At what cost? 12m? I would rather Watkins at 16m. I don’t hate the player, just the trade. Cooks is not worth a 1st when he is only signed for next year. That in itself devalues him to a 2nd at best. Personally after last year I think he is worth a 4th. This is a bad trade for us, Brandin Cooks is not a 1st round value.
This smells of a panic move.
Panic move?
No.
A move to try and win a title NOW?
Yes.
These are 2-3 year windows now in the NFL.

So on draft day (when team needs will be defined on who they don't get), we will trade Austin for that 6th round pick we gave up here... yes??

Is Austin's contract palpable now for another team to trade for him??

You don't think that Goff and McVay are licking their chops at this very moment?

-Cooks, 1,000 yards (3 seasons in a row!)

-Woods 781 yards (would of had a 1,000 if not injured, easily!)

-Kupp 869 yards (Rookie!)

-Gurley 788 yards (PLUS 1,305 RUSHING!)

uhhhh yeah, this is a good move.

Says who on 3 year window? That’s your perception not fact. We have created this silly window but now we have no draft picks. All I’m saying is we can sustain this. We have young guys outside. Like the player, hate the trade that is all

At least this puts the OBJ crap to rest.

However, this better not be another rental. I'm getting more and more worried about our long term future. I'd be ok waiting for a ring if it meant great football for a decade or more. Three years isn't enough for me. Man I'm greedy :sneaky:

After the Suh deal it seemed pretty clear to me the Rams next move was adding an offensive weapon. Would have loved OBJ, but unlikely we got him at Cooks price point. Outside of Saquon Barkley, who the Rams weren't drafting anyway, I dont think there is a better offensive weapon in the draft. Hell the Rams weren't getting a player better than cooks at 23 either.

Perfect fit in terms of role. Gives McVay D-Jax like he had in Washington, but bigger younger and quicker. Its funny because of WR group looks awfully similar to what he had in Washington in terms of body types but bigger younger quicker. Cooks' is repped by the same agency as Goff and threw with Goff in the past in addition to having a whole offseason ensures he wont have some the chemistry issues Goff had with Sammy. IMO only thing you can complain about is his contract and the Rams have the cap flexibility to extend him without a massive OBJ like commitment.

Don’t get what’s not to love. Dude is young, extremely fast, and been incredibly productive in college and every year in the nfl. And all it cost was essentially a lottery ticket that is disguised as a 1st rd pick.

Worst case he doesn’t resign and we get one year of him, a comp 3rd, a 4th, and hopefully some playoff success for a 1st? Gimme that any day. Even though I expect a long term deal to be in the works already anyways

This sums up how I feel. Way too rich of a trade for a player in the final year of their contract. If we got him with years remaining on his rookie contract, then I'd have been stoked. But seriously, we're gonna have to pay big for this guy after this year. This is Sammy W all over again

Yeah value wise, it's hard to like this trade. And the way the Rams spread the ball around is a WR who may not get a 1,000 yards in this system worth a 1st rounder? Tough call.
But with Cooks the receivers and RB's all Get Better.

50% of 1st round picks don't work out anyhow so in Snead and McVay I trust.

Exactly! We just picked up a young, productive, superstar wide receiver. We lost out on the "possibility" of getting a good linebacker. Which would you rather have? A bird in the hand is worth two in the draft!

2018 Rams updated draft picks:
3rd- 87
4th- 111,135,136
6th- 183,194,195,196

Smells a lot to me like some OLB, ILB, OT depth, and roster fill in's tbh.

No worries we still got a 3rd round pick. We got Kupp and Johnson with 3rd rounders last year who both became impact players. I got faith we can land a damn good player in the 3rd and 4th. Cooks is better right now then any WR we could have drafted his year. Rams aint playin, they are going for a championship. What a time to be a Rams fan!

The coaches and scouts know what is available in the draft. I am sure the have an idea of what they can get.

The coaches know who is on the roster at ilb and OLB. I am sure they have a plan.

This is the best coaching staff that the Rams have ever had in my opinion. I like Wade better than any GSOT defensive coordinator. For the first time in years, I completely trust this team.

If McVay wanted Cooks, and Snead has negotiated a deal for a month to get him, then I am confident in this move.

If there was a redraft of the 2014 class today, Cooks would go in the top 15 (and way before Watkins). If he was on the free market he'd command about $16m/yr. Assuming Cooks gets the tag in 2019 (seems like it will be him or Suh) then we'll get two years of a legit #1 WR for about $24mil total.

I guess this means Mannion will be starting over Goff this season.

Seriously though, that was a hell of a combination when they played together at OSU.
