Now is the time to say that I was clearly wrong.
Man, he had promise. What I failed to consider was that he's just not that bright. Something between the ears was missing (similar to Jimmy G). I do think he's a solid QB, but he's not a guy who will take you to the Promised Land without an elite defense, running game and quality WRs.
However, now you have Matthew Stafford, who's twice the QB Goff was. I project well over 30 TDs and at some point some talk about MVP. Stafford has never had any help, other than Johnson a few years. He's never even had both a top twenty defense and top twenty run game in the same season (check out the Lions stats on Pro Football Reference for verification of this, year by year).
I also have a potential crow thread waiting to be made on a 49ers board over some morons who think Jimmy Garoppolo is interchangeable with Stafford. There is literally not an activity a QB does that Stafford isn't better than Jimmy in (except sleeping with porn stars), so during the trade rumors we who aren't pure homers were posting a lot of Stafford gifs and videos to demonstrate how he's better than Jimmy. They just wouldn't accept it. So as a 49er fan, hopefully Stafford has his best season, but the Rams lose the division to us and then bow out before the NFCCG.
But yep. I projected Goff to improve. But he didn't have the smarts or heart to do so. I must admit my failure.
This is more or less it. With one of the best offensive minds coaching him for 4 years he just couldn't get over the hump and develop into a true franchise changer. I dont think it had to do with heart, I'm sure he WANTED to get better. But definitely missing something upstairs. For a QB, reading the defense quickly, understanding what you are seeing and making quick decisions, recalling information from previous games, etc. he struggled with all this. Which is why he'll never truly be great. That and I never thought he was a great competitor or leader. Something that Aqib Talib echoed a couple months ago after the Stafford trade. He was asked if he thought it was an upgrade and he said yes in talent and in leadership. He said Goff wasn't a great leader. That's a problem when you're talking about the QB position and someone making $35M. But hey after Bradford and Goff I'm sure our next #1 pick will be the one. We're definitely due.But yep. I projected Goff to improve. But he didn't have the smarts or heart to do so. I must admit my failure.
That somewhere is Turf Show Times, and he has no room to talk either.....his "tractor" got stuck in the mud in Philadelphia.Somewhere LAChamp is saying “I told you so.”
I remember one of those HBO shows where he didn't know that the sun rose in the East and set in the West. To his credit, he later pointed out that Earth just rotates (after researching apparently ).Leave it to a 49er fan to express what many of us have thought about Goff, but were reluctant to say:
"What I failed to consider was that he's just not that bright."
I'm a Rams fan and a Goff fan. Appreciate all that he accomplished for this franchise. But man, this harsh comment kinda sums it up. IMHO.
I mean, if you can't have success in this scheme with such a talented offense around you, you are a perennial backup, so I would expect Goff to have some great games. Goff's arm talent will always make him starter quality, but you're going from a tier three or two starter to a guy just on the cusp of elite. Pretty easy decision, IMHO.Go watch that Green Bay game. Mcvay already said how well he played. He was throwing dimes. 18-20 at one point. -Damage was Already done with Wolford.
That’s a terrible nickname their new rookie QB.....Not possible because it's too wet. Maybe it will be infested with black mold and will be condemned?
