Sentiment is we can't depend on drafting rookie starters in 2023. We may not. Or we may. One example from 2022 that shows it's possible is the World Champs.

Just to make sure, they compare somewhat to the Rams of 2023, the Chiefs lost Tyreek Hill (111 rec), Byron Pringle (42 rec) Darrell Williams (47 rec) and Demarcus Robinson (25 rec). That's 225 receptions out the door. To add to their woes, Edwards-Helaire missed 7 games in 2022. On defense they lost DE Melvin Ingram (9 starts), DT Jarren Reed (17 starts), CB Charvarius Ward (12 starts), S Tyrann Mathieu (16 starts), LB Anthony Hitchens (15 starts).

Their draft?

CB Trent McDuffie (#21) 11 GS
DE George Karlaftis (#30) 17 GS

WR Skyy Moore (#54) 3 GS
S Bryan Cook (#62) 1 GS
LB Leo Chenal (#103) 8 GS
CB Joshua Williams (#135) 4 GS

T Darian Kinnard (#145) 0 GS
CB Jaylen Watson (#243) 6 GS
RB Isiah Pacheco (#251) 11 GS

S Nazeeh Johnson (#259) 0 GS

You'd expect contributions from first round picks and they got them. But 29 GS from slot #103 to #251? And 4 of those draft picks played 41% or more of the SB snaps. McDuffie (100%), Karlaftis (51%), Pacheco (47%), Watson (41%). 3 others played 24% (Chenal), 25% (Moore) and 36% (Williams) of SB snaps. We'd have to admit the Chiefs suffered some roster losses prior to the 2022 and depended heavily on 6 of their rookies, even more by the time the SB came around.

So the Rams can't do that? Suffer a number of losses by starters (6 players) and have a decent draft getting some contributors? We don't have any first round picks but #36 might produce a starter. And then we have 8 picks between where the Chiefs took Cook and Watson. #69, #77, #167, #171, #177, #182, #189, #191. <<<< Hell we've got 6 picks from the bottom of the 5th through the mid 6th (14th pick of the round). And of course we can hope Snead packages one of them with our 2nd or one of our thirds to move down slightly and pick up a 4th round pick, in the vicinity of #108-#122.

There's a lot of time before we get there....time to sign a free agent or two.....then after the draft sign another free agent or two.

Yeah, I don't get the whole "AD clone" stuff. No one has ever been like AD, and probably no else will ever be like him in the future. Dude is a freak of nature.
I think he is more of a "Mini" Donald

It's a size comparison 6'1, 285 lbs and the fact he played at Pitt. Admittedly, I haven't seen more than one Pitt game all season but he is highly touted. Doesn't have the college production of AD but still nothing to sneeze at. He's quick and pressures the QB.

Although I didn't see the games, I did watch replays and he is nowhere close to Donald's ability coming out of college

Although he would be a good 3rd down guy on pass plays, he will need to seriously bulk up to hold up against bigger OGs in the pros on running plays.

Not really. Kancey doesn't have AD's upper and lower body strength. He's an athletic freak who will deservingly go in the first round, especially since Jalen Carter is utterly bombing his draft stock, but he's not even a "mini" AD, and it isn't fair to either of them to compare them to one another.

Random bored mock draft.

Anybody familiar with Kobie Turner from WF? He starting to look like a nice compliment to place next to AD.

I'd take Kobie Turner in the 5'th in an instant, although I'm sticking with DL Adetomiwa Adebawawore in the 2'nd round for now.

I've been a little different in my approach, player-wise, but I have mad respect for trading back to get as many top-150 picks in this draft as possible.
You could easily have 4 guys there who start games as rookies.. not including the kicker.

My goal with this draft was to restock the defense and to address the biggest issue, imo, on the offense.
I went heavy on corners.. and think that the three picked here could be the Rams top three corners next year.

Problem with that simulator is that it thinks we get a 4th rd comp pick at 136... we do not have that pick

I think that term is so overused it's crazy. Bijan is a fine back but he is also a product of usage. He can do a bit of everything too, to his credit. But he's not rare or sudden, he's gonna be a strong bell cow for some lucky team which is not something you draft really high.

I'm referring to mocks that had him top ten and whatnot too here. I'll bet Gibbs is off the board before him.
I'd take that bet. And yes, the term is overused, but not by me. He's very special IMO and, if he stays healthy, has potential to be a top 3 back in league.

Yeah, before every mock I trade 136 and 210 to KC for 167 and 177 . It makes it more accurate.

Oof.. I missed that..
I'll just not use it in trades and ignore whomever I pick in evaluating the class.

Thanks.

You don't need to be a highly picked RB to be a top 3 guy in the NFL. All that would mean is that he's in a good offense where they hand him the ball and best-utilize his skills. Like he has currently in college.

But watching his tape the guy does everything well I just don't think he is special. He has been put up there near the top of round 1 like he is special. He has been talked about like he is special. But in each phase of his game he is good not great, except for production which is certainly valuable and I would love to see us take him if he is there, however as we are talking about which RB goes off the board first I don't think he is the slam dunk everyone sells him as.

So yeah, if he goes top ten feel free to roast me on this. If he even goes before Gibbs do the same. Because I figure NFL teams are seeing what I'm seeing, it just hasn't filtered to the media nutsacks yet. Could be way wrong though, and wouldn't be the first time.
