Was it me or did it seem like he was more focused on complaining than coaching the rest the game after that moment? I suppose he's done a good job deflecting his mistakes onto the refs mistakes. Most Saints fans aren't complaining about his decision to throw instead of run. When they threw that first pass that was low to Thomas I thought "We got a break there. Even if they run it now we have two timeouts to stop the clock and give us time to try and get our own FG".
You guys might not have known about Greg Zuerline, but us Rams fans know there's reason his nickname is "Greg the Leg" or "Legatron". Anywhere inside the 50 is within his range. Especially indoors. That last one woulda made ten more yards.
Your kicker is awesome. Reminded me of the memories of seeing Morten Andersen kick those long field goals back in the day. Zuerline has a shot to break some of his records!
Payton had coached a poor game before and after that non-call.
We couldn't have had a better start to that game with the first drive ending in a score and then getting an interception. After going up 13-0 though, the offense did what they have been doing for the past month and a half - piddle around and keep punting. Then in the second half, we did nothing after that last TD to go up 20-10. The bomb to Ginn was a miracle play and it could've easily backfired. If he don't make that catch, we punt yet again.
Something has been wrong with this team since Dallas kicked our asses. Payton has made some poor decisions in a number of games since then. I thought he coached poorly against the Eagles last week, cause he very nearly cost us that game with some of his questionable play calls. He didn't even bother trying to establish a run against Philly, in a game where our QB was struggling all day long.
I seen absolutely nothing in either of our playoff games that would convince me we would have a shot of beating the Patriots. The potential of a Brees vs Brady SB match would be something extraordinary, possibly the best QB matchup for the SB since Elway vs Montana in 1989. That turned out to be a boring, lopsided game and I think the same would be happening in 2 weeks had the Saints pulled through.
New England's defense would've gave us serious problems. For the past month, teams have been taking away the Saints only two weapons on offense - Kamara and Michael Thomas. Dallas wrote the blueprint, showing how to do it. I watched the AFCCG and one major thing that stood out to me was that the Pats held Tyreek Hill to just one catch and Travis Kelce was completely shut down all day. The Chiefs were able to comeback thanks to Mahomes getting hot and hitting other guys, but his main two play makers were shut down.
Saints fans can get mad at me all they want, but if the Cowboys, Bucs, Panthers, Steelers, Eagles and Rams were able to shut our only two guys down and grind the offense down to a punt-fest, I am 100% sure the Patriots would do the same. We would probably lose by 10 or more points, cause even though our defense had improved and was playing much better, they still struggled with good o-lines. The Steelers were able to carve them up and we had zero sacks in the playoffs. Losing Sheldon Rankins was a huge hit. I honestly think Brady would pick them apart and we lose by 10+.
