Maurice Alexander and his play

856375172.0.jpg

I've posted before that I'm a big fan of the 'homegrown' Rams players and of Maurice, but I've been crazy irritated by his play.
Take a look at this pic...

That shoulder looks pretty heavily wrapped, but I don't recall MA on any injury reports. Could this be what's caused him to not look for contact, not make an aggressive play on the ball (too many times), and take so many bad angles (yea, sorry MA, shoulder don't explain those). But if he's out there toughing it out, might that be cause for hope that he will get back to playing at last year's level? I hope so because he's been the biggest disappointment to me on the D. My very simple uninformed opinion of course.

Cam Newton gives sexist answer to female reporter’s legitimate question
Posted by Michael David Smith on October 4, 2017

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton made a sexist comment to a female reporter today, smirking at her question and telling her he found it “funny” to hear a woman ask a question about football.

The incident started during Newton’s normal media appearance. Jourdan Rodrigue, a female reporter for the Charlotte Observer, asked Newton a completely legitimate question about Panthers receiver Devin Funchess.

Jourdan Rodrigue

“Cam, I know you take a lot of pride in seeing your receivers play well,” Rodrigue said. “Devin Funchess has seemed to really embrace the physicality of his routes and getting those extra yards. Does that give you a little bit of enjoyment to see him kind of truck sticking people out there?”

Newton was smirking while Rodrigue asked the question, and he made a totally inappropriate comment before answering.

“It’s funny to hear a female talk about routes. It’s funny,” Newton said, before then giving some thoughts about Funchess growing as a receiver.

Neither Rodrigue nor any of her colleagues in the local media followed up on that comment from Newton, but Rodrigue later took to Twitter to address the matter.

“I don’t think it’s ‘funny’ to be a female and talk about routes. I think it’s my job,” Rodrigue wrote. “I spoke with him after and it was worse. I chose not to share, because I have an actual job to do today and one he will not keep me from.”

Newton has surely spoken to hundreds of female reporters in the years that he’s been a famous athlete. It’s stunning that he would suggest that there’s something “funny” about a woman asking him a question about football.

Newton will apologize because the Panthers, the NFL and his sponsors will urge him to, but here’s hoping he offers more than just a rote apology. A person with that big a platform should put a lot more thought into his words than Newton did today.

Good Radio Talk About Rams v Hawks

Sorry to create a thread for this but I didn't see a thread where it wouldn't get buried. You know how unsatisfied I am with LA Ram coverage on LA radio stations like the "Rams" station, ESPNLA. Even now with the Rams at 3-1 and facing a divisional rival on Sunday, there is barely 5-10 minutes in an hour, compared to 40 minutes about LeBrawn James (not even an LA player) or general NBA news...

Anyway, the OTHER 710 ESPN in Seattle has almost wall to wall coverage about the game, and it hasn't been all that homer-ific. You can find and listen to the station live at http://sports.mynorthwest.com/
or on the TuneIn app......

It's just so striking how little the Rams matter on LA radio.

Week 5 Score Prediction Contest... Seattle @ LA Rams

Before we begin, a moment of silence for those who lost their lives in the horrible shooting in Las Vegas this past week.

Now on to the matter at hand. Its SHEATTLE week here at ROD and time for the weekly score prediction thread. The mighty LA Rams went down to the Big D and came out with a big W putting them at 3-1 for the season, while the Seahags managed to win against the Colts with a big 2nd half.

So lets get down to business. Stop off at your local Starfucks, grab a muchogrande whatever the hell they call coffee, and get those score predictions in.

The person who post the closest prediction to the final score, including the correct winner, will win $10,000 RODollars. Nail the exact winning score and win $25,000.

Remember, in case of a tie, the prize goes to person who posted first. All exact winners will split the prize.

And I promise this week I will wait until I am sober before picking out the winner, unlike the last 2 weeks.

Obviously, we're all pleasantly surprised by the offense and it's productivity.

But questions remain about the defense. Switching from a 4-3 to a 3-4 can be difficult - especially if your personnel was selected for a 4-3. Phillips has a track record of turning things around... but can it be done as quickly as first year? Was that second half in DAL the start of a trend... or an aberration?

Will the opposing defensive coordinators figure out a way to slow down the offense?

How do you feel about depth (should the injury bug hit the Rams)?

So, let's roll all that together and take a poll...

How confident are you that the Rams can sustain this early success? Extrapolated out, the current success rate works out to 12-4. Maybe a tall order... but 10-6? That should get them into the playoffs.

article: Pharoh Cooper=best kick returner in NFL this season

I guess based on numbers but his one fumble and several ill advised returns have also cost the team. But I guess he is getting it done the other times. Needs to make smarter choices though.

http://theramswire.usatoday.com/2017/10/04/nfl-los-angeles-rams-pharoh-cooper-kickoff-return-stats/

There’s been no shortage of superlatives for the Los Angeles Rams this season. They have the league’s best offense, one of the top coaches and an elite running back who’s second in yards from scrimmage.

You probably knew all of that, but you may not have realized the Rams also have the NFL’s best kickoff returner.

pharohcooperpregame.jpg

Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

Pharoh Cooper has quietly had a very strong season returning kicks this season despite not taking one back for a touchdown. Through four games, Cooper leads the league in just about every relevant kick return category.

He’s No. 1 in attempts (11), yards (300), average (27.3), longest return (66 yards) and returns of at least 20 yards (nine).

Surprisingly, no player in the NFL has returned a kickoff for a touchdown yet this season, and only one punt has been taken back to the house. This is the direct result of the NFL continuously trying to phase out kickoffs, which has resulted in fewer kicks being taken out of the end zone.

Cooper does have one fumble this season, but that hasn’t overshadowed how great he’s been returning kickoffs. He was a big part of the Rams’ win on Sunday, too. His 66-yard return set up a field goal by Greg Zuerlein to pull Los Angeles within four points.

Tavon Austin has been shaky, but the Rams’ special teams have been fantastic this season.

BSPN insiders not buying into Rams

Shocking I tell you. Guess these guys haven't watched any games. Guess if they can't rip on Goff and the Rams, it's no longer fun for them. Also I like how Washington at home and at Dallas are considered part of the Rams' cupcake schedule. Thought Dallas had won 8 straight at home and were back after their MNF win. Now they stink. Also, haven't Arizona and Seattle both played Indy and SF as well?

Rams game to air on CBS now in LA (originally KCAL9)

Looks like CBS said F the rules and moved the chargers game to kcal 9.

For those unaware of the tv situation, chargers had to play on my kcop 13 this weekend since fox owned the rights to both of our games. Fox kept the rams on fox 11 due to them being the “road” team, supposedly an nfl rule.

This weekend the opposite situation occurs with CBS having the rights to both games. The rams were scheduled to be on kcal 9 (I had already set a dvr recording) but have now moved to CBS 2.

Another round lost for the chargers in the fight for la.

Rams running back Todd Gurley was the NFC’s offensive player of the month for September and his first October outing showed no sign that he’ll be slowing down.

Gurley ran the ball 23 times for 121 yards and caught seven passes for 94 yards, including a 53-yard touchdown, in the Rams’ 35-30 victory over the Cowboys. He has been named the NFC’s offensive player of the week in recognition of those efforts.

Gurley’s touchdown was his seventh on the year, which is the most in the league through the first four weeks, and he ranks second in the league in rushing behind Kareem Hunt of the Chiefs. Gurley is also one of three players in NFL history with at least 575 yards from scrimmage and seven touchdowns in the first four games of a season.

Those numbers mark a major rebound from his poor 2016 season and a big reason why the Rams have opened the year with three wins in their first four games.

The Rams offense put up 35 points against the Cowboys last Sunday, but they only got the ball in the end zone twice.

That means there was a lot for kicker Greg Zuerlein to do over the course of the 35-30 win. Zuerlein delivered every time.

Zuerlein hit all seven field goals he tried and added a pair of extra points to account for 23 of the team’s points and continue his perfect start to the 2017 season. Zuerlein has now made 14-of-14 field goals and 14-of-14 extra points for the 3-1 Rams and his most recent outing was determined good enough for the league to make him the NFC special teams player of the week.

It’s the fourth time that Zuerlein has won weekly honors during his career and he joined running back Todd Gurley as winners of a weekly award for the Rams on Wednesday.

Traveling to LA for a Game

So I come home from work today and my wife is asking if I'd be able to get the 27th of November off.

My birthday is the 30th.

Anyhow, push comes to shove she wants to get tickets to go see the Rams vs Saints game.

She asked me to make this thread ( I talk about the great community we have here constantly).

She want recommendations on stay in LA. ETC ETC ETC. We also briefly discussed flying into Vegas and then driving a rental. We live in Utah so we also have the option of just driving ourselves.

Any and all suggestions I would love to have.

I spend a ridiculous amount of time on here discussing the Rams with you fellow fans. I think I'll share this with my wife and encourage her to create an account. When I first met her she knew nothing about football, but now she sits there and understands what is going on with the game.

Let it rip LA natives.
