DeShaun Watson has an $81 million cap hit next year. Also how does this extension make him not request a trade again next year?

Gotta say he's full of shit. If he truly wanted to go somewhere to win, he would have held out. He caved to the money hence money outweighs winning. This is why taking these talks to the media makes players look like fools if they don't follow through although he's now an even richer fool :laugh1:
If he held out he would just have to stay anyway. And if he held out and came back just to accrue the season he'd still have to be there for 2 years. And then they would tag him the 3rd year lol.

For the same reason the browns called his bluff this year. They have team control of his contract. Nothing he can do really.

I get confused around here some say players have all the leverage and can force trades or not accept trades and some say the teams have all the control. I wish we'd settle on how it works. :D

There were exchanges early-on in this thread about whether Garrett really wanted to play for a contender, or was it more of a money-play.

Of course there are always exceptions but it usually is as simple as ...

Haha yeah I think players only have control when they're on the last year of their deal. Because they can veto a trade by not agreeing to a contract. But if they have more than one year then it's really up to the team.

Maybe you are right or wrong, but he caved and did it quickly. If he was truly done with the Browns like he kept claiming he was, he would have held out regardless of what you are stating. I've yet to see any athlete with the balls to do this though honestly. I doubt most teams would hold on to someone who truly followed through. Doing so would have caused the situation to be viewed as holding a player hostage which in turn would have started a media shit storm around the team. Would have been interesting (since its not us) to see that play out.

Yeah he folded fast lmao but last I heard the browns basically couldn't trade him anyways because they'd be a wasteland due to his dead money. So I think they told him they were gonna hold firm.

Doesn't make sense but ok.

By the way I'm saying not sure since I'm not sure how it would have played out like you are saying. I would however be laughing at the Browns for being in a "Browns" type of situation lol

Does this mean Verse could be worth potentially $50M a year in 3 seasons when he can be extended? This shit is getting fucking crazy. How many fucking playoff games has Garrett won since he's been there? He knows this team ain't doing shit as long as Watsons contract is on the books and he lied like a little bitch about wanting to win above all else. His legacy will be money, and nothing else.

I would respect an athlete much more if he was like look, I want to win but this franchise hasn't shown me that. Either trade me to a winner or pay me a lot more to stay here and suffer. If he said that, wouldn't the reactions be different?
