Would you have given up a second round pick for a third round pick plus Sammy? Because that’s basically what happened in that trade.

I would have preferred they resigned Watkins and lost the comp pick and retained their first instead of dealing for Cooks.

I'd like to see them put pen on paper and actually resign some of their pending FAs. Next spring they have 3 free agent lineman (the other two being old as dirt) plus Joyner, Donald and Cooks who will require massive money to resign.

Yes, they have a better shot at winning a Bowl, but I do not want a Bowl or bust Dallas Cowboys team that flames out after a year or two. Sustainability is important, so are value picks in the draft. Scouting also matters. Hopefully they win a bowl and lock these guys up, but seems like someone has to go.

As I said, they better find a couple future starters in rounds 3 and 4.

Thank you. I’m actually amazed how many don’t like this. He’s Tavon in speed but an actual 1000 yard receiver. You can’t guarantee the 23rd pick will be that good.
He replaced Sammy and more. Fact!

Difference being that the #23 pick is a very affordable 5 year player where Cooks is only guaranteed for 2018.

Because with 100M in cap space if we spend that on another FA next year for similar dollars we lose that comp pick.

That’s my understanding, but I could have that mixed up
The rule is when a team is due for a compensatory pick from the previous year, what that team does the following year does not affect your compensatory value.

Yeah, he replaced Sammy and more! FACT!

I am sad about our 1st and second being gone but honestly I really do feel our FO and coaching staff wasn't comfortable signing Sammy for a huge contract like he got. He had several issues that were apparent. Cooks doesn't strike me as the same guy that has those issues.

Dude having Tavon and him on the same team with our other weapons is going to be retarded! Now if we can get our young TE's to be half ass good this coming year (which I think the odds look good for that) we are going to be dangerous as F!

Wade has a history of getting great play out of his LB core. If our big worry now is LB's, I think we're gonna be ok when it shakes out.

Fans are concerned about the long term view, not just next year. I doubt anyone would argue that Cooks won't be more productive than the 23.

I am guessing Barwin could be back now since it would be risky counting on a 3rd round OLB to start or counting on Longacre coming off a back injury.

Says who on 3 year window? That’s your perception not fact. We have created this silly window but now we have no draft picks. All I’m saying is we can sustain this. We have young guys outside. Like the player, hate the trade that is all
I meant typically in terms of a window.
And being sustainable is just your opinion.
So this back and forth accomplished nothing.
I prefer Cooks over Watkins.
PS....I agree with it being sustainable as a longer period of time.

I am rethinking this and the cost is too high. We traded a 2nd round pick for Watson who was a one year rental. That price seems reasonable for Cooks as well.

I can say with little doubt he will be given the franchise tag next season.

I get it, but I for one am glad this regime is going for it. We sucked for far too long.

And you would be wrong. Oh I value Brandin over the 23rd pick, but not all agree.

I like the player but he came at a high cost. Tough situation, though, because the Rams had no 2nd to offer so they bit the bullet to get the guy they wanted.

Cooks has been a 1100 yard, 8 TD WR for 3 straight years on 2 different teams. Much like the Rams, those teams like to spread the ball around so I anticipate numbers in that range again, all the while stretching the field and opening things up for our other WRs. I'm not sure who's more talented between him and Watkins but Cooks has been much more consistent. I was in the camp of Rams fans that felt they needed to address the WR position so this is a move that I agree was important for the team to continue where they left off offensively last year.
