Atlanta Falcons 2022 ROD Mock Draft Selections
Offensive needs - WR, RB, QB, IOL, RT Defensive needs - Edge, S, DT
Kyle Hamilton, S, Notre Dame (Rd 1 pick #8)
I felt Edge and WR were the two biggest needs for the Falcons. I really wanted to take Jermaine Johnson III here but I felt I'd be reaching. I also felt the WR class was so deep that I could hold off until the 2nd or 3rd round. I told myself going into this draft, don't reach, let the picks fall to me, best player available. So, with most analysts seeing Kyle Hamilton as one of the best and most complete prospects in the class I had to go with him for the Falcons first pick.
Matt Corral, QB, Ole Miss (Rd 2 pick #43)
With the Falcons trading Matt Ryan away, QB was another big need for the Falcons. I didn't feel I should pull the trigger at #8 for any of this years QBs but if any one of my top four, Pickett, Willis, Corral, or Ridder, were still on the board in the 2nd round at #43 I'd feel great about taking one.
Drake Jackson, DE, USC (Rd 2 pick #58)
Jackson being available here made me feel better about passing up on Jermaine Johnson III in the 1st round.
Kenneth Walker III, RB, Michigan State (Rd 3 pick #74)
I was targeting Alec Pierce here but with the best RB in the draft (my opinion) still on the board in the 3rd round, the value was just too good to pass up.
Alec Pierce, WR, Cincinnati (Rd 3 pick #82)
I was hoping either Pierce or Logan Hall would make it past the seven picks since my last pick.. Cleveland took Hall at pick 81 (great value) but Alec made it through! (I also woke up at 4 am to make this pick)
Max Mitchell, OT, Louisiana (Rd 4 pick #114)
Was really hoping for Edge rusher Nick Bonitto to keep falling or that Luke Goedke for the Oline would be available but MadGoat nabbed 'em both near the end of the 3rd. So I went with Mitchell on the Oline. Filled a need and pretty good value.
Noah Ellis DT - Idaho (Rd 5 pick #151)
At 6-foot-4 and 359 pounds, his frame alone makes it hard to not key in on him when watching film. But what sets him apart, and why scouts have slowly begun to move him up draft boards, is his knack for plugging gaps in the run with an improving prowess to push the pocket on late downs. Out in Las Vegas at the East-West Shrine Bowl, Elliss was a constant in the opposing offense's backfield during team drills, but where he shined most was in one-on-ones—the All-Big-Sky was unblockable throughout the week. While stymying a 350-pound athlete is a difficult task in and of itself, one that can move both vertically and laterally in the way that Elliss does has forced NFL teams to flip on his film during his days as a Vandal to truly identify how impactful a defender he could be on Sundays.
Justin Shaffer G - Georgia (Rd 6 pick #190)
More Oline help this time on the inside
Calvin Austin III WR - Memphis (Rd 6 pick #213)
Couldn't pass up 2nd round talent in the 6th round.
With so many similarities to Tavon Austin with his size and speed and everyone saying he's a gadget guy,
I can see why he fell so far in the ROD draft.
