This is the first opportunity I've had to watch an all-22 perspective.

3rd and 22

Rapp and Burgess are playing 15 yard deeper than the nearest receiver when the ball arrives with no awareness of the line to gain (nearly 10 yards in front of them). Super Ugly. Zone coverage concept with too many guys guarding grass rather than the receiver in the zone.

Still too soft. Zone Coverage. JJ passes the receiver off to Burgess who is flat footed. Slips. Easy completion.

1st and goal

Man coverage. JJ and Williams guarding the same guy (Diggs) leaves the TE free. Williams looks confused, and takes Ramsey out of the play. Kiser has outside contain. Kiser sees the TE run free and leaves his assignment to cover. Easy TD. Hill also lost.

Coverage scheme is a mess.

Yep prevent style soft zone. With pass rush emphasizing contain over pressure, again prevent style. This is one of the most poorly coached defenses I've seen at the NFL level. I've been saying it for 3 weeks now and it's getting worse not better. It's Staley not the players many of whom played for Wade and played better overall. So far Staley is a clear downgrade at DC.

The question is how many losses will it take for McVay to fire this loser.

I don’t think Rapps as good as he’s perceived. There were quite a few times last year he got beaten like a racist in BLM parade.
good athletes don’t always have the best football instincts. Cough cough Aaron curry.

.

there's no doubt if fuller was out there the rams win the game. the free safety has to be decisive and attack the receiver before the ball gets there.

what a painful video to watch.

.

Those clips infuriate me. Blow up whatever stupid scheme it is. It sucks.

You got Aaron Donald the best player ever demanding 2-3 guys every play and you can't find a way to cover the middle of the dam field with 7 blue jerseys.

Get it fixed Staley. This shit happened 3 times. Known passing downs.

It's not Rapps fault IMO. He's been benched and then goes out there cold. I bet he hadn't even practiced the scheme. Look at the rest of the DBs they are all confused and lost out there. THAT IS POOR COACHING NOTHING LESS. One guy okay, but not the entire secondary. They know Staley's scheme is FU and a mish-mosh of this and that and it makes no sense so your damn right even the vets are confused. When you have a 3 man d-line with one purposefully aligned playing a 2 gap technique than the other 2 playing one gap, that's a damn DC who doesn't know WTF he's doing.

Snead needs to intervene and fire this clown.

Do we give his replacement 3 games, or trim it to 2?

The obvious advantage of 2 games is; by mid season we will have churned thru 3 defensive coordinators and can just pick the best from the 3. (y)

I didn’t use blue font, b/c I am trying to pursue your idea... How does it work, changing coordinators after 3 games?

haha, good one :fistbump:

We do need to give the guy time to work it out, suffice it to say, you got till the Niners game bro. They aint gonna fire him mid season, what needs to happen is Mcvay step in and influence him with let call it "required suggestions".

This screams pay attention to me imo

Over reactions aside, looks like most of the play calling is good just got to get a few players to execute better. Very early in a season with a new defense and no preseason to get rookies/young guys playing time and we are now relying on them heavily against a very good passing team. Shit was bound to happen. Doesn't make it any less disappointing but the scheme is fine, just need better execution and experience.

I would like to see some more creative blitzing here and there but hard to do that with safeties who don't play zone well. Impatiently waiting to hear about Fuller's injury. Getting Fuller, Robinson, and Lewis back will make an impact I think. Would like more playing time for Gaines and Hollins in the Giants game to see what they can do before we take on some big dogs.

Let's not forget the 6 points our D gave up in the 2nd halfs of the previous 2 games. Same guy wanted Staley fired then too.

Staley didn't slip on 3 and 25, Burgess did.
Staley didn't make those throws, a very hot young QB did.

I know those final drive plays are tough to watch but I am not seeing our scheme leaving guys open, I'm seeing players fail to make the play.

Of all the behavior of football fans, nothing is more annoying to me than the blow it up know it alls.

New faces, new scheme, new DC, young secondary. They can't have 4 games before some armchair DC starts his scorched earth campaign???

The Rams are the youngest team in the NFC. Burgess clearly wasn't ready to play, as evidenced by the fact that he hasn't been playing. He got some action because Fuller was hurt.

So while people were asking if Fuller was that good - I don't think that's necessarily the case, but when you compound the entire team playing bad with Burgess having to play in key situations, yep.

Seriously though guys, it's not that big of a deal. We had some bad plays - by these standards the Seahawks should not only fire their DC, but Carroll too since he's a defensive minded HC and they're on pace to shatter the NFL's worst pass defense record.

I'm not sure if it's an LA fan thing? I know that LA teams typically only thrive when they have winners, but losing one game is not that big of a deal. Especially when it's a good AFC team, and an early start across the country.

This scheme is varied and effective at making life hard on passing games. McVay chose this DC. Hand picked him FOR the scheme. If you want to cry foul about the scheme you are wasting your time dudes.

How any rational and knowledgeable fan could watch those vids and think scheme is the problem... I don't get it.

He did most of his good work sliding down close to the line.
Solid against the run and could jump short routes, solid tackler down there.
At a tradition S spot he was less effective I think.

You know how it is on fan boards.
Win a game and the team will never lose again.
Lose a game and the team will never win again.

It’s a good thing you weren’t in charge when Spagnaulo got hired as DC for the Giants and KC. His defenses were thrashed in the beginning of the season For both teams and then once the team grasped his concepts and got them down both teams went on to win Super Bowls with dominant defensive play. Give it some time and let’s see what happens.

It's just especially heartbreaking because this is the exact same way we were booted from the playoffs last year. Giving up two third and long completions to Garappolo in the final minutes last season sealed our fate and was one of the things that sealed Wade Phillips fate.

And don't forget the Cowboys game this season could have gone down exactly the same way. We got lucky there.

Get that sh@t fixed Staley. Hopefully we don't miss the playoffs by one game again this year.
