I read the trilogy and the hobbit. Cool.

Actually, Tolkien hated the Hobbit. I thought that it was a good book myself, but who am I to judge the master of fantasy?

Jake is making his call...The announcement of AD's signing will be Friday Night
Loyal, do you have a link for this? Or are you just kidding?

If Jake is indeed making another unfounded “prediction,” that would be concerning

He does not call it unfounded:

"It’s happening
I don’t know why people are so worked up
Donald is playing week one
I was told 24M 65-70M guarantees
If my numbers are off and its 22M with 80M guarantees it shows that Donald decided on more guaranteed money than annual" ~Jake Ellenbogan

He is sticking by his original source.

His Discord Channel for Downtown Rams. I also have direct messaged him about this, and that's where he gets the Friday evening time frame after the Preseason games that day.

Cool, thanks for link.

I am of two minds about this.

If indeed it is announced on Friday, I’d give all props to Jake for having a terrific source.

If on the other hand the announcement is made any day other than Friday, I would have to say I agree with Corbin’s harsh criticism. It’s just not cool to make predictions, and then when they don’t happen, just shrug it off like it’s no big deal. For reporters, accuracy is everything.

(Honestly, it would seem to make more sense for Rams to make an announcement on Thursday if possible, since reporters will be swarming them with AD questions before and after the game.)

Lastly— really don’t like the implication that, “I don’t know why people are so worked up, if my numbers were off, it just means things changed.“

If a reporter says “Senator Smith will travel to Arizona on Friday”, but instead what happens is that Senator Jones travels to Utah on Thursday... well, then, the reporter loses credibility.

I take this differently. It seems he is talking more about the excitement everyone is experiencing about a possible deal...THEN he says that the numbers might be a little different He said exactly:
"I don’t know why people are so worked up. Donald is playing week one" Which tells me he directed it at the idea of Donald not missing games in the regular season

Fair enough, valid point regarding the “worked up” phrase, I think your interpretation is exactly right.

I still stand by my concerns about reporting inaccurate numbers, though.

Sometimes it's the source, not the reporters. Recent example: Lanny Davis.

i don't understand why some people here expect @jakebogen95 to predict 100% what's gonna happen. he's only passing along what he's been told. some of the reactions in here man, weird.

what journalist predicts anything 100%? they all pass what their sources tell them or make shit up. why is jake being held to a higher standard?

My take is— reporters should be extremely careful about making “predictions” in general. Reporters should mostly stick to reporting known facts.

If a reporter is speculating, he should say so. If a reporter is making an educated guess, say so. But when a reporter uses definitive language like “XYZ will happen on Friday,” and then it doesn’t, then it’s a problem.

I can predict with absolute Certainty that Donald will sign within the next 3 days.

Now if something falls out I can Guarantee Donald signs before the season starts.

or during the Season if something just goes sour.

But for sure he will sign with the Rams at some point in the next few years.

Unless of course a trade happens.

You heard it here first!! :shocking:

Sports reporters point to trusted sources all of the time and relay information that way. "My sources say Aaron Donald will come to terms for (so much) and when. As for the final numbers, we all know that's a ball park figure in advance until we get to examine the deal itself. Maybe Jake should have used less declarative language in predicting things, but he seems pretty sure of whoever it is (I have my hunch who his source is) is well placed to know. He doesn't see the difference so much in shifting guaranteed money around with yearly salary...hence:

"I was told 24M 65-70M guarantees.
If my numbers are off and its 22M with 80M guarantees it shows that Donald decided on more guaranteed money than annual"

I myself always figure the first reported numbers are sorta right and sorta wrong, unless it's from the team.

That’s the entirety of my point, in a nutshell.

Don’t get me wrong, I think Jake is a young reporter with a bright future. He’s clearly passionate about what he does, he works his butt off, and I also believe he has some legitimately good sources.

I just think he needs to be much more careful with how he words things. A reporter shouldn’t report something which causes the head coach of the Rams to to dispute it by saying, “that’s news to us,” as McVay had to do a couple weeks ago.

Go back and read his tweet. He opens with "Very optimistic...".

Doesn't that seem to be a fair statement? He did not tweet, "Donald Will Sign Friday".

Sounds like he has a good source. A source he trusts, maybe from past information. So, he's optimistic about the signing. That's fair reporting in my view.

I'm counting the minutes til Friday, especially with the reports of McVay's today...

Well..HC's have to be liars at certain points of the year....Like just prior to the draft, and if/when someone asks you about a matter that you don't want in the press yet..such as "that's news to us." lol
