I agree but I will say this again - welcome back the Fisher days if that does happen where we pound the ball on the ground and hope that the defense holds them to 10 points or less.
I doubt it.
McVay's offense will never be a Fisher offense.
If #9 goes down, we're not scoring 30 per game but I doubt we'll just ground and pound or score only 13. I think McVay can put together an offense that scores 18-20 with the backups we have.

The phrase "embarrassment of riches" comes to mind.

Good lord, we have Garrett and Agent Zero on the edges, we have Kobie in the middle, might (probably IMO) have AD there too, and now might have a breakout year from Fiske?? Holy shit.

The biggest obstacle to getting snaps for some of our guys on D might be all the 3-n-outs they pitch.
It could happen. Year 3 is when the lights start to go on for a lot of these guys.
It was more a matter of his leg still being hurt. All reports are that he is healthy and will pick up where he left off in his first season.

I remember 2022.

Until Baker came - we sucked on offense once Stafford went down.

And Baker only played well in the Denver game. I will admit - he played great in that game.

2022 had a SIEVE Offensive Line. Didnt have WR Corps approaching ours now. Didnt have Running Backs that would make our RB2 now. Didnt have Tight Ends we have now.

That's all true but would McVay trust his backup to throw deep ins and outs. Not sure.

He may do quick slants and mostly run with his running backs.

With the defense he has - he could go conservative and just kick FGs instead of going for it on 4th down.

Maybe they do score 1 TD and 4 FGs - that's possible. Maybe I am too worried and they score a few TDs.

Very possible. I am not saying I am right. I am saying I am worried.

If Bennett or Simpson were starting the opener in Australia Rams would STILL be favored.

So what is your point, the Rams mismanaged/bungled the QB2 spot? Bungled the 13th pick? What?
Maybe bungled the QB2 spot but like I have said many times - Simpson will not be ready this year. But I could see him ready next year as the back-up. See my earlier posts on Simpson in other threads.

As to bungling the QB2 - they really didn't have a choice since what #2 is out there.

Again as I said before - I am worried if Stafford goes down. I could very well be wrong and Bennett steps up to the plate if Staff goes down.

Oh and I was against them drafting Bennett. I would have to look up what other QBs were in that draft.

I could swear a couple of them have become decent back-ups. Again I could be wrong and they suck as well.

I would have to look them up

Agreed. He had the 10th and 12th ranked defense in Washington, with Cousins at QB in 2015/2016. Cousins damn near put up 5k yards in McVay's last season there.

When McVay has someone to properly execute the offense, even if it's a dude who is limited, he's a good enough gameplanner and play caller to still get decent results. We're not going to win shit without Stafford. But we'd probably make the playoffs and maybe even win a game, before getting sent home by one of the complete teams.

Yeah, the offense was bad. They averaged 15.5 points per game if we're not counting the Mayfield games. That's still better than 13.

And nearly all circumstances were worse than what we have now. In 2022, our star WR was also on IR. As pointed out above by Coliseum, every offensive unit is better now.

Another difference would be the QBs. I like the upside of Bennett and Simpson over Wolford and Perkins.

But this is all immaterial. The general rule is, if you're starting QB misses 8 games, you're not winning the SB anyway, no matter how good your backup. (The obviuous great exception on backups is Warner.)

If we win this year, there will have to be some luck, especially pertaining to health.

Yeah they probably will do better than my exaggerated average of 13 points a game but I still feel we may have a rough time averaging 20 points.

Some of the teams on our schedule have really good defenses.

I could see scoring only 13 against some of those teams with Bennett as QB.

For example - we only scored 14 points against Houston last year and we had a healthy offense against them.

I get you're worried, but why? If Stafford misses a ton of games, we'll all need to lower our expectations for this season, whether we have a better #2 or not.

I think most of these back ups are over rated. There are at most 3 or 4 that aren't bad.

I hear you!

IF we win with a #2, it won't be because the #2 is great. It will be because we have a defense rivaling the greatest defenses of all time. This is provided AD comes back. This is the most realistic path to still winning.
