If G-string were on any other team (minus Squaks and Cheats) I’d give him his due as an above average to good NFL QB. But any 69er is on my shit list. Plus I can’t stand his stupid shit eating grin and adoration by the media because he’s “good looking”. F you Jimmy til you move on - then good luck as I may need you as my #2 fantasy QB.

Jimmy GQ has had the benefit of an offense tailored to his skill set. That offense wants to run the ball and use the short, controlled passing game. They have a couple guys who are good at yards after catch when they take the short pass. Deebo's 50 yard touchdown against the Rams in the NFCCG was caught at or near the line of scrimmage. They live on the quick outs and slants.

Put him in a different offense and things could get ugly. Shanahan did not want him the throw down field very often. He tends to make mistakes in that area. And he didn't want JG to throw 30 times. That is when the offense tends to bog down. If he goes to a team who doesn't employ that type of offense I can see him struggling big time.

I visited a Niners Fans Board the other day, and read some of a thread about Trey Lance.

There's a discussion between half-a-dozen fans about whether S.F. gave-up two or three #1s for Lance.

The basis for the argument ... and it is a real argument over there ... is that since the 49ers moved-up to #3 to draft Lance, they received a first round pick. So, the trade was three #1s for one #1; and that 'nets' to two #1s traded for Trey Lance.

The reason for this discussion is why I find it so funny. Some of these Niners' fans want to make the trade look better by arguing it was two #1s and not three #1s. They are building for an argument that if Lance fails, the trade is not quite that bad.

It's hysterical.

Personally, I have no strong opinion on Lance at this point. Too early for me to have an opinion.

I had that very same discussion with my dad, a whiner fan. I ended it by listing the assets exchanged, it cost them three picks to acquire one pick. They can try to phrase or spin it however they want but the assets exchanged don't change.

I have enjoyed your posts for a long time but had no idea you were dealing with THAT.

I'm sure there are many Niner fans that are very fine people.
Personally, I have never known any but I am sure there are. Probably. Solid Maybe.

My deepest sympathies for your troubles.

My entire family is dominated by them. Myself and an Uncle are really the only Rams fans. Maybe a nephew in SoCal.

My father grew-up near Yankee Stadium, watching the Giants; and was a life-long / die-hard Giants' fan.

At the age of eight, I was watching a Rams-Vikings game with him on a small, portable black-and-white-TV, when I announced that I was a Rams' fan ... it was the helmets.

My father's eyes never left the screen, he just matter-of-factly said: "We live in New York, we are Giants' fans."

I sadly asked if that meant I could not be a Rams' fan.

He looked at me, smiled and said: "You can root for any team you want."

He's been gone 36 years now, and I still miss him but have great memories; and feel very grateful and lucky.

The uncle I mentioned above is my mom's youngest brother who's only 7 years older than me, more my big brother than Uncle. Super Bowl XIV he was rooting for the Rams so I was too. That guy that's my avatar quickly became my favorite player and been backing the team ever since.

The question has yet to be fully answered. Did they trade 3 first round picks for a top three QB? Or did they trade three first round picks for the equivalent of a backup QB worth a fifth round pick? That would be funny.

@OldSchool What's your dad's take on Lance and the compensation to draft him?
Most all of the family are nervous about how he does. They trust in Shanny, for now, and hope for the best. But if Lance fails it will be bad for Shanny and/or Lynch with the fanbase.

I really thought Mayfield would be a very good QB, but I’m out on him now. I don’t think he’s got the leadership qualities needed to take a team to a Super Bowl or deep into the playoffs. He had the Oline, RBs, receivers and good enough defense to make some noise but that crap with OBJ and claiming he doesn’t fit the offense sounded personal. There is no place for that on a team.

From all accounts Jimmy Gs teammates love him.
I think his team talks shit about him. Bennett calling him out like that makes me wonder if he's a leader. 9ers players were talking him up, sure, but how much of that was fluff for the media, just guys trying to convince themselves he could get it done.

The team probably unilaterally does not believe in him now, after that NFC Championship loss. It's kind of like Everett after the '89 playoffs tbh. It's not fair but that's the league.

And for the record you're probably right about Mayfield. I think he's gonna bust too. But there's still a chance with him, at least in my mind. There isn't for Jimmy. He's a bottom third guy period IMO, maybe a backup. Probably a backup.

IMO, the biggest mistake the 49ers made wasn't which QB they took, but rather it was not recognizing their championship window. Imagine if they had drafted Ja'Marr Chase last year instead of any of the QBs and rolled with Jimmy G (which they did anyways). That would have been enough to put them over the top and win it all last year (IMO). They had a win-now roster needing just one more piece to get them there. But they took a long-term developmental prospect that made almost no contribution last year and left them coming up just short.

Now in year 2 Lance's rookie deal, instead of loading up to win this year while their QB is on his rookie deal, they are devoting that potential extra cap space to the bridge QB while the developmental prospect continues to develop. And by the time that prospect is really ready to contribute, all their star players who on their own rookie deals (Bosa and Deebo, among others) will be coming up for mega contract extensions and they will never really get to exploit that window of opportunity that they had this year and last.

Excellent points. That was the move.

So Lance has to take days off in the summer and they are re working his throwing motion? :laugh2:

You guys care to have another take on the dangerous ‘Trey Lance’?

exactly. They got distracted by the fact Stafford went to the Rams and got caught trying to keep up with the joneses instead of focusing on their team and the fact they were close.

They spent THREE 1rst rounders on lance?
Just imagine what they could have done using the Rams’ formula?
They could have brought in guys like…OBJ, vmiller, etc..

It costs a little more because you aren’t drafting rookie contracts, but you get some great, proven players like Ramsey and Stafford.

You hit it on the head. The better the roster/closer to a title a team might be, the more you need a proven high end player to put you over the top—not a developmental guy.
At the very least, you draft a day one starter.

In the case of lance, there were 3 first rounders sitting on the bench when the 9ers lost a very close title game. Ouch!
