Actually Schottenheimer has opened up the passing game under both Fisher and Carroll, only to get shut down each time by his head coach because it was perceived as undermining the defense. Seattle was really slinging it the first half of last year.

I don’t think that was Shottenheimers forte. Yes Fisher handcuffed him but also hired him for his conservative approach.

Never thought I'd come to Schotty's defense, but here I am.
If Seattle had even a mediocre defense the entire year, the Seahawks woulda gone much farther.
Could be that the high flying "let Russ cook" stuff put the D on the field too much and Carroll wanted to essentially expose the D less which had to have Schotty frustrated...
It'd be like hooking a Bugatti Chiron to a stacker trailer. You could do it, but it'd be frustrating as heck seeing as the trailer would start wobbling before you got fully into 2nd gear...
Schotty's big test will be if he can get Trevor Lawrence up to speed ASAP and get him productive while reducing rookie mistakes...
