What Captivates You?

I guess I am a weirdo in some respects. When browsing YouTube, there are channels that focus on math. They will display a math problem thumbnail that I will automatically start trying to solve. Even working with fractions, which I try to do in my head without using pencil and paper, I learned a method of adding/subtracting fractions called the bowtie method, which was never taught in school where I went. I also click to hear explanations beyond my mechanical ability to work the problem.

I love Sudoku and will get wrapped in a hard puzzle and refuse to let it beat me!

Some are captivated by the boobs and buns threads, ya horn toads! (lookin' at you @OldSchool !)

For some, it might be running across a favorite movie in progress and you can't turn the channel until you watch it all.

post a subject that so fascinates you that you get lost in it....

GAME DAY GDT: 49’ers at Rams - Week 2

Sunday September 17, 2023
San Francisco 49ers vs. Los Angeles Rams: 4:05pm ET, FOX

Game Day Thread

The GDT is a live thread tradition here at ROD.

While we all get fired up watching the game, please remember our core principles;we always show respect for our team and each other.

Despite the emotional highs and lows watching a game, we will moderate this thread with that in mind, however please refrain from name calling. This applies to players, the Rams organization, and others.

This is the core rule of the GDT. Moderators are tasked to issue thread bans, at a minimum, to maintain this standard.

This is our team. Win or lose. Good days and bad. We are here for FUN, not to be dragged down.

A more loosely moderated atmosphere can be found in the chat room.

Go Rams!

Gameday menu! What's cookin in your kitchen this weekend?

I usually try to match food with the opponent we are matched up against. Last week was the hot dogs with cream cheese and grilled onions and I gotta say they were pretty good. During the game my wife got such a craving for seafood she ended up doing a crab boil as well.

This week what I have written on my menu doesn't really relate with the niners in any way that I can think of. . .

But at my house we are planning to have Chicken N Waffles.

What are all your plans!?

This is just sad

It already is time for the Faithful to head to their southern California “home-away-from-home,” and as usual, the stands will be full of red when the 49ers face the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium on Sunday.

Per ticket marketplace Vivid Seats’ Fan Forecast, at least 64 percent of the crowd will be wearing 49ers' red and gold Sunday, leaving only 36 percent wearing the Rams’ blue and yellow. Of course this comes as no surprise to reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Nick Bosa, who also was pleased to see the amount of Faithful in Pittsburgh in Week 1.

“It’s great,” Bosa said Wednesday. “I think we have the best-traveling fan base overall. Pittsburgh was impressive and I think we’ll take over L.A."

The 49ers also will wear their home red jerseys this weekend, making the atmosphere feel even more like a Levi's Stadium game.

A Vivid Seats spokesperson said that a proprietary algorithm that uses more than geography to predict fan affiliation believes that there is a large faction of 49ers fans living in southern California. Of course, this is standard operating procedure for the Faithful at all away venues.

The Los Angeles takeover is nothing new to either team as the SoFi stands have been predominantly red when the 49ers travel south since the stadium opened in 2020. Not only is this fun for 49ers fans, but it also gives San Francisco's defense an assist forcing Matthew Stafford and the Rams offense to use a silent count as a result of the noise.

This showing of 49ers fans in Los Angeles will rival the 65 percent that were in attendance for the 2021 NFC Championship Game, and is more than the 60 percent that showed up for their Week 18 contest just a few weeks before the conference title game.

My Thoughts: Rams vs Niners and Beyond

I look at Sunday's game as a learning opportunity. Yes, I still hate the Niners with the burning fire of a thousand suns, but like many others here I feel that this game is the ultimate test for this team in all phases,

First of all, our team is young and hungry. They don't know to believe the talking heads that they are supposed to suck. They plain outphysicaled (prolly not a word) the SeaChickens. IF the Rams win this Sunday, the speculation will be wild as to how good the Rams can be by the professional media. Get ready for Sean and Les being called savants again. The media will be pissed that our team not only "bought" a Super Bowl but then we didn't have the decency to suck for a decade after the remodel.

If our Oline can hold back that ferocious Niner 4 man defensive front for 2-3 seconds, Matthew Stafford swill carve these bitches up. Not in the short game, but in longer developing routes. I liked what I saw from Tutu and he seems to be ready to tear the top off a defense (even the Niners), I think it was Jourdan that pointed out that he is jogging in motion before the snap of the ball, allowing him to cross the LOS at top speed. If he can get by the LOS without getting bumped/hit, the lil' dude will get behind these bastids and then watch for that beautiful Stafford pass over the top. I think Puka will play his role, but the Niners will try to shut him down like they did Kupp in past games. Benny Skow and Higbeast will catch balls over the middle to extend drives. Occasionally, Williams will have a good gain on the ground, but the Niners are good enough to stop our running attack, cold. The offense begins and ends with what the big uglies can do up front and I believe they will do well. maybe not as well as against the Hawks, but they are not finesse at all and the Niners have not faced a recent Rams team that can smack folks in the mouth (Oline).

Our No Name Defense played well. Our secondary played surprisingly well. Ernest Jones is a monster in the middle. John Johnson didn't even play on Sunday and he has been pretty physical with Kittle in past years. Sure, we need another Edge DE as has been discussed ad nauseum and a midseason acquisition is in the cards, depending how well the season goes. Our guys are playing with their hair on fire and that counts for a lot. As Coach Raheem says, "McCaffrey has been a pain in my ass," explaining that McCaffrey has harassed him in the NFC South and now in the West. As AD says, it's time to "Bow Up," This is our Aaron Rodgers heel, stopping him and the weapons they have.

I believe we can win and may call a win, outright. But what's more important is that it's a quality effort, win or lose. Make them feel the pressure of what youth and physicality will mean for them. Make Brock Purdy exclaim, "Oh Aaron!
Time to kick ass!

Three Week 2 games that could enhance Rams’ playoff chances.

After week 1, fans and commentators often repeat the mantra, "it's only one game."

After week 2, though, a pair of losses should elicit a different reaction. Since 1990, 270 teams have started 0-2. Of them, only 31 (11.5%) have made the playoffs.

In the NFC, there are three teams that made the playoffs in 2022 who started 0-1: Seattle, Minnesota and the New York Giants. Two of the three have a strong likelihood of dropping to 0-2, as the Vikings play tonight at Philadelphia, and Seahawks go to Detroit to play the upstart Lions in their home opener (the Giants, by contrast, will be favored at Arizona).

An 0-2 start for the Vikings and Seahawks could not only be a bad harbinger for them, it also could help pave the way for the Rams to get a playoff spot.

On average, half the teams who make the playoffs in a given year fail to return the next year.

The risers and fallers could start to emerge as early as this week.

Losing My Faith in Van Jefferson

I am hoping he can change that , but to this point I have seen little evidence that he
he can be a true wr2 behind Kupp. What troubles the most is his lack of aggressiveness
in attacking the ball in the air and his lack of positioning his body properly against
DB's on 50'/ 50 balls.

Huge sure TD drop shows how poorly he can position himself at times.
Not sure if Nacua is able to play Jeffersons position , but IMO,
When Kupp does return I am hoping to see Kupp, Nacua , Atwell starting.

Jourdan’s recent podcast

She talked a bit about how well the Rams coaches had game planned for that Seahawks game. They had everyone on the team locked into it.

I’m glad to hear it. In the past it seemed that McVay had a bit of a ‘this is what we are, I dare you to beat me approach’. It lost them his first Super Bowl and he never really was willing to abandon his outside ZBS or his 11 personnel for several years. I hope that this is a sign of things to come.

She also said that they had the defense keyed into Geno’s calls and tendencies and they were able to exploit them. No more playing it safe on defense with the deep cushions, hoping not to let anything behind them? If so I am going to love this season, win or lose. It’s too frustrating to watch them give games away.

The Pleasant affect

I watched the several plays on all 22 and this is a completely different defense. Pleasant has changed this defense as I hoped he would. No longer are the short zones left uncontested. With Pleasant everything is contested. I could see he's still learning who can do what but it worked. The coverage was tight for the most part. I think he was trying to use VanValkenburg and to a lesser extent Hoecht in WIL and SAM roles. IMO he's got the right concept just the wrong players.

I will give credit where it's due and there were some plays where Kendrick actually nailed the coverage. I think the problem right now is the safeties more than the CBs. Both Witherspoon and Kendrick played well on the outside. I think they really could have used Johnson back there instead of Yeast and Fuller. Fuller is a middle zone SS he struggles with his range when asked to play outside of his skillset. It's why I think by the end of the season it will be Lake playing that role. He's faster giving him better range. Too many times the safety was late, be it slow to read or lacking the range, either way Pleasant will have to clean it up.

The bottom line is that Aubrey's impact is all over this defense. He's got his secondary playing aggressively. As these guys get more experience the better they are going to be. By the end of the season this defense will be a strength not a weakness.

The front 6 needs to be simply played in a one gap penetration style. Do that and this will be a top 12 defense.

The secret to good homemade Popcorn

like at the movies , but at home

microwave popcorn doesn't come close

so the secret is ........................

well first , one of those stirring popcorn poppers , we use the West Bend Stir Crazy , but I'm sure most any stirring popcorn popper will work , there pretty much all the same , you probably could even just do it the old fashion way and make it over the stove

the secret is , the secret ingredients

butter flavored Coconut oil , and..........................Flavacol , it's like a yellow salt , it's what the movie theatres use

we always have to order them off of Amazon , because to stores around here don't sell them

The butter coconut oil comes as a solid , so put about two table spoon glops in the pooper and let it warm up and melt , then sprinkle about a tea spoon of Flavacol in the popper about the same time as the kernels

and enjoy , a little Flavacol goes a long ways , it's only takes a liitle , but you'll have to experiment to your liking

Never Celebrate An Injury... The Football Gods WILL GET YOU!

Check out what happened to these Packer Fans who basically celebrated A-a-ron going down Monday night and, almost worse, celebrated a Bills win before the game was actually over...

They drank like animals believing their bar tabs were going to be free with a Jets loss. LOL

Dumbass cheeseheads deserve this!
