Obviously the Rams are good at drafting talent and getting the most out of their players. I recall the Fisher years where it wasn't uncommon to see 4th, 5th and 6th and 7 rounders never even make the team. But it seems as if most of the Rams draftees make the team and contribute under McSnead.

Could it simply be that the Rams coach up draftees and good players so they play at their maximum potential? I believe this to be true because so many Rams players who leave, don't wind up playing anywhere near the same level after they leave the team.

That said, I am hopeful that the Rams first 3 - 4 picks in this year's draft includes (not necessarily in this order) Inside Linebacker, Cornerback and Offensive line. I know a tight end seems to be the prevailing thought, but if the Rams want to win it all, they can still get a lot from Higbeast and draft a TE to groom for the future. As for my reasoning for OL, it's because we need depth in case of an injury and we have seen what a bad Oline can do to a good team.

Based on Jourdan’s reports, b videos after the draft and what Snead and McVay have said,…..they’ve narrowed down a criteria for what it takes to be a Ram. They had a Wall Street guy make a test to measure leadership. They look for players that love the game. They look for highly motivated players with a dawg mentality. They seem to favor maturity and players that can contribute right away.

In years past Fisher was willing to ignore character concerns. This regime prioritizes character. It sounds like they’ve found a formula that works when it comes to picking players. Snead has had many years to hone his craft and seems to have figured something out.

That being said. Every draft class is different and there is no guarantee that he can do it every year. Some teams have put together great drafts in consecutive years and then can’t duplicate that success.

What’s promising is that Snead has been able to succeed without first round picks and also by drafting late in each round.

The freak athletes and day 1 ready guys based on skills are gone by the 3rd round for the most part.
So, it comes down to finding players, but, finding players that fit your scheme and what you want to do.
If a guy comes in and plays 4 years in an org and is a contributor as a late round pick, that is a great draft pick.
Its also not surprising when a guy goes somewhere else and sort of flounders.
I will be interested to see who Hoeght, for example, does now that he has moved on.

Fisher's Ram teams were poorly coached... and played bad football for the most part.

Being drafted by a poorly coached team leads to short NFL careers for most.

Rams draft history for the one or two people who want to look:

Edit:
but if the Rams want to win it all, they can still get a lot from Higbeast and draft a TE to groom for the future.
As an aside that's probably not related to anything, Higbee was a Fisher draft pick that McSnead early on tried to trade to the Vikings for a Sixth. The Rams haven't brought in a TE worth much since getting Higbee.

And what year was Fisher's worst draft? (A lot to pick from)

How about 2006--Tye Hill, Joe Klophestien, Claude Wroten, Jon Alston Dominique Byrd

I don't think any of them stayed in the NFL very long.

How much input did Fisher have on the draft?

According to AI regarding Donald:
  • Why the Pick:
While some scouts initially questioned Donald's size, the Rams' defensive line coach, Mike Waufle, advocated for his selection, believing he was the best player available.

I thought that was Linehan and Haslett's baby.
I blame Torry Holt & Chavous. Why The Rams didn’t go QB or Naga ?
Jay Cutler & SJ39 would have been a nice pair.Bulger shouldn’t have been extended before Jackson either.Once they did that it was over.Holding him out each year stunk.(Jayz)

The other one was why Chris Long,a try hard undersized DE in a 4-3 defense. Why nit make Arther Blank PAY UP for his QB ? Matt Ryan was a no brainer !!! At least draft him like San Diego drafted ELI MANNING!! They got Tomlinson & (Rivers or Brees) out of it ?
