I recently read that Mayo was Belichick’s hand picked successor and Kraft had a previous agreement with Bill to give Mayo the first shot at leading the Patriots. Now, that Belichick is out of the picture, Kraft no longer feels the need to hold up his end of the agreement. Mayo was a colossssl failure. Supposedly he lost the locker room by 3/4s of the season. Supposedly it was apparent that he had no plan and even blamed players for as one losses.

So Kraft said, “Screw this, and screw Bill. For now on I’m eating my sandwiches with no Mayo.”

Mayo was handpicked by Kraft and undermined Belicheck last year. Everything else above is accurate based on what I hear on talk radio every day here in NE

If Vrabel is all that and a bag of chips, why didnt the Pats just hire him last off season instead of going thru the charade of having Mayo for a year?
They really thought Mayo was going be great. There is an interesting piece about a trip they took to the holy land in Israel (2019) which Kraft talked about alot on local news.

I dont see how he could been so highly valued to then be tossed aside after just 1 season. Alas, I hope it brings nothing but bad karma

Still doesnt add up. If a better candidate became available they didnt have to honor some pat on the back agreement
What does add up?

The timeline:

Vrabel is fired Jan 9th
Belichick is fired Jan. 11th
Mayo is hired by New England on Jan. 12th
Harbaugh hired by LAC Jan. 24th
Callahan hired by Tennessee Jan. 24th
Canales hired by Carolina Jan. 25th
MacDonald hired by Seattle Jan. 31st
After interviews with Seattle and Washington, Johnson removes his name from consideration Jan. 31st
Quinn is hired by Washington February 3rd

Why didn't New England hire Vrabel?

So far, Johnson has scheduled interviews with New England and Chicago, reportedly isn't interested in Jets job.
Vrable is still out there and some have tied him to both jobs.
Should be interesting to see the reset.

Jets?
Bears?
Patriots?
Las Vegas?
Jacksonville?
New Orleans?

Seems like there's some Patriots drama there between Vrabel & Kraft. Makes me like Vrabel more if true tbh. :laugh2:

What's interesting is the reputations these guys get.

Saleh.....awesome DC with SF. His last year there they were #17 in points, #5 in yards allowed.
Demeco Ryans took over from Saleh in 2021....#9/#3; #1/#1
Since Ryans left they've been #3/#8 and #29/#8.
Saleh has been fired, Ryans is going to the playoffs again.

Is Detroit's success due to Ben Johnson?
Or is it due to the bevy of offensive talent they have acquired.
Perhaps both?
Amon St. Brown, Jameson Williams, Jahmyr Gibbs, David Montgomery, Jared Goff, Sam LaPorta...that's a nice lineup.
What could McVay do with those weapons? What could Kliff Kingsbury or Liam Coen do with them?

Josh Allen is awesome. Who couldn't have success with him?
Brian Daboll, Ken Dorsey, Joe Brady all had some degree of success with him.
But no Superbowl.

Lamar Jackson is unbelievable. Who couldn't have success with him?
Greg Roman couldn't get him to the Superbowl. Todd Monken is trying. Is it them or Lamar?

Dorsey is with Cleveland but they're a clusterfuck. Roman is with the Chargers. Daboll is still with the Giants.

I would say so. But I figure he lands in New England.
That's why is so much fun this time of year. The coaching carousel is almost as interesting as the playoffs. More so if the Rams aren't in it.:laugh2:One nice thing is I haven't heard Shula's name mentioned anywhere, which is good for the Rams.

If Vrabel is there guy, and was fired BEFORE they "parted ways" with Belichick, they should have hired him then
Simple math

You are so right.

It's always the talent of the players. Coaches can obviously make some difference, but it always comes back to talent.
Belichick when talent left? - loses
McVay when injuries occur (talent is on IR) ? - loses

I think if Johnson takes a head coaching job (and depending on which one), it will turn out like McDaniels.
Johnson's success is about Detroit's OL, RB/WR/TE talent and a bit of Goff.
Any NFL OC would be successful with that OL.

I know what you are saying, but what was Kraft to do, break the deal he made with Mayo and hire Vrabel and publicly look like an asshole, or hold the Mayo and simply look like an idiot after a bad season for hiring him in the first place?

Either way he still ended up looking like an asshole lol

And when BB flames out in LV, Brady leans back, lights a cigar and says "yup, told you those Super Bowl wins were me, not him"
