New stars don’t always have to be drafted let alone drafted in the first round.
No, but you need picks to get them outside of an OBJ situation or a FA signing. And yes you need to get some cheap high end labor eventually. Can't always count on expensive FAs.

Well, first off I recall you tearing last yrs draft apart... So nice to see you have more patience now.

Anyway, when you look at this past yrs team and their SB run, who led the charge?

To me the guys that made it happen were...

Donald
Stafford
Kupp
Beckham
Miller
Ramsey

All first round picks except for Kupp.

Even the supporting cast of key guys who stepped up at various times, like Robinson, Akers, Jefferson, Michel, Floyd, Havenstein, and Whitworth, were either first or 2nd round picks.

Sure, other late round guys stepped up, like Jones, Gaines, Scott, Williams, Noteboom, Blanton, etc... However, you need those top dogs to lead the way and unfortunately eventually they will be gone.

So by either trade or draft, you need to get some new blood in that lead pack. The 01' Rams never were able to do that. As age and injuries hit, few new stars arrived. You still win with stars.

So just saying at some point you don't need eight 3rd day picks every year. Package them in trades for players or higher picks with a better shot of getting a higher quality player.
Sure, the Snead strategy requires trading 1sts and other high picks for proven stars while filling out the rest of the roster with gems found in 3rd round through UDFA’s.

But this is sustainable. When current stars get older and retire then Rams can simply use other high picks to trade for still other proven stars. This could be an endless process.

I foresee a roster with a constant 6-8 stars on it by using this restocking method.

The key to success is Snead’s continued selection of gems later in draft, shrewd FA signings, AND McVay and his asst coaches excellence in quickly developing these later round annual additions. Any break in that 3 link chain will be disastrous. But without breaks it could go on and on and on…

Probably sustainable for getting to the play-offs for awhile, although once in a lifetime type players like Aaron Donald eventually require replacing, as will our QB, and they'll likely need restoring with multiple #1 draft picks. jmo.

I think Philly is right to an extent. But I also don't think Snead is locked into only this draft strategy. He can switch gears when he feels the timing is right.

The problem I have with the quote above is that in order to have those 6-8 stars, you need a bunch more 1st and 2nd round picks than just one per draft. AND you have to be able to resign all those stars at star level contracts.

I think our current strategy is sustainable to a point. But at some point you have to sprinkle in a few high end rookies on cheap contracts.

Or at least I think I think because Snead seems to have written his own set of rules.

Honestly I think this strategy of roster building maintains as long as AD99 is on the team. Generational talents obviously don't come along very often and while we have somebody like him that changes the game all by himself and makes the others in the front 7 better just by being on the field. I'm not sure how somebody can honestly think this roster management is something they won't be flexible with. Honestly unless they luck into another guy like him with him still on the team a rebuild of sorts will likely happen. They're either going to get incredibly lucky or have to spend 1st round picks for a few years trying to get that kind of game changer.

I hope Buffalo fucking sucks next season and Von ends up back on the trade block.
Nah they're going to be amazing no doubt especially with a healthy Von. I think they should arguably be the SB favorite.

He made his decision, it is what it is. Ill take A Rob and Wagz as a consolation for sure. But just crazy to hear Von say when he flew out to Buffalo to sign his deal he was going to tell them he changed his mind and is staying in LA.

Pushed by his agent and Dadto take the money. Once your already rich you might as well follow your heart.
Make a decision and live with it. I just hope he was crystal clear-minded that he will never see that $120m over 6 years when he made that decision. The YouTube video made it look like the agent/dad we’re pushing the $120m hook hard.

Well regret is a bitch. I don't feel for the guy. You're an adult and made a choice to chase that money even tho our team offers a better chance at return to the SB. Can Buffalo make it to the SB? Sure they can but the AFC is much more of a gauntlet than the NFC. Enjoy the cold ass winter!

So a signing cancels the top comp pick, got it
An equal signing. Miller getting 20M cancels Robinson's 14M signing.

Had the Rams signed a much lesser player for 6M, then that would cancel a 6th that we gained for losing a guy like Williams or whoever we lost for 6th.

Normally the Miller deal would get us a 3rd, but the 10 yr thing limited Miller to a 5th. Had it been a 3rd it still would have been cancelled due to a somewhat equal gain offsetting his loss.

From what I can see, only one player has won rings with three separate teams (LB Matt Millen - Raiders (XV, XVIII), 49ers (XXIV), and Washington (XXVI)), so Von may be prioritizing that piece of history as well as the money. I don't blame him, just wish he was still in LA.

IMO Buffalo is the team to beat in the AFC. Right now they look to have the most complete roster on both sides of the ball. The Rams could end up facing them in the next SB.

It sounds like his family urged him to take the extra guaranteed money on what will probably be his final contract. I for one won't fault him for doing it. But without those personal pressures, I think he would have stayed.

Can never chastise a guy for taking the money. Just don't say "it's not about the money".

Interesting angle about the Millen record. The next best thing to winning a Superbowl with three different teams is winning 3 Superbowls. My first priority would be where do I have the best chance to win another. Put that on the bulletin board......Von Miller doesn't believe the Rams can repeat!

Nah. What’s the glory is tying Matt Millen? It’s all about the Benjamin’s.
