Sssshhhhhhhh ... (whispering): I want other teams to forget about Brockers .... (insert evil laugh here).
I really don't think Brockers will demand a huge break the bank contract, he seems like a guy that loves his team, and wants to stay. Just my opinion.

I wasn't really thinking in terms of contract, we re-upped him 2 years ago anyway. I was more thinking from the perspective of an opposing OC/HC, hoping in their focus on AD and NDonkyKong Suh that they forget how good Brockers is ... ;)

It's hard for me not to smile when looking at this. I still cant believe we'll be rolling these three out. If we have a good year and Suh enjoys his time here, why would he not seriously think about staying? He's already made a ton of money, and by all accounts is very smart and a great businessman off the field. I bet he's confident he'll continue to make money after he leaves the NFL. I just hope he just loves playing with AD, Brock and living the LA life. If we can keep these three together for a few years my lord...

I started this before I saw your post.

Big cap hits in 2020 and 2021 of 25M and 27M. Not that 22.5M in 2022 is not a big number. Could be Goff starts getting his big money in 2022 thus staggering the cap hit some. I'm sure Demoff has this well planned out.

Goff cap hit is approximately $8.9 million in 2019. 2020 would be his 5th year option. That would have been $20.9 million in 2018, and given the huge QB contracts given out this past offseason, is likely to rise significantly. I'm estimating $24-25 million by 2020. So they would need to sign him long term before then to have the initial cap hit be less than that, and given what has happened in QB contracts - If Goff is as good as we expect, gotta figure 6 years $168 million at least. The first year might be less than $24 million thanks to a huge signing bonus, but each bit less adds to future years. So we have to figure a decent cap hit at least. Now, they might save $10,750,000 from 2019 by not resigning Brockers, who is a free agent, though that's a loss most of us would prefer to avoid. Gurley's extension kicks in for 2020 also.

2020 is the year I expect player losses that will bother people. On the bright side, 2018 and 2019 should be good.

As @flv noted, signing bonuses can only be prorated over 5 years.

However, if they structure the contract similar to Matt Ryan's contract, then his 2020 hit will be under $20M, likely and be managed at a relatively even level after that.

As with AD, I can't imagine this FO blanching at guaranteeing money into the 4th or even 5th years.

Also, if we lose Brockers (some team may throw him an offer he can't refuse), I fully expect us to work HARD to resign Suh (which might happen anyway, although that would really reduce the Rams' flexibility going forward. It wouldn't be so much "win now" as "win or lose with who we got")

I expect we'll lose players every year as that's what happens with successful teams.

That said, this FO seems to be identifying a larger critical core than most which I truly appreciate.

I mean, they've already identified that Peters and Goff are on the agenda. I think that either Joyner or Suh may stay although probably not both.

Not sure how it's gonna pan out, but I do know that this FO can figure out a plan better than most.

Here is what is reported for 2020 without the Havenstein contract that they haven't updated. They also don't have Goff's number. Brockers could be a casualty of the other contracts and Barron's health has been a question mark. If he is healthy his 9 Million doesn't look so bad. The Rams are top heavy on contract numbers. Donald, Gurley, Cooks, Havenstein, Woods, NRC and Goff are all secure. That is the foundation the Rams are building on. Hekker has the 8th highest cap number. Marcus Peters is another big deal that will take big money too. The rest of the roster is cheap labor.

It's 2021 when the rookie class of 2017 will be free agents. Kupp, Johnson and company. So it will be 2020 decision time. I guess those are the players the Rams could lose. The QB numbers a staggering although I think Goff may not hold the Rams hostage to make a deal. If you took out 25 Mlillion for Goff, 18 Million for Peters and 8 Million for Havenstein that leaves the Rams with estimate of 48+ Million remaining.

Well at least we can get an idea of what they Rams are facing in 2020. Your right 2018 and 20159 look very good.

You are not telling me anything haven’t known since he suited up for the Rams. I was just noting that he has lost a lot of weight.

So is that a bad thing ??

That is sort of what the article seemed to be saying ?
There are people questioning it. I don’t know ? The numbers won’t lie, but playing next to Suh should be a thing of beauty if you like defense.

It can be, when you are dealing with 350 pound behemoths.

They also move that much slower. Aaron Donald keeps getting faster & better with his hands & feet. He is non-stop training.
He maybe in the best condition in his life.Is that a bad thing ?

Don’t mean to be a ball buster. Just after signing a huge contract, I hope it all plays out perfect. There has never been a guy like him for years.
John Randel sort of comes to mind innreuards to size & playing DT/DE

We are talking past each other. Yes, Donald is freak with leverage and conditioning. But a player needs mass as well, otherwise long distance runners would be kicking @ss in the NFL.
