As excited as I am for the 2023 season to roll around and see how we come out and perform and see how our players develop, to be honest with yourself 2024 was always the year to reload, recoup, and get right personnel and financial wise once again.

To give life to one of my favorite thread sections in the RoD forum let's take a look towards our prospects for 2024. Obviously a lot can change between now and next draft but this is one of my favorite and crucial parts of the organization under Les. Projection and scouting etc.

Upon looking at various sites we are projected to draft anywhere from 3-11 so far from what I've seen.

These are the two positions that seem to be deep in the upcoming draft right now:

T
G
RB
QB
ED

Decent to good mid level depth:

CB
WR
LB
TE

Arguably all positions of need and at marquee positions next year. I feel this has been our direction since January with even no minor trades.

I have a feeling depending where we are as proven by last draft will will try and package picks and move up for a top prospect at QB.

There could be 4 or 5 LT's that come into it with first round projections. Good year to need one potentially, that's if we don't need a QB.

Exactly! Life and success has a lot to do with correct timing and with those strong position group's ( especially LT and QB) we might end up with some valuable assets come this next draft season.

A few of those amazing Tackle prospects:

• Notre Dame’s Joe Alt: The junior could push Penei Sewell for the title of best offensive tackle prospect in the PFF College era.

• Penn State’s Olu Fashanu: The redshirt junior would’ve been one of the top tackles in the 2023 class if he had declared.

• Alabama’s JC Latham: The junior was the highest-rated offensive tackle recruit since 2015 and has lived up to the hype at right tackle, especially in pass protection.

It’s too early to make any sweeping declarations about the 2024 NFL Draft, given how much can change after the upcoming season. However, one thing should remain true: The offensive tackle class looks special.

Here are the 10 offensive tackle prospects to know as we head into summer scouting for the 2024 class.

JOE ALT, NOTRE DAME

Alt led all tackles in college football in overall grade (91.4) and run-blocking grade (91.0). He also placed sixth among Power Five tackles in pressure rate allowed (2.1%). He has a massive frame at 6-foot-8, 315 pounds and told me his wingspan is more than 7 feet. Alt looks like the best offensive tackle prospect since Penei Sewell.

OLU FASHANU, PENN STATE

Fashanu was a projected first-rounder in the 2023 NFL Draft but opted to return to get his master’s degree. Not only does he excel in the classroom, but he also excels in pass protection. His 84.7 pass-blocking grade ranked sixth among Power Five tackles, and he didn’t surrender a sack and allowed only one hit on 281 pass-blocking snaps. He does need to get meaner as a run blocker, something he told me he’s been focusing on this offseason. Fashanu is still only 20 years old despite being a redshirt junior.

JC LATHAM, ALABAMA

Latham was an elite pass blocker at right tackle for Alabama this past season as a sophomore. He earned an 84.5 pass-blocking grade on true pass sets, fourth among all tackles in college football. On 486 pass-blocking snaps, he allowed only one hit and didn’t give up a sack. He has excellent footwork in pass protection and just needs to develop better awareness as a run blocker. It remains to be seen whether he’ll stick at right tackle as a junior or move to the left side, as Evan Neal and Alex Leatherwood did.

GRAHAM BARTON, DUKE

Barton was the only Power Five tackle who posted 85.0-plus grades as both a pass blocker and a run blocker last season. His 17 big-time blocks (PFF’s highest-graded blocks) were five more than any other tackle in the country. Barton likely could’ve been a Day 2 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft had he declared. Instead, he enters his senior season as a projected first-rounder.

JONAH MONHEIM, USC

Monheim was one of four Power Five tackles to earn 80.0-plus pass- and run-blocking grades. Only Joe Alt was a more valuable tackle in 2022, according to PFF’s wins above average metric. Monheim totaled the most pass-blocking snaps in the country without allowing a sack or hit (570).

KINGSLEY SUAMATAIA, BYU

A five-star recruit in 2021, Suamataia transferred to BYU from Oregon this past season and flashed elite tools at right tackle. He earned an impressive 80.9 pass-blocking grade in 2022.

JAVON FOSTER, MISSOURI

Only Peter Skoronski posted a higher pass-blocking grade than Foster’s 86.7 mark this year among Power Five tackles. On 457 pass-blocking snaps against some of the best edge defenders in America, the redshirt senior gave up just a 3.5% pressure rate.

BLAKE FISHER, NOTRE DAME

Fisher has the requisite physical tools at 6-foot-6 and 310 pounds but needs to put it all together. He earned a 72.9 overall grade and a 68.9 pass-blocking grade at right tackle for Notre Dame. If he can improve his technique, specifically his hand usage, the Fighting Irish could have two tackles go in the first round.

ZION NELSON, MIAMI (FL)

Nelson was a projected first-rounder in many way-too-early mock drafts for both the 2022 and 2023 classes. He’s returning for a fifth season at Miami, which is also his fifth as the Hurricanes’ starting left tackle. In 2022, Nelson played just 61 snaps due to a knee injury. What made him such an intriguing prospect over the past few years was his smoothness in pass protection. Nelson’s 84.6 pass-blocking grade across the 2020 and 2021 seasons ranked ninth among Power Five tackles. If he can improve as a run blocker and stay healthy, he could reenter the first-round conversation.

AMARIUS MIMS, GEORGIA

So far, Mims' career arc is quite similar to that of Broderick Jones, the 14th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Both were top-10 recruits in their respective classes and spent their first two seasons as backup tackles. They each impressed in that role as sophomores before becoming a starter at left tackle as juniors. In 2022, Mims earned a 77.5 grade and didn’t allow a sack or hit on 184 pass-blocking snaps. He has the physical tools to become one of the top tackles in the class if he takes the next step as a starter like Jones did.

He looks very interesting as well Jonah Monheim from USC. I am always skeptical of smaller school/competition players, that said he does look very intriguing.

Imagine next year

Top LT 1st round/ Jackson/Draft or FA/ Avila/Havenstein

That would be a great Super Bowl setup right there.

I’d love to have Alt, and honestly, I think we have a good chance of getting him.

Honestly to me he’s the gem of the class, I just think we’ll not have a chance at him compared to where I think we’ll be and the area he’ll be drafted. Is it worth it to give up 2 firsts and a third or whatever for a LT? IDK but to have a solid LT for 10-15 years it just might be.

IDK if the others are near him at this point, going to be fun watching this season and seeing how things play out.

Yeah, if Alt’s not there, I’m going for Brock Bowers and Luther Burden III in rounds one and two. Higbee will likely be gone, Hopkins will definitely be gone, and Kupp will be thirty one. We need an elite tight end like Bowers and a true number two/potential number one receiver like Burden.

Can you fathom McVay with a Bowers? Lol

In the pff draft sim bowers is usually gone by our pick at 9.

AZ has back to back picks at 1 and 2 so they get a top QB and Harrison or bowers.

Sign me up for Emeka Egbuka if Alt is gone.

I think he’s secretly the best receiver on his team and I think he will be a better pro than Harrison. He fits the mold of receivers McVay likes too.

I don’t know anything admiringly about Emeka.

Just did a 2 round mock and had a big time LT drop to us. I think if we have one fail to them they run up to the podium.

Joe Alt?

No thanks. I’m still having nightmares about the last LT we drafted who was a converted TE…

Still praying to get Bowers.

Also, Kris Abrams-Draine and Ennis Rakestraw Jr. should be in the mid rounds for cornerback. If we want a tackle who can pass protect, Javon Foster (also Mizzou) had the best pass-protection rating other than Skowronski last year, and is a very good run blocker. He could be available in the second round.

Hell, most of Mizzou's secondary (also looking at Jaylon Carlies at strong safety and Joseph Charleston at free safety, as well as Daylon Carnell if he comes out - unlikely as it is, given that he's a redshirt sophomore.) could be drafted, along with Ty'Ron Hopper (linebacker who is on the watch list for basically every national linebacker award), and Theo Wease (former five star receiver transfer from Oklahoma) if he performs above expectations.

Either way, Mizzou is going to have a ton of representation at this year's draft.

My heart can't hope for anyone other then Caleb. Legitimately having a QB like Mahomes for the next 15 years improves every aspect of the offense, including the OL. His pocket presence would have made our OL look ok-ish last year even. That said, we would have to suck, and suck badly to get him, which would be very painful.

He's not a converted TE.
He's always been an OT and yet was athletic enough to also play TE. Big difference

Okay, if we're drafting, I'd probably go tight end in the first round. Probably not Bowers (if we're going where I hope we're going, he's go a lot higher than we pick). I made a mistake with Luther Burden; he's still only a true sophomore (and he's kicking major ass right now, please Rams draft him in 2025?), but KAD and ER are still available and will likely come out (have to come out in Abrams-Draine's case; he's a senior; Rakestraw is a redshirt junior), and I want them badly.

Given the caveat that week one means next to nothing, if the draft were tomorrow I’d be going edge.

Yes! That or LB. My skin crawls watching Rozebloom out there or knowing Reeder is back but that is better than having a side of the whole defense constantly collapsing in. Need someone who can hold contain and obvious other abilities!

Agree that LB is also potentially a big need. Take out Jones, and it’s looking thin, although hopefully someone can make their case this year.

Also think with this deep ass RB class we need to take one at least with Akers more than likely let walk, deep ass QB and OL class with DE on the other side. not sure about the LB and CB yet.

The QB depth is ridiculous along with the RB and OL depth this coming year.
