Improving the DL automatically improves the ILBs. A good chunk of our problem is subpar DL run stopping play. It's not just the ILBs that have disappointed there.
Yes, we've got guys who love to get into the backfield, every play; problem is, sometimes the RB has already past the LOS. Without excellent ILB's who can shed blocks, this works against us. Somebody gotta stay home & mind the store.

Exactly. And the people who are supposed to be minding the store - Brown, Gallimore, and Davis - aren't doing a very good job.

Murch back on the roster as well. Wonder how the DL rotation is going to go.

Moving DL around right now is like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. It might make them feel good but it's not going to address the basic problem that we don't have a fucking NT. Now they can play Turner there but then you have a hole at 3T or 5T or wherever you moved him from.

Trusting in Brown is what put us in this situation. I knew that would happen, and so I hoped prior to the season that Davis would end up with that role, but he's still settling in and the DL room as a whole simply does not have an answer to eat double teams. And I doubt that is going to change.

So the only hope for this DL is for everyone to improve across the board. And that's only going to get us so far. There will be some games where they can control the LOS, and they need to succeed in those matchups. But the matchups vs top OL are probably going to remain ugly.

Also there is the possibility that we get improvement at ILB if Speights can play. But we have to wait for our rookie DC to get pissed enough to make the change.

wait -- we're a 3-4 D with no NT?? A.Robinson filled that role for us at one point.
BBIII not stepping up has really exacerbated this issue. Davis could maybe play this role as a fill-in, but we're going to stay as a 3-4, we gotta get that big body right there in the middle.

Say switch to 4-3 use two DT and DE and then you don't need a 350lb NT
4-3 requires ends that can take on OTs in the run game and contain/rush on pass downs. So long bodied types with power. OLBs are easier to find.

Right now only Verse has the right tools to do that. So we have only one end for a 4-3. It's the same issue we're missing at 5T. What makes a 4 man front work vs 5 OL is penetration into the backfield and strength across the four to include ends that are hard to move. We just don't have the tools for that.

What they could do is try Verse at 5T on early downs and playing one of the other ends in his spot on the edge. That allows Turner to play the nose, which isn't ideal but, well, nothing we're gonna do at this point will be ideal.
