Why don't you think the Rams will go CB early in the draft?
I'm not satisfied with what we have now and don't think we would want to overpay for one in FA.

Just the way I usually come to conclusions( trends and percentages.) Since 2017 Sean Mcvay/Snead have been together the CB's they've drafted:

2019 David Long 3rd
2021 Robert Rochelle 4th
2022 Kobie Durant 4th
2022 Derion Kendrick 6th
2023 TreVious Tomilson 6th

Just like coordinators and quality control guys do on the staff they follow percentages and trends. Obviously looking at those 5 draft picks since 2017.

Same reason I don't think they'll pick a top flight Center this draft with 4 pretty damn good ones. We seen with Kelce retiring in Philly what a amazing center can do for a line with accurate and legit protection calls, cohesion with a QB to give him time to digest other things like coverage and alignment, and actually being a mauler. Sigh...

Just don't think they value the positions in the draft.

But part of their overall approach has also been to exploit market inefficiencies... and they were ahead of the curve. Sure, they paid a lot for Jalen and Stafford.. but subsequent trades trying to copy the Rams approach showed an even higher cost in draft capital, it seems. Maybe I'm wrong there.

So, where do they go?

If we look at some assumptions around here.. the Rams wouldn't draft a Guard in the second round.. yet, that's what they did. And it was the second year in a row they used their first draft pick on an interior offensive lineman.

My point is that I don't know how relevant the previous patters are within the current model.

I find it very, very, VERY interesting that they didn't try to get Chase Young or Montez Sweat. It's one of the reasons I'm convinced they're going all in in FA for Hunter or whoever the other top Edge may be. They want to keep draft picks.

My assumption, based on history.. is they'll trade back. BUT... they have, I think, 11 picks this draft? Including likely comp picks? It might be 10.. that's a lot of picks already.. maybe they stay in place.. they could end up with 4 picks in the top 100 if Raheem gets a job.. that's a good start. I don't like that they have to wait til the 5th to pick again..so.. we'll see if they go backward in the 1st or second.

If they got even close to the amount of success with their first 3 picks that they did this year.. plus a good FA class.. they'll be cooking.

I don't think they've exploited anything, it's as simple as being very honest where you are, what's available and what you need to do to get to a level to compete at the highest tier.

So, where do they go?

The assumptions around here not a good measuring stick as most can't find their ass with their hands already on their hamstrings. Pretty obvious stuff and some will fight you tooth and nail and then cry foul when you point things out afterward or present numbers or facts that dispute the contrary.

Patterns are always relevant, in the business world for investments, in tactical planning, in NFL leadership, this is why they spend a lot of money on pattern recognition. Hell Michigan just got in trouble for having someone on their staff that did that exact thing in the Corps.

Honestly I think it's likely they will trade down unless a prospect they covet stat dropping. Is it a 100% they get a QB? No. But I feel this draft corps of QB's if one they like starts dropping in the teens they'll pull the trigger to move it and get him.

This is the year Snead will start building groups as a strength and complete unit as he's talked about many, many times in the past. OFC depending on what we do in FA.

I 100% feel he feels we will be targeting a legit LDE for instance to pair with AD and Turner in the middle to pair with Young and a FA/Draft pick on the other end to bottle up that front 5 which in our scheme is our engine that makes our scheme the most effective.

52. Los Angeles Rams: Ennis Rakestraw Jr., CB, Missouri​

One of the draft’s more physical corners, Rakestraw plays with the mentality and toughness to make plays against both pass and run. His injury feedback might directly impact where he is drafted, but the Rams could use a corner with his athleticism and compete skills.

Hate that pick of McCarthy. I'd take Penix every day of the week above him, and I might not even be ok with Penix here. McCarthy did not show that he is a franchise QB in college, as he wasn't asked too. He did what he was asked to do well, but, to me, I didn't see a special QB. Not to mention, we are trying to win the SB next season, taking a guy that hopefully wont see a snap next year with our first seems somewhat counter productive to the build.

Let someone else gamble on McCarthy.

The flaw in that thinking is leaving Ramsey out of the equation. They spent 1sts on a CB. When you have Ramsey, and don't have 1st round and sometimes 2nd round pick drafting a CB in the 3rd is a high pick.

I still like McCarthy, but I believe if the Rams extend Wentz I am fine waiting on QB and focusing on Edge or CB. I believe the Rams will sign an edge in free agency, so CB in round one and then go from there.
