OK, let me have it ... who am I forgetting or where did I F-up ?

Like a movie, Super Bowl LVI was a rollercoaster of emotions, with ups, downs, and a Hollywood ending:

Act 1: "I love it when a plan comes together!"
Things were going as scripted for the Rams from the opening gun until the 12:51 mark of the second quarter. Two touchdown drives and, apart from a long completion that set up a Bengals field goal, the defense was holding firm. The Rams were lined up to kick an extra point to take a 14-3 lead, when...

Act 2: A Series of Unfortunate Events
A botched extra point foreshadowed an avalanche of mishaps and misfortune. The Rams allow a long TD drive and then, disaster strikes with OBJ getting injured. The offense goes into disarray, ending the drive with an interception in the end zone. Then, when the second half opens, a blown call by the refs results in a long TD for the Bengals, and a drop by Ben Skowronek gives the Bengals the ball right back with a chance to expand the lead to two scores. Then, at the 14:18 mark of the third quarter, a hero emerged...

Act 3: "That's how winning is done!"
Aaron Donald gets two sacks to hold the Bengals to three points, keeping the game in reach. The rest of the defense follows suit, unleashing a vicious pass rush to keep the Bengals offense at bay, while the Rams offense regroups. The offense finds a way, with Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp doing what they've done all year - refusing to be shut down. Then, to seal the deal, Donald embraces his destiny as perhaps the greatest to ever strap on a helmet. Triumph!

All we're waiting on now are the mid and post credits scenes to give us a glimpse of what's next because, with a story this good... there's always a sequel!

Being that everyone is in good spirits I've decided that I'll be going through every major position group this off-season. I figured the WR group would be an interesting one to go through since it's had such a high turnover rate this season due to injuries. I'll only be including starters and not practice squad players.

Ben Skowronek - 6'-3" 225lbs ST / WR -
Rookie grade: C+
A 2021 7th round draft pick out of Notre Dame. Slated to be a pure special teamer this off-season, he however got his shot when players like Woods went down and OBJ was getting acclimated to the Rams offense. He had some moments or flashes of what he could bring to our offense when given the chance. A big bodied strong WR at the point of attack. If you watch his tape at Notre Dame he flourished in the RedZone due to his size and skill of highpointing the ball.
I know some are down on skow but being a ST and given very limited practice time I think he has a bright future w the Rams. We have to remember where he was drafted, what his situation was this year and how he was thrown into the deep end. I could see him putting on ten pounds and becoming more of a hybrid TE/WR RedZone threat. Game just has to slow down for him.

Tutu Atwell - 5'-9" 165lbs - WR
Rookie Grade: N/A
A second round pick out of Louisville. A college standout as a sophomore with over 1200 yards and 12TDs in 11 of 13 games. He biggest question mark is his size. Can someone that weighs barely more than a prepubescent middle schooler make it in the NFL? If history has shown us anything it's an emphatic no. While the jury is still out on this 2nd round pick due to an early season ending injury he's already off to a rough start. The only film I did see of him was in preseason and from a basic eye test he did not look like a special player to me. However, we have to be careful in writing off players that we haven't given a fair chance to. Example Jamar Chase. He looked awful in camp and in preseason, and many fans were already declaring a bust. We all know how he turned out.
My main question for Atwell is how will mcVay use him? Will he be a gadget type of player? Taking over a Tavon Austin type of role? Or is he going to be more of a burner that clears out defenses? I'm leaning towards the first of the two. If you go back to watch his tape the kid can clearly play but as we've seen with so many of these type of fringe or tween players they often get lost in the mix because they cannot be full contributors. Clearly mcVay has a plan for him or he could be a complete bust. With the addition of OBJ and Powell being a good kick returner tutu could be nothing more than overdrafted 2nd rounder. Ouch. Time will tell.

Van Jefferson - 6'-1" 200lbs - WR
Second year grade: B+
A second round pick in 2020 entering his 3rd year w the Rams as the #3 WR. After completing his biggest year with the Rams having over 800 yards and 6 TDs he showed flashes of his crisp route running and speed on the outside taking multiple TDs to the house. My biggest question mark for Van is his ability to beat man coverage. While he's a great 3rd WR option I fear this is all he will ever be if he doesn't learn to become stronger at the point of attack. He often disappears in games but to be fair he is the 3rd option and often gets lost in the mix. I think everyone expects him to get better being WRs often take 3 to 5 years to peak at the position. If he does continue to improve he will eventually take over the No. 2 spot, as woods and OBJ will eventually age out, the Rams will need to be prepared to have their replacement.

Woods and OBJ - #2 WR
Grade: A-
So I decided to put these two in the same category because I view them as both equally skilled but two completely different WRs. Woods as more of the utility WR that does everything well and OBJ as the skilled deep threat with glue for hands. Both have great route running skills and mesh very well with what the Rams want to accomplish on offense. I think brining them both back is a must. However there is a caveat that needs to be discussed. Hypothetically if the Rams bring both back, woods and OBJ will probably miss a lot of training camp. Woods might be 100% around the start of preseason but ACLs take about a full year to recover from. Not to mention reinjury is a possibility. OBJ probably will not be back until week 4 or 6 at best if he doesn't have any setbacks. Which means Stafford and the Rams will again have to deal with reshuffling next year in the WR room. So how do the Rams make this work? As of right now I do not have an answer on this. Not every player is Akers and comes back full strength 6 months after a Achilles tear.
This will take some creativity from the Rams FO and some luck. But in a perfect world if we can have Kupp, Woods and OBJ running our base 11 personnel. Watch out NFL you've been put on notice.

Kupp - #1 WR
Grade: GOAT
What more can you say about Kupp? He's accomplished something that's never been done before in the NFL.

Jerry rice was able to achieve these accolades throughout his ENTIRE career. Kupp was able to do it in one season. He's the real MVP and no one can dispute that.


This off-season will be an interesting one for the Rams. They will have 40+ mil come off the books for Goff, Gurely, and Brockers. While some of that cap will be used to extend players and sign some new FAs. The Rams are in pretty good shape as it sits right now for 2022. The future is bright.

What should the Rams work on improving? I saw news where it's possible Saffold is FA. I think he'd be an awesome signing at the right price as he'd give us way more push in the run game.

Just heard on radio that one of the talking heads said they will be breaking news today on his retirement announcement.
Not a shocker and hope he stays on with us as a coach.
What a great leader and man in general and thanks to him for his contribution as a Ram.

It was anything but sure.....

The McVay Rams' had lost to his former boss Kyle Shanahan, 6 times in a row. The Rams were branded in Super Bowl 53 as a finesse team that could only score 3 points on the biggest stage. the Bullies from frisco invaded with all of their fans into SoFi to stake their claim to the 5 billion dollar stadium as Levi South.
We out bullied, the bullies.

The GOAT charged back from 27-3 to tie the game. Instead of tightening up and just trying to get to OT, McVay set Stafford loose to do what he brought him to LA to do, against his conservative 4th quarter urges. He went for the win instead of the tie, and retired the GOAT.
He went outside his comfort Zone and did what Super Bowl 53 McVay couldn't do and won.

Against all of the haters who wanted the new Joe Cool to win it all, Sean went to battle with his stars. Troy Aikman can suck it for all eternity, with his "All Star Teams Never Win" BS. Kurt Warner can wear his Bengals colored suit and stew in his juices, while Sean McVay vindicated his style of coaching and offensive schemes. He beat his former boss and his achieving coaching tree to the Lombardi. Two Super Bowl appearances and one ring in 4 years.
Sean's a bad man.

If you care about such things. One more trip down subjective grading lane. Nothing too surprising though.

Rams PFF grades: Best and worst performers from Super Bowl LVI​

For as well as Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp and Odell Beckham Jr. played in Super Bowl LVI, it was the defense that truly came through and delivered a ring for the Los Angeles Rams. Pro Football Focus’ grades support that, with several defenders earning high marks for the way they played on Sunday.
Three Rams defenders had grades over 89.5, and that doesn’t even include Aaron Donald. Cooper Kupp was the highest-graded player on offense, followed by Andrew Whitworth and Matthew Stafford.

We broke down the top (and bottom) players on each side of the ball with grades from PFF.

Top 3 offense​

• WR Cooper Kupp: 85.2
• LT Andrew Whitworth: 83.3
• QB Matthew Stafford: 78.7

Surprise, surprise. The Super Bowl MVP was the Rams’ highest-graded player on offense in this game, with Kupp catching eight passes for 92 yards and two touchdowns. He took over on the game-winning drive, even picking up a critical first down on fourth-and-1 with a 7-yard rush. He was a star – as usual.
Whitworth didn’t allow a single pressure in the game, according to PFF, and earned an 82.9 run-blocking grade. That’s the very definition of a stud at left tackle, winning his matchup with Trey Hendrickson.
Stafford had one turnover-worthy play, which was his first interception – a deep shot to Van Jefferson. His second pick went off of Ben Skowronek’s hands, in no way Stafford’s fault. He didn’t play his best game of the year, but Stafford was plenty good enough and two of his three touchdown passes were into tight windows.

Top 3 defense​

• OLB Von Miller: 93.5
• OLB Leonard Floyd: 90.4
• DE A’Shawn Robinson: 89.5

The Rams had three defenders with grades of at least 89.5. That’s remarkable – and all of them play along the defensive front. Miller had six pressures and two stops, recording another two sacks in the Super Bowl.
Floyd had one sack of his own, along with three pressures, earning his highest overall grade of the season. He did a nice job rushing off the left side of the defense opposite Miller.
Robinson was an unsung hero in this win, posting his second-best overall grade as a member of the Rams. He had a season-high three pressures and made three stops in the running game, sacking Joe Burrow once. He was dominant against the run.

Bottom 3 offense​

• RB Cam Akers: 52.9
• WR Ben Skowronek: 49.8
• TE Kendall Blanton: 47.3

Akers could find no running room at all in this one, rushing for just 21 yards on 13 carries. The run blocking wasn’t great and he did force four missed tackles, but the production simply wasn’t there.
Skowronek was targeted five times, but he only caught two passes for 12 yards and his drop in the third quarter was costly, resulting in an interception and three points for the Bengals.
Blanton was surprisingly out-snapped by Brycen Hopkins, and also out-produced by him. Blanton wasn’t targeted a single time and in 14 run-blocking snaps, he had a grade of just 62.7

Bottom 3 defense​

• S Taylor Rapp: 49.6
• S Nick Scott: 48.7
• OLB Justin Hollins: 47.8

Eric Weddle thankfully stepped up and played well because Rapp and Scott both struggled. Rapp allowed four catches on four targets, giving up 38 yards in coverage. He didn’t miss any tackles, though, and had six tackles in the box score.
Scott missed tackles on two of his four attempts, which really hurt his overall grade. He was only targeted once and gave up a single 6-yard reception.
Hollins did a little bit of everything: four run-defense snaps, four pass-rush snaps and three in coverage. Unfortunately, he missed one tackle and didn’t have a pressure in the win.

Other notables​

• DT Aaron Donald: 82.6
• WR Odell Beckham Jr.: 77.7
• S Eric Weddle: 77.2
• RG Austin Corbett: 72.4
• TE Brycen Hopkins: 68.6
• CB Jalen Ramsey: 60.0

It’s surprising to see Donald outside the top three on defense, finishing with the fifth-best grade on that side of the ball. He registered a team-high seven pressures and tied for the most stops (4) on the Rams, so he easily could’ve had a higher grade.
Beckham was well on his way to a great game before injuring his knee, catching two passes for 52 yards and the opening touchdown.
Weddle played every snap and made five tackles despite tearing his pec, coming up and recording two stops in the win, too. His tackle short of the sticks on first-and-10 three plays before the Bengals’ final fourth-down attempt helped the Rams win the game.
Corbett wasn’t great as a pass blocker (46.4 grade) but he excelled as a run blocker, recording an 81.5 grade in that department. He only allowed one pressure, too.
Hopkins stepped up in a huge way at tight end with Tyler Higbee out, catching four passes for 47 yards. His grade wasn’t very high, but he played well.
Ramsey didn’t have his best on Sunday night, allowing five receptions for a team-high 160 yards in coverage. He was dragged to the ground by his facemask on Tee Higgins’ 75-yard touchdown, so that shouldn’t have counted, but Ramsey has had better games.

There is no doubt that Kupp is very deserving of the MVP. (I'm all for it)
He is elusive, impossible to cover, plays the game incredibly fast and catches everything within a mile thrown to him.
He had an amazing game and was paramount to winning the Super Bowl.

With that said, there are others that were right there with him.

*Matt Stafford

The Bengals took away our running game, making us one dimensional on offense. All we had was the passing game.

No play action.

We were already down his 2nd favorite target this year in Higbee.

Obj gets knocked out with a torn ACl.

Blanton goes out after playing a significant role the past two weeks in the playoffs.
Leaving us with Kupp, Hopkins, Jefferson and Skowronik.
We even had Hendo out ther running routes.

Stafford answered the call with a stellar performance, on the largest stage in the world.


*Aron Donald

The guy is an absolute game changer.
At times, he was being triple covered, allowing guys like Miller, Jones and Fowler to go man to man or unblocked.

The defense in the second half, lead by Donald, was light out.


So, who is your pick for Super Bowl MVP

I've had over a dozen times in the last 24 hours when I've thought, "Holy crap, I can't quite believe the Rams won the freaking Super Bowl!!!"

In '99, I truly believed all year they were the best team in the NFL. The GSOT was undoubtedly a team of destiny.

But this year.... man, what a freaking roller coaster ride. How did we survive that awful 3 game losing streak?!! And that absolutely crazy horrifying comeback by Tampa? And that EXCRUCIATING game for the NFC title? And that Super Bowl... so close I couldn't bear it!!

IS THIS REAL LIFE?!?!?!?

Can anyone come up with any strange but true Rams observations. I noticed one, so I'll go first:

Both Rams Super Bowl victories, the Rams scored 23. Not easy to score 23, but the Rams did in both SB wins. Strange, but true!

I’m wondering about Kenny Young, DJax, and the litany of guys who bounced on and off the practice squad.

I’d like one myself, but I’m not sure I’ll get one this year.

Was the no look throw to Kupp one of the best throws in Super Bowl history? Maybe im still high and delirious who knows? But damn what a freaking throw.

I am tired of many things that have been staples of Rams conversation 21 years. I loved Super Bowl 34 and its players...or at least those who didn't wear Bengals colors on Sunday....

I want new pictures and stories about Super Bowl 56, instead of those from Super 34 as the prime example of Rams Super Bowl success. I want to see Matthew Stafford holding up the Lombardi instead of Kurt Warner. I want to remember AD manhandling Joe Burrows on 4th and 1, and seeing him point to his rings finger, instead of the Tackle by Mike Jones of Tyson. We have new iconic moments to celebrate, and a current STUD QB instead of Cardinal homer, Kurt Warner.

I am also looking forward to the end of the "all in" and pushing the chips to the center" commentary. How about describing why Les Snead is just better at being a GM than most in the NFL GM's. We are governed by the same rules as everyone else, so don't let idiots get away with dismissing us as having bought a Championship

Everyone knows how big the main guys came up; Kupp, Stafford, Donald, Miller, etc. but I think lost in the light are some guys that had some pretty major impacts in one way or another that people are talking about:

Ernest Jones - He seemed to be around the ball on every play. He had a pretty great sack after getting cut blocked, hopped up and took Burrow down. He had a few pretty important tackles that limited the yards gained on catches. Maybe his best contribution was keeping Reeder on the bench however. (1 sack 7 total tackles)

A'Shawn - wrecking machine against the run and even got a fair amount of pass rush pressure (1 sack, 6 total tackles).

Weddle - What a tough son of a bitch. Tore his pec early in the game and manned the fuck up to finish game. He certainly didn't shy away from hits due to it either.

Eli Apple - for talking shit about how you were gonna shut down Kupp/OBJ and then get roasted on the winning TD. If you pretend to be a top cover corner, play like one (just not against us sucka).

Cincy OLine - Maybe not unsung, but they had the turnstiles churning in the 2nd half of the game. They actually played pretty well in the 1st half, but ran out of steam or got tired of getting steam rolled by Donald.

CJ Uzomah - Thank you for coming back but not being able to be 100%. I'm sure that had something to do with his lack of production. He sure as hell manned up to play, but should he have?

Cooper Kupp - but not for all the catches and TD's, for missing Stafford so bad on that trick play. Stafford was about to get knocked out on that hospital route, had the throw been accurate. Think our chances of victory dramatically reduce with The Wolf in there.

Hendo - He made some absolutely clutch catches when we had nobody to throw to. Additionally, he had some nice blitz pick ups. No sure why he didn't get more play time (Akers was ineffective as hell).

Hopkins - Dude has like zero experience or snaps since he was drafted, and has a ton of run in the biggest game of his life. He actually played fairly well (blocking needed some help) in the passing game. We were down to ONE eligible TE on the roster and he played pretty good.

The Refs - I'm fairly certain they missed a pretty blatant false start towards the end of the game on that Kupp PI play. It looked like the LT clearly was up in blocking position before the ball was snapped. Yes, they missed some big calls to, but, that certainly helped us in the end and that is a call all the refs on the field could of and should have likely made. The Higgins PI was likely only one refs call.

Super happy the Rams are Super Bowl champs and Reeder played fairly well and Jones made some good plays...but can't seem to find any stories as to why I never saw Howard in the game even though he wasn't inactive?

So the SB Champ hosts week 1 Thursday night generally speaking or at least that's been the case the last two or three years? Who do you think we host? For crowd reasons I'm doubting it's the Niners or Raiders maybe throw out the Cowboys too? How about getting our rings in front of Seattle? Either of the AFC South teams would be good to host too IMO.
