With the 237th pick of the 2022 ROD NFL Mock Draft, The New Orleans Saints select:

ZACH THOMAS
SDSU, OG
6-foot-5
308 pounds

20201113_football_sdsu_v_hawaii_dtuskan_0580.jpg

Strengths

  • Gets everything out of his adequate size and frame with good length. Added bulk to his frame and flashes functional strength to get a good push in the run game.
  • Dips shoulder and moves his feet to get outside leverage when needed. Strong and low coming out of his stance, effective in short-yardage situations.
  • Good natural athleticism, knee bend and fluid lateral movement to mirror college defensive ends.
  • Plays with appropriate wide base and intelligence, instincts and agility to seal the edge. Aggressive extending with power to punch and looks comfortable in space.
  • Anchors against larger defenders in the middle; resets hands to maintain distance. Athletic enough to help on nose tackle then pick up twist or late blitzer. Mirrors quick interior rushers. Looks to help the center when uncovered.

Weaknesses

  • Loses leverage battles and plays with high pad level. Can be late off the snap.
  • Limits ability to mirror by leaning forward with his upper body and neglecting his lower body. Not strong enough and remains rough around the edges.
  • He's athletic and a pure left tackle whose high-hipped frame and waist bending might be exposed against pro pass rushers.
  • Not a natural knee-bender and gets too upright. Needs to play with better leverage and stay balanced through contact.
  • Not physically imposing and has average overall strength. Upper body gets over his feet too often and he easily loses his balance.

With Pick #238, the Los Angeles Rams take FS PERCY BUTLER, La.

7'th round developmental FS and a Special Teams demon, likely the top S.T.'s Gunner in this draft.

I'm not placing a higher emphasis on a Safety as I believe Tyrann Mathieu will become a free agent acquisition shortly after the draft.

@den-the-coach is ready to rumble ... and
@TK42-RAM is in the rumble seat

@ScotsRam hasn't posted in the thread since Thursday last week - so can we get some nominations for Pittsburgh's final selection?

Thus far they they have selected WR, QB, OL, DL ... additional needs may be at LB and Safety..

Any suggestions ?

There are some decent safeties left. I'd suggest - YUSUF CORKER, KENTUCKY, S

Kentucky safety Yusuf Corker enters the NFL draft process after a lengthy and successful career with the Wildcats. He came to Kentucky as a 4-star recruit as both a receiver and defensive back and has closed his career with 50 games played and 37 consecutive starts for the Wildcats. Corker has most frequently been implemented as the boundary safety in Kentucky’s two-high shells, but he was charged with late rotation and pushed to play the high post intermittently and he fulfilled that role fairly well throughout the course of his career for the collegiate level. I don’t think Corker has the kind of coverage ability to do the same at the NFL level, but his role as a strong safety and his ability to step down and fill the run will make him someone who could potentially, with further development, be a box defender. At the very least, his experiences against the run and filling to tackle make him a viable special teams candidate at the NFL level. I didn’t see high-level athleticism from Corker relative to his peers in this year’s class, but I have little doubt that you could put Corker on the coverage units and he could get down the field plenty quickly to help cover kicks.

Hold The Fort!

This sucks. So there's a "Zach Tom", and "Zach Thomas" in this same draft, and they're both offensive lineman?

How does this happen?

I wanted to draft "Zach Thomas" earlier. But, I saw "Zach Tom" listed as being picked in the 4th. I thought it was a typo in our draft, so I didn't pick "Zach Thomas".

Now @MadGoat goes and gets him half way through the seventh??? :explode1:

This sucks I tell yah! My whole draft is now just a picece of crap...And again, FML!

I take no pleasure in this.
