That would piss me off as a Bear fan.
McCarthy is a buffoon as a head coach but he knows offense. So he would at least give them return on all that offensive investment they made.

Really the key differentiator with all these offensive coaches is who their DC pairing is. And do they give you a nice duo in that regard. The unprovens might be good, or might not be. I mean look at Ben Johnson. How good is he really when he's got a top unit in terms of quality across the board. Don't get me wrong he's still the top candidate I'd say. But he's no sure thing and unfortunately we can't see the interviews and how he carries himself around the facility.

Maybe the return of Brandon Staley. He’s a better DC than a head coach.

I actually met Ben Johnson at one of my mom’s art show. He and Slim Pickens were the MCs for the rodeo that was part of the show.
That's awesome! My wife ran into him twice at different stores and my mother in law was such a big fan, he left his hand written shopping list in the shopping cart when he was done and she went and grabbed it! My wife heard him tell his wife "You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear" when they were looking at an item to buy.

Huge fan of Ben Johnson (and Slim Pickens was also great).

Have read several times that Johnson turned-down the Sam the Lion role in the Last Picture Show because he thought the movie was too 'dirty'. Peter Bogdanovich went to Legendary director John Ford for help, and Ford helped convice Johnson to take the role that was perfect for him and he won an Oscar.

Very Shocked that Johnson will take the Raiders gig. IMO, they do not have a QB or WR's for that matter although I guess Tom Brady has been selling Johnson. Seriously, who will be the QB for the Raiders next year under Johnson and how long will Brady continue to have influence as maybe Davis does the NFL a favor and sell his team?

Coincidentally, Brady will be in Detroit this week. He's calling the game.

Yeah, that's a weird choice if he takes it. Other than TE they don't have much of anything on offense really. I'm guessing they go out and get one of the vet QBs that'll be on market and draft someone too. If they do that and grab one of the top free agent WRs like Higgins they could turn that offense around with Johnson at helm. But there's a lot that has to fall into place for that. With Cowboys sniffing for Shedeur and Deion maybe they trade their 1st for Dak Prescott so the Cowboys have firepower to move up even more if they want.

I wonder if he can continue to broadcast games being an owner. Now Brady only holds a 5 percent share, however, seems to be totally involved in this scenario. And again I understand that Johnson might think with Brady involved and the fact that Davis will pay him what he wants could influence his decision, but that is the toughest division in the AFC plus they do not have an NFL caliber QB and even if they trade up for Sanders, what will be the price and is Sanders worthy of that trade up?

Makes you think he has a free agent QB in mind to start for him.

I guess I will believe Ben Johnson to the Raiders when I see it. Of course, I have no idea.

My thought process is simply that Johnson had opportunities last off-season but seemed determined to be patient, and wait for a really good spot to be. Las Vegas does not seem like a good spot. Aside from the lack of talent at key offensive positions, there is an owner that strikes me as an unpredictable wild-card.
The presence of Brady as a minority owner / advisor does not change things enough for me.

Meanwhile, Chicago seems like a very good opportunity for Johnson; and perhaps Jacksonville (especially if Baalke was removed from the Front Office). That makes me think about the single most important factor in most Big-Time-Hiring-Decisions ... Money. Perhaps, Johnson's representatives would use the Raiders' interest (believe Davis gave Gruden a $100M contract) as leverage for more $ from teams that are more desirable.

But, again ... I have no idea.

Not sure who that would be or the Raiders might plan on trading up too. Darnold seems the best available, but does Johnson really think that highly of him? The other names on the list are just of cast of castoffs and I realize that Johnson wants to paid in the upper tier even though he does not have any experience, however, IMO, the Raiders & the Jets would be the least attractive jobs although the markets are superior to some of the others.

Look what Johnson did with Goff who likely was less liked than Darnold around here. Makes me think he's a possibility for the Raiders and they don't have to break the bank.

It would make sense and if Johnson feels that Darnold has that type of ability, than who am I to question Johnson's analyses.
