Ok, so he likely takes Burgess' spot on the 53-man roster. Who takes Sloman's? And yes, Forbath takes his JOB, but was already on the roster. Does Noteboom come back off the IR? Someone from the practice squad (Deayon)? Someone else?
Another tweet by her said McVay claimed he was taking Sloman's spot. They wouldn't be able to fill Burgess' slot until after the bye. They technically could be the player wouldn't clear protocol and play until the bye week so they are likely to just wait.

This is interesting. If Burgess' replacement won't be available until after the bye, wouldn't that mean they are either signing a street free agent or bringing in a player from another team?

Or they are just waiting until then to bring someone back from the IR (Noteboom, Fuller) and will fill from the PS in the meantime (using the extra two spots, not signing someone from the PS). Deayon makes sense to cover our secondary while we are a little low on depth.

overrated by who? I don't see anyone calling for Michael Brockers in the pro bowl. He's a solid NFL vet. Nothing more or less.

Brockers was a huge difference int he playoff game against Atlanta years ago. When he went out, the D suffered. I don't think he's on that level anymore, but he's still pretty solid.

It could yes, Fuller coming back wouldn't face those restrictions nor would somebody from the practice squad. Suggests somebody on another PS or a free agent.

Since you can bring up PS guys on gameday its not as urgent... And Covid protocols complicate things anyway.

I am guessing they stay where they are since they are expecting to bring guys up soon off of IR.

I forgot Fuller will be back soon. Agreed, that he is the most logical to fill that spot.

A'Shawn Robinson eager to be Rams' midseason addition

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) — Right before A'Shawn Robinson's first day of training camp with the Los Angeles Rams, the veteran defensive tackle swerved from the excitement of a fresh start to the uncertainty of a potentially serious medical problem.

With his health improved and his future with his new team looking bright, Robinson is eager to get to work.

“Football is life,” Robinson said. “It’s been my life since I was 2 years old. I ain’t never going to stop it, and that’s my excitement. I’ll never stop.”

The Rams (5-2) activated Robinson to their 53-man roster Friday, but they haven't decided whether the hulking defensive tackle will play Sunday at Miami (3-3).

The fifth-year pro has been practicing for two weeks, and he should provide an all-around boost to the interior of Los Angeles' defensive line when he finally gets the go-ahead to make his Rams debut.

The 6-foot-4, 330-pound Robinson has obvious skills as a run-stopper, but he also batted down 16 passes during his first four NFL seasons with the Detroit Lions.

The Rams’ run defense has been near the middle of the league pack this year, so Robinson’s arrival will address an area of need, whether it happens Sunday or after Los Angeles' upcoming bye week.

“We look forward to getting him back rolling with us, because he’s going to be a big addition and a big boost to our team,” coach Sean McVay said.

Robinson and the Rams have been deliberately vague about his medical condition, with the team citing privacy concerns while Robinson says he simply wants to move forward. Robinson on Friday called it “a respiratory situation (that) happened in the past, and now we've moved on.”

Robinson confirmed that one of his biggest concerns was the possibility his condition could be worsened by contracting COVID-19, but his worries apparently were assuaged over the past two months.

“It was annoying, very annoying,” Robinson said. “I was excited to get in with the guys, and things happened. It's life. ... I think about it every day, just in general with COVID."

Robinson joined the Rams last spring as a free agent after a college career at Alabama and four seasons with Detroit, but he's already had quite an eventful few months in Los Angeles even before his first game with his new team.

The Rams initially signed Robinson to a two-year, $17 million deal as a replacement for Michael Brockers, the big run-stopping tackle who signed with Baltimore early in free agency. When Brockers’ deal with the Ravens broke down due to medical concerns, the Rams jumped back in to re-sign Aaron Donald's longtime linemate — but they also kept Robinson, who said he would embrace whatever role the Rams found for him.

“He’s going to add big-time depth to the front,” McVay said. “He’s got versatility across the front, physicality, athleticism. He can play in all personnel groupings, and that was what we liked so much about him.”

Robinson likely would have played a major role from the start, but the Rams placed him on the non-football injury list right at the start of training camp.

Robinson got into practice last week for the first time, but he made it through those tough first 2 1/2 months with ample help from his teammates and his new defensive coordinator, Brandon Staley.

“Coach Staley every day would tell me, ‘One day at a time,’” Robinson said. “'Chase the day. Treat it as if you can beat this day. Don't worry about what it's going to be down the road.' It kept me in good spirits.

It's a real brotherhood here. It's very different from where I've been, and being here is where I want to be. I'm excited to be back out there with those guys and give them everything I can to help.”

NOTES: The Rams won't decide until Sunday whether TE Tyler Higbee will play, McVay said. Higbee missed Monday's victory over Chicago with a hand injury that makes it painful to catch passes.

The rest of the Rams should be ready to play in Miami, with everyone participating in practice Friday. ... The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday, but McVay thinks it will be quiet for the Rams, who have swung their share of big midseason trades over the past few seasons.

“We feel really good about where we're at,” McVay said. “We're in good shape. Do not anticipate any crazy moves ... unless we have one.”

Robinson was selected in the second round with the 46th overall pick by the Detroit Lions in the 2016 NFL Draft. On May 10, 2016, Robinson signed with the Detroit Lions.

He recorded his first career sack against Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz in Week 5. In Week 16 of the 2016 season, against the Dallas Cowboys, Robinson drew an unnecessary roughness penalty for tackling running back Ezekiel Elliott too hard.

The motion Robinson used on the tackle made it look like he was picking up Elliot and slamming him down, but the announcers agreed that the hit looked clean. He finished his rookie season leading all defensive tackles in the NFL in pass deflections with seven.

During Week 6 of the 2017 NFL season, Robinson recorded his first career interception off Drew Brees and returned it two yards for a touchdown. However, the Lions still lost to the New Orleans Saints by a score of 52-38.

In Week 9, he blocked a Mason Crosby field goal to help the Lions beat the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field by a score of 30-17.

In the 2018 season, Robinson played in 13 games with seven starts, recording 49 tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble. He was placed on injured reserve on December 28, 2018.

In the 2019 season, Robinson played in 13 games with nine starts, recording 40 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and one forced fumble.

On April 24, 2020, A'Shawn Robinson signed a 2 year, $17,000,000 contract with the Los Angeles Rams, including a $6,000,000 signing bonus, $9,500,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $8,500,000.

He was placed on the active/non-football injury list at the start of training camp on August 8, 2020. He was placed on reserve/non-football injury to start the season.

I wonder how much Robinson weighs now? He definitely looks much lighter than 330 in that picture from practice.

I am really-really excited to see this DL with Robinson! Woo!

His past play indicates our run defense will get better with him. It’s already been mostly good, so... his impact will be a nice boost. Two or three more run stopping plays a game from him could stall a drive or two.

Woo! is right!! To me this a very big deal. A'Shawn may take a game or so to round back into full playing shape, but imo he will have a big impact on the d-line and the defense as a whole.

Robinson is really strong, really athletic, and has a championship pedigree with Alabama. Though he was picked in the second round he could easily have gone higher. 25 years old and probably has not yet played his best NFL football. Probably a mismatch for o-liners one on one, at least against the run, and is not likely to be pushed out of a play on the line. He will certainly improve the run defense. But he should do more than that.

A few things stand out to me here.

The Rams have several capable mid round linemen who they have developed and who are playing very well. But A'Shawn is a different kind of cat, a guy who has been a physical top of the line talent since he started playing football.

From a power standpoint, the Rams now a have a guy in the middle like Suh who really can't be pushed around much. That means the d-line will have a much greater physical impact on any offense.

From a depth standpoint, the d-line rotation now will be at minimum really deep and could be crazy good. Staley will also now have a big bag to draw from to dial up specific matchups.

A'Shawn is also maybe the very first guy Staley went out and got for his first gig as a defensive coordinator. Staley saw him firsthand in the Central. Staley seems to know what he wants both in terms of the kind of D he is building and the players he needs to make it happen.

Finally, A'Shawn will be playing with AD. Like others he will benefit greatly from this. But seems to me AD will also benefit a lot from having someone who will lock down if not gobble up blockers.

Ok, I admit I'm like a kid with a new toy at Christmas. Nevertheless, to me bringing A'Shawn on board is a very significant step forward for an already outstanding D.

Remember how many sacks AD had when we had Su. His sack total will be close to 20 this year with Robinson in the line up.

I agree he was the signing I was most excited for this past offseason, due to how he'll help out AD and but more importantly because he hasn't played his best football yet. The fact that he's only 25, incredibly strong and athletic..and we've seen how well other DL play on our team with all the attention AD gets. He could turn into a legit force on the interior as the season goes along. With the improvement Gains has displayed recently we have a real shot to start dominating up front every week. If Floyd can keep improving, T Lewis as well...and once we get Obo back in a few weeks our DL will be nasty. Not to mention how much Fuller will help things on the back end once he returns.
