Indy would never bite but I'd offer them a 1 for 1 swap with Akers. Then see what they ask for to sweeten the pot just to see if I can be in the right place at the right time.

But of course the problem is that this year is probably a wash for us regardless. Taylor doesn't make us a contender and would almost surely move on after the season.

Respectfully disagree. I think with JJ3 back, he makes us stronger on the back end and Jonathan Taylor is that next tier above Akers, who I like.

Look at the offensive efficiency after CMC joined the 9ers.

If we could get JT in a swap for Akers and some nominal additions on our part, I think we do contend… heck, I think we’re gonna be that dark horse that wrecks a lot of other team’s chances as we vie for a WC spot.

I’m sure our team can come up with something for him tbh if this was even a scenario. The goal is to be peaking with talent past next years draft for a SB run for AD and Staffords last hu-rah.

My biggest doubt and I’m sure our scouting dept. has confirmed this is as well but next year the top 10 Rb’s look crazy good compared to most years.

Might make more sense top take a top 10 RB and not pay Cam, get a comp pick for him.

Yeah but now you're talking about potential vs a proven back. Taylor is a stud already. Wherever he plays this year, dude will ball out. His biggest hurdle is still what he wants in a contract.

Every single person is potential. How many times have we seen us sign someone in the past and they fall off a cliff?

Doesn’t mean it couldn’t happen with Taylor too.

RB is the easiest position to adapt to and produce right away in the NFL. It’s supply and demand and they are at a plethora.

But this FO has proven, with actions this year, the proven commodity route has run its course and its time to restock on young, cheap, and many years in their career talent. I have a feeling McSnead likes the idea of everything this team needs top tier, next draft there is a bounty of.

It’s time to get the youngins identified and given experience this year and season the roster next year with game ready talent draft picks and a few FA’s.

Taylor is still pretty young too, he's 24 years old. I would argue that they aren't a plethora of RBs of Taylor's caliber. This offense wants to run the ball, Taylor has the size that Cam had to bulk up to and is a home run threat. Sounds like someone named Gurley to me. If RBs are dime a dozen, why haven't we replaced Gurley so easily? Although Taylor is a way better fit than Cam in my opinion, I do have to agree that its more unlikely than likely we go after him. There are many questions about draft compensation, type of contract Taylor wants, and the Rams plans for building the team that may not align. So far the Rams have indeed shown they are going the cheaper and prudent path of adding to the team. My guess is they are following the NFL trend of devaluing the position. Honestly sucks to see that as we traditionally have had some great running backs throughout our storied history.

Taylor has been a stud behind a really good (if not great) offensive line. Not sure he's that much of an improvement behind a line that's still evolving
He's more likely to take advantage of those runs than Akers would when the line does block. I think he's definitely better than Akers, however, the problem lies in cost and draft compensation. The Rams current spending spree shows they are bargain bin shopping this year while saving money for the future. Gotta imagine that means holding on to our draft picks too.

I don't disagree with you one bit.

McVay's offense runs through the run game first and foremost.

I feel we been in need of a premier runner for McVay's offense for how many drafts now? Every year i talk about moving up and snagging one? That's an important piece and McVay even said they tried this year to go up and take one of those RB's in the draft interviews after the 1st round.

Why haven't we replaced an All-Pro League and Offensive MVP?
Zach Evans - 6th
Kyren Williams - 5th
Jake Funk - 7th
Darrell Henderson - 3rd
John Kelly - 7th
Sam Rodgers - 7th

Todd Gurley - 1st Round 10th overall pick

I don't know if you the hit rate differential between 7th, 6th, 5th round picks compared to a top 10 in a draft pick? it's rather substantial.

However, out of all those RB's I'd argue they were the worst RB they could have picked up on the board because I've cringed every time the drafted any of them outside of Kyren Williams and Evans.

You really should take a look at the RB's coming out next year-

They are stupid good and likely going to be some beasts still from rounds 2-4 to be had. Guarantee our FO is looking heavily at that.

Good info so thanks on that part. Problem with that approach is if a guy like Bijian Robinson or Jahmyr Gibbs does well, I can see teams drafting RBs a bit higher than usual as well. Also doubt we are picking a top one in the first or even 2nd round (although 2nd round is plausible based on what happens this year). Also, I wonder if there are any other positions that are deep in the 24 draft that we may look to pivot towards vs a running back since we seem to be going more towards drafting one later in the draft lately.

So other positions that are top heavy and deep are QB, Edge, and Tackle (many good LT’s) Honestly, I’d like and wouldn’t cry if we get a top tier LT or QB next year, and have a feeling we could trade up for one.

plenty of top end cheap RB’s in the 3rd and 4th and if we can get 2 RB’s making a 1/3 of what a star RB makes with almost the same production why wouldn’t we do that?

Although the one caveat is having a RB available like TG30 which is rare and usually go in the top 15 anyways.

I really feel after this next season with Staffords slight contract friction we’ll trade up to get a QB. I doubt we’ll have the ability to get Maye or Caleb but maybe somebody like Bo Nix, Pennix Jr, or Ewers. Although I’d obviously love one of those top two. I think they are going to be special and excel with the proven abilities I value for my QB.

Pretty good video to explaining the current RB process and pay scale etc.

Disclaimer: I’m by far a bigger fan of the premier back being a former RB, that and the LB positions are the ones I pay the most attention to. Love Todd Gurleys more than a 2-3 back system.

I don’t see how Torrence II outperformed Le Counte, but ok
I wasn't laser focused on the game, but happened to notice LeCounte struggling in coverage. I don't think either were going to make the roster anyway. I kind of think the DBs room is set as far as who makes the roster.

I am shocked we've only seen this one after that defensive performance.
