Bandwagons are interesting. I've purposely never picked a title winning team to start rooting for. If I did I would be a Steelers fan, a Reds fan, and a Celtic fan when I first jumped on my sports teams in 1976-1977. Sure I looked at record, success and a favorite player or 3 but there wasn't a sure outcome. Whiner fans though were so scarce pre 1981 and then suddenly 10s of thousands came out late in the 1981 season. I just laugh at any whiner fan who reveals those origins.

You can tell for the most part when fans started rooting for their teams. Ironically in the Upstate, NY area many that were my age born in 1966 were Cowboy & Yankee fans because when they were 10-12 those teams were winning.

Or a Raider fan, a Yankees fan and a Dr. J fan.
Funny because when we lost to the Vikes I became a temporary Raiders fan in that SB. Same with Dr J and the Sixers after we lost to Portland. Yankees though... never a temp thing never liked them. A little dad influence as he hated the Celtics and Yankees. So I copied. He was a big Braves fan since their Milwaukee era and Packers fan since pre-Lombardi days but cheered for Rams when we moved to Cali in the mid 60s.

The problem with new fans is once the team starts to struggle, they quit following. My friends from Tacoma don’t even watch Seahawks games now. I messaged them in the first Rams matchup and they said they didn’t even know they were playing each other.

Maybe it’s my fault though. If I sense that someone is a newer fan, I immediately am dismissive of their opinion, because I feel that they don’t deserve my respect.

Every time I see this thread title I think of Ron Pickering and We Are The Champions. One for those this side of the pond though.

Rightly so. It is like talking about anything with a millenial and I hear them say "literally." :laugh3:

YEP !!! RAYBOY F”D that one UP !!!

His ego & insecurities caught up with him.He and the 8ers got lucky last season and didn’t realize it.All those fans were crying just like those WEAK RAMS FANS(haters) that don’t realize what they have in a DC !!

By the way F””” STAYLEY !!! He’s a JOKE & OVERRATED!!! For those Morris HATERS as well. Take those 2 3rd rd picks & STICK IT in LES Sneads pockets !! Plus enjoy your SUPER BOWL gear.

Well we’ll see what Kevin O’connel’s got ?Glad Morris didn’t get that Vikings job instead of him.
He is the better coach though & his last 2 seasons are even better than Matt Lafleur’s or Zac Taylor?? Then again high standards from Sean Mcvay’s coaching tree.

I guess Ratboy is staying,do wonder how if traded that would change the nfc much ?

He’s exactly right. Before the Cheating Super Bowl team, I never saw anything Patriots anywhere. After that game and the next few years there was Patriot stuff everywhere, and I’m in Pennsylvania!

My niece is a Chiefs fan. An old neighbor of mine goes around with Niners stuff on. When did they both start watching the NFL? Last years Super Bowl. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but one of them (the neighbor)is such an obnoxious fan and tries to be taken seriously when she talks football. If you listened to her, you’d think she was a Niners fan since the 80’s. And you’d also think the Niners were the best team in the league right now and there were no other teams even close.

I hate newish fanbases. They have no humility because they never followed their team through a down period.
I figure that your niece is a chiefs fan primarily because Taylor Swift is dating Kelce.
