Looks like nearly $19 Million guaranteed.

From what I read he still might get cut, which means he could sign anywhere for the vet min and still get the bulk of his $19M from Cleveland. Same thing Bortles did. He was still getting $5-6M from Jax while the Rams were only paying him $1M.

So sure, not likely, but an interesting long shot...and I don't even like him, but he might get you a decent future pick.

I'd absolutely love Baker as our backup, no question about it. And, honestly, it might be a possibility. With the Hag's resigning their back up Geno to a considerable sum (for a back up), unless they are off Lock altogether, they are probably out. Carolina seems like the only chance for Baker right now to be a day 1 starter. With that said, why not go to an elite coaching staff that has a good chance of getting you a ring for a year and see who needs a starting QB next season? It would certainly make me feel better about our back up situation.

Things moving fast. I'm a little behind.

Read some reports in niner circles his starting spot is $25m a year and it goes up the longer he's gotta wait or some shit like that.

It has to be hard to give Debo a big guaranteed contract when it's like half his game is as a running back. A lot of his passes are short routes. Glad it's a Whiners problem. This is the last year of his contract. A 3-4 year extension sounds reasonable in $21M range. He may price himself out of the Whiners.

An average at or near $25MM-per-season would also fall in line with what had recently been reported Samuel’s next contract would look like. Anything above $21MM would rank him ahead of other recently re-signed receivers D.J. Moore, Chris Godwin and Mike Williams.

The NFL is a strange league in that because it is such a team game, it's hard to give up huge money to one player, no matter how special they are outside of the QB position. We see that now with Tyreke Hill & Deebo. Two special players, but replaceable in terms of getting more roster help for the cost of one player.

The key about the Rams is they have two guys, outside of the QB, that legitimately deserve huge money and play positions where you can be productive for a long time when you consider Ramsey could eventually move to S as he gets older. Abd of course Donald could end up playing DT at a high level for 10 yrs or more, so he still has a few yrs left.

Kupp is interesting, he is special and maybe more well rounded than Hill, but if you had the give him $30M per, I think you would have to move on.

So I often thought it might be better to have 3 good players in a position group vs 1 top 5 guy that costs huge money...even with Donald I wondered that, but he ended that thought in regards to him with the way he played in the playoffs.

I love that they can’t sign Deebo because they’re on the hook for Jimmy G…LAWL

Nice post. You have to wonder about teams overpaying for a star player other than a QB and a pass rusher. There is a lot to digest when it comes to all the off-season moves. There are a lot of good WRs playing. Supply and demand should keep prices down except when teams like Miami overpay.

Ramsey was a good signing. Good CBs are hard to find. I don't think he is great. I do like how physical he is. I wonder if teams will be testing him deep more this year. He has shown that WRs can separate from him.

If you could only pick one Ramsey or Kupp who would you choose?

Good thing the Rams don't have to choose. Kupp will earn every penny he gets paid. I think he will do a reasonable deal with the Rams.

AD will earn every penny too. I hope he is reasonable but, he could put a big dent in the Rams cap.

The Rams are on a roll that should keep going for a couple more years.

Sounds still like speculation, but it sort of makes sense.

Jadeveon Clowney expected to re-sign with Cleveland Browns

Jadeveon Clowney waited until April 15 to sign with the Cleveland Browns in 2021 and he made a huge impact on the defense. While the free-agent edge defender remains unsigned, it seems history could repeat itself in 2022.

Clowney, age 29, has a history of taking a slower approach to free agency. Recovering from an injury two years ago, he didn’t sign with the Tennessee Titans until September 2020. While he likely won’t be waiting around that long this time around, he has left many fans wondering if he would return to Cleveland.

This is a player the organization badly wants to add back to the fold. They pursued him in 2020 and finally brought him in for the 2021 season. He made exactly the impact the coaching staff hoped for, proving to be a great complement opposite of Myles Garrett.

With quarterback Deshaun Watson now on the team and potentially avoiding a suspension in 2022, Cleveland is taking an all-in approach this season that NFL insiders believe will result in a reunion with the 6-foot-5 defensive end.

ESPN’s Tony Grossi shared that he expects Clowney to re-sign with the Browns this offseason. Notably, he doesn’t believe Jarvis Landry returns to Cleveland.

The organization currently has $19 million in cap space and will have even more savings whenever a Baker Mayfield trade happens. With money not an issue, it only seems like a matter of time until Clowney is back on the roster.

Sounding more like "Cleveland has $19 million in cap space and would have even more savings *if* a Baker Mayfield trade happens..."
If Carolina trades for Garoppolo & Seattle decides to rebuild, who would even want him at that point? I'd think the Browns would be looking to have Landry back before Clowney so their new toy actually has weapons to throw to.
I honestly cant see why a team would trade for Baker, at any price. He's not exactly a bridge QB who'd you'd play for a season while a rookie QB drafted "learns the ropes", he's not a player that puts a team "over the top", and given he's in the last year of his deal he wants to sign a monster extension so he's not the guy you build the franchise around

Well Mayfield did play all but two games with an injured shoulder. I don’t think last years performance is indicative of what he could be. Maybe a change of scenery and not getting the big contract will humble him and cause him to grow up and work hard.

Either way it seems likely that he gets released.

.

There's no guarantee that Watson will be allowed to play at the beginning of the season. The Browns should keep Mayfield until they know Watson can play.

Well, he has a big contract for this year at near 19 mill and for sure would be looking for one after this season. Like @kurtfaulk said, may as well keep him until Watson situation is wrapped up if no team wants to trade for him. Releasing him does nothing to save Cap space, so why bother

Probably so, being the last year of his original deal. In his 3 seasons, he's averaged 60 receptions, 8 TDs, and 1000yds across 3 fairly consistent seasons.

In 2019 A.J. Brown signed a 4 year, $5,652,368 contract with the Tennessee Titans, including a $2,130,812 signing bonus, $2,882,738 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $1,413,092.

In 2022, Brown will earn a base salary of $3,986,000, while carrying a cap hit of $4,518,703 and a dead cap value of $532,703.

Players under contacting holding out for a new, better contract. Come on...

Don't like it at all. Owners need to clamp down on this sort of behaviour. Players should have to sit if they don't want to play under the deal they signed. If they are then cut for not playing under their deal, they should be inegligible to re-sign elsewhere until they would have otherwise became free agents.

Like in any industry, the absolute rain makers have the leverage to get special treatment (AD99, Mahomes, etc). But AJ Brown? Deebo? Get out of here...

I fully support players going after every cent they can. Why should pro athletes bargain less aggressively than in other industries? Especially considering the short length of their careers and how they put their bodies on the line, risking life altering injury. But when you sign a contact via the competitive negotiation process, you should have to honour it - or, alternatively, don't get paid. Salaries increasing with inflation is beyond foreseeable at the time of contract negotiations. You cannot tell me the parties did not contemplate it. Inform you negotiation strategy accordingly. I am sure the very reason some of these monster deals are getting signed is because the owners are thinking "well, in X years, it won't be as bad a deal anymore". Jokes on them, I guess, if players can just demand a new contact whenever they see fit...

If Mayfield got cut, would be interesting if McVay would consider doing the same thing he did with Bortles?
I think so. I remember back before Mayfield was drafted there was a story of how McVay and Mayfield happened to be on the same flight and they basically hung out and talked ball or whatever. McVay's a rockstar with these young players. So yeah I could see that. In fact I think it's likely, where Mayfield would want to do that but unfortunately some team like the 9ers would probably throw more money at him.

Cleveland eats high picks every year and shits them out into the burning trash can out back. I don't think Mayfield is a terrible dude, in fact I think he's just like Watson young and dumb and learning some shit the hard way. I would love to see him as a backup here.
