I'll bet you $1000 he sees every single snap on Monday.

Dude I can't wait to have Ashawn out there. I was beyond pumped when we signed him only to have the wind taken from my sails when he went on IR in August. Having him back within the next few weeks is great freaking news!
I can’t believe we get to see him play. He was my favorite free agent pick up.

(y):giggle:

I posted a few days back that A'Shawn Robinson might benefit this Staley defense better @ the 5 tech post than the middle NT post early here on getting back into playing shape. NT Sebastian Joseph-Day is quietly trending better this season overall & has held his own with helpmate Greg Gaines @ NT in the run defense.

Long time veteran starting DL Micheal Brockers seems to be trending downward as of late. He turned in a poor game performance this last Sunday. It should be mentioned here that Brockers has not had a full day practice since week 4. The only info was due to "Not Injury Related" & a toe injury. That would be 3 straight weeks without a full practice.:bueller:

This starting DL'er Brockers has not had a tackle on his own in two games. Against the 9ers he was only able to get one assist. DC Staley & DL coach has been flipping AD & MB much more as of late between the 5 & 3 tech posts. Thus I have been wondering about all the physical health concerns that the Baltimore Ravens had on MB back in March when at the last moment terminated their contract negotiations with MB.

Morgan Fox who gets approx less than 1/3 the snaps that Brockers get had a much better overall two games. In fact, this part-time back up has much better overall tacks stats than the starting Brockers has thus far. Fox is doing more with fewer snaps than the veteran Brockers.

It would be interesting from my perspective to see what a Robinson/Fox duo @ the 5 tech post can do. Flipping MB to relieve & spell Aaron Donald @ the 3 tech post. In addition, MB seeing some snaps on passing downs @ NT too. MB might be able to generate some pressure from the NT post that SJD & GG have not been able to do much of.

Agree, Brockers is overrated and honestly not contributing this season at all. I was not enthused when we resigned him actually. He is a dime a dozen DT at this point and the money should have been used elsewhere.

He is, but he is also the longest tenured ram and a positive in the locker room. It's the organization taking care of their own. I was happy with it, but Brockers is struggling to make any impact.

Our run D would be worse if Brockers wasn't playing. And he has more sacks so far than I remember him getting. SJD and Gaines aren't better than him right now.

overrated by who? I don't see anyone calling for Michael Brockers in the pro bowl. He's a solid NFL vet. Nothing more or less.

At 14m guaranteed we are basically paying Brockers for two years at 7m per year.

It's not bad for someone that is a solid player and contributes to wins.

We all know he's not an impact player but he does dirty work and holds his own. If our LBers were better or healthier we would have a very solid run stopping defense. The DL does a solid job most games.

Good post.

However, I have to disagree on one point you made.

Eating up multiple blockers, being a immovable object and clogging up the middle is definitely an, "impact" position.

In my opinion, nothing impacts the game more than the dirty work that's done in the trenches.

100 percent agree. A podcast I listened to had a host that talked about Bart Scott. Bart told him that, as great as a player as Ray Lewis was, bart scott freed him up for a lot of tackles by taking on down lineman. Even if meant him getting pancaked week in and week out. There's no stat for that but it greatly impacts the game.

Likely better if he is fresher... and gets more snaps off.

Agree 100%. Robinson's talents & skills (once back to playing condition) will be a huge benefit to this run defense. Robinson still could use more refinement of pass-rushing moves. I am sure DL coach Henderson will be busy with him. But right now the Rams will shortly get a DL'er who can be effective either @ NT or the 5 tech posts in Staley 34 D. Robinson's playing history (Bama/Detroit) indicates he fills his gap & very hard to move @ the LOS. He is excellent at preventing holes from opening up. A little more NT than 5 tech model.

3 tech DT Donald continues to get around 85% of the defensive snaps. 5 tech DT Brockers snaps went up dramatically against 9ers @ 82% up from previous 2 gms where MB was seeing around 50-57 % of the snaps. Both our NT SJ-D & Gaines snaps have been going up over the last 3 weeks too. Fox's snaps have remained steady @ approx 40%. What Robinson will do these running DL %'s will be interesting.

ER Jachai Polite snaps are slowly increasing too as is OLB'er Justin Hollins. Polite usually see the snaps when Staley goes to a 4 player DL with two DL'ers & two ER/OLB'ers thus providing the five DL'ers longer breathers & rest. With Robinson, active.... things will change up. Brockers played an unusually high 82% snaps against the 9ers with very little stat impact. I am sure that he did his job though....he is a true professional.

Hollins is seeing action all over, he will line up on both sides of the DL in the OLB posts, plus snaps in a 3 point stance as a pass rusher with a 4 player DL In addition to seeing snaps @ the WS/ILB'er post.
Likely better if he (Brockers) is fresher... and gets more snaps off.
Brockers has a very good amount of talent & skill to have started all the DL positions ... 3 tech, 5 tech & the NT positions over his 9 NFL seasons. I think Brocker's impact on each snap would increase if he was utilized closer to being a top swing reserve @ all 3 base DL posts. In addition, if Brockers snaps were to decrease back close to the 55 to 60% range. Brockers seeing more 3 tech snaps might in effect lower to a small degree the snaps percentages of Donald on running downs, NT's(SJD & Gaines). Keeping Donald fresh for the pass rush pressures when needed the most.
