3 first round picks and a 2nd, and all they have to show for it currently is a 2nd round pick, and Ramsey who played just 9 games last year and is looking for break the bank money.
"Yikes"

About fucking time we deal Cooks! Called it months ago and after that Hopkins deal I seen this as a possibility due to need and talent in regards to the Texans. Obviously we were never getting a 1st for Cooks but we robbed the shit out of them even that we have to eat that dead cap money.

Snead/Demoff realizing these deals they signed were a bad thing and slowly fixing their mistakes and reaping the consequences.

Now we have enough decent ammo to actually do something this draft thank goodness!

I liked Cooks and wish him the very best!

So if this trade allows you to split the 21 million over 2 years and if you had kept him his cap hit this year I would assume his cap number would have been higher than 10.5 million, doesn't that mean this trade availed us some cap space for this season?

I mean got it, Cooks contract was bad, we shouldn't have extended him. Got it. But if the trade allows us to split the money doesn't that splitting give you cap relief?

cooks was worth every cent in 2018.

can't foretell injuries.

.
Damn straight.
1,200 yards and was a beast in the playoffs. They dont beat the Saints without him. And for all the crap he gets, he was the best offensive player on the field in the SB with 120 yards and 8 catches

We still haven't signed Ramsey or Kupp.

why does it scare you? it's only accounting.

it should make you happy because the rams will have so much more money to spend next season and in the future.

.

That sucks. More draft picks is always good but how does this affect the cap?

Excellent I Would think!!! I like Cooks but Copper Kupp needs to be resigned at the end of the season.
Lol- Clay & Gurley need to get paid.

Doesn’t this help The Rams signing of there new OLB from Da Bears ?

I wonder if they will restructure Goff ?

is there a certain date they have to have that done by ?

Like resigning Copper Kupp & maybe Reynolds. Plus The Rams have that 3rd pick for a WR in future.

Having two round 2 picks in this particular draft is going to be a lot of fun. Yeah we're going to miss Brandin, however there's a chance we would have missed him some next season anyway with that concussion history, and there was every reason to think JRey would get a chance to show what he could do at that X spot. This move creates opportunity for JRey who should be ready to do his thing in a contract season AND we have an additional pick in a fantastic WR draft.

Round 2: No. 52 overall
Round 2: No. 57 overall (thanks Bob!)
Round 3: No. 84 overall
Round 3: No. 104 overall (compensatory)
Round 4: No. 126 overall
Round 6: No. 199 overall
Round 7: No. 234 overall

With that extra capital comes options. And a much more fun draft night. (y)

No that's not how it works. We've taken it in the shorts this offseason dumping players.
