Your “outside the box” personnel idea…

McVay drafted Sam Rogers in 2017 I believe…a fullback that did not make the team
I just watched some playoff replays. That flea flicker using Blanton was a great call and Blanton executed it perfectly.

Kendall isn’t the typical thick Stoudt fullback type but I wonder if McVay envisions him in that role?

Or is he a jag and got his five minutes of fame?

Rams Jeopardy!

I was thinking of Youngblood too but for the life of me could not remember the Rams drafting another Youngblood (George who?)

Edit - I was only 4 when they drafted George. My dad didn't get me into the Rams until 1970 at the earliest.
I had no clue about a George either. Born in LA and played at Cal State LA too.

I'm gonna ask my Pop if he remembers--been a Rams fan since the 50s. He probably will.

Update: New NFL overtime rule…Both teams get ball in playoff games

39 postseason overtime games.

From 1970-2000 there were 15. About 1 every other year. 11 of the 15 took at least 8 minutes of OT to decide. 4 of the first 7 went into double overtime and two others took more than 13 minutes of OT. Those first 7 averaged more than 15 minutes each.

From 2001-2021 there have been 24 postseason overtime games, more than 1 a year. Only 8 of them went more than 6 minutes with only 5 going 10 minutes or more. Two of those went to double OT.

The Rams were involved in the 3rd shortest OT game in the postseason (1:06 in 1989 PS) and the 6th longest (15:10 in the 2003 PS).

What makes me smile is Green Bay, with Favre and Rodgers have been in 6 postseason OT games since 2000 and have lost 5 of them. They lost in 4:48, 2:26, 1:18, 3:19 and 1:05. The only win came in that Seattle game when after winning the toss, Hassleback said, "we'll take the ball and we're gonna score". IIRC, he threw a pick and the OT lasted 4:25.

Controversy?
A facemask on Rodgers that wasn't called as Arizona returned a fumble to win 51-45 in 1:18.

First Class Stan

As a RAms fan since 1971 it has been a long strange trip. LA to Anaheim to St Louis to Englewood. I contemplated switching teams but it never happened. I was too invested in the horns and a stubborn sense of dedication. I’ve often told friends and family to take your time in picking your favorite team but once you do stick with them thru thick and thin. I am so thankful to Mr Kroenke, Coach McVay, Les Snead and the rest of the front office for making the Rams the top team in the NFL. It reinforces my belief that all the years of disappointment makes the current success all the more sweet.
You young pups.
I been a fan since '69, when the copters went down over Saigon, and I took my M-16 and....."

Well, we'll skip that part. Yep, the Rams are sweeet!

Rams and Stafford Agree on Extension

I’m not a pff rating guy but Kupp had to rate the highest of any offensive player in the NFL last year. He was close to perfect. For that he deserved and was crowned the offensive player of the year in the NFL.
However The NFL QB position is clearly the most important position in the league. As a result the best QB in the league is likely the most valuable player in the league. It’s just not close to the value of any other position. I would like to see the awards include performance in the playoffs. Including playoffs might have elevated Kupp to MVP.
They defend Rodgers (and other QBs) getting it by saying, "the QB touches the ball on every play". I don't agree with that but I also understand most years, you could point to a QB and say, "that's the MVP". The biggest factor Rodgers has won is his QB rating. And what negatively affects QB rating to an unbalanced degree? Interceptions. In the QB rating formula TD's are worth 20% less than Ints. Why? Not every interception costs the team but every TD goes on the scoreboard. If they tweaked the formula to reward TDs the same but penalize for interception half as much as TDs, Rodgers would have had a 113.8 QB rating and Stafford would have had a 110.0 QB rating. Not a huge difference. Hell I go so far to say they should reward yards per attempt a little more. Reward the guy more who throws it downfield over the guy who dinks and dunks.

All NFL teams must hire Minority Off Coach

It’s a share peg in a round hole solution.

20 years ago I had a chance at my dream job. I applied to be in charge of the Grand Tetons National park. After I got turned down I called the office to see how they felt I needed to build my resume to qualify for such a job. The office manager said that I was the most qualified candidate that they had apply in 20+ years. But I’m not a veteran nor a minority. She continued to say that they are forced to accept what so far has been under qualified applicants who cannot handle the job and they leave every 2-3 years.

It’s insanity.

I was a little kid (1972, I was 4) and back then, the ONLY way to get Danish butter cookies was from the duty free… and they were $30 in 1972 money (that’s gold standard money)

I grabbed an entire cup… three whole cookies..and my mom quickly grabbed them away from me, whooped my ass, and sent me to bed.

Now, when I see them, I buy the big tin and eat the whole damn thing with a smile on my face!!!

Returning to Rams was always the goal for Joe Noteboom

Returning to Rams was always the goal for Joe Noteboom

In Joe Noteboom's mind, there was only one place he wanted to be as free agency approached.

The goal for the Rams offensive lineman was always to return to Los Angeles. And it was accomplished in short order, as he and the team agreed to terms on a three-year contract during the negotiating window that he officially signed on March 16.

"I wanted to come back here, that was my main thought," Noteboom said during a video conference with reporters Monday.

In doing so, Noteboom helps ensure as seamless of a transition at left tackle as an NFL team could hope for.

The 26-year-old Noteboom will succeed 40-year-old Andrew Whitworth – who announced his retirement on March 15 – as quarterback Matthew Stafford's blindside protector after backing up Whitworth over the last four seasons.

During that time, Noteboom played in 47 games, which included six starts at left guard prior to a season-ending torn ACL and MCL in 2019, then nine games at left tackle in 2020 while Whitworth recovered from a knee injury, then two games at left tackle in 2021. He also started against the Buccaneers in the Divisional Round of this year's playoffs when a knee injury kept Whitworth out of that game.

When not starting last season, he served as the extra tight end in heavy formations when the Rams made adjustments to their run game late last season and began using those formations more.

"Joe does an outstanding job," Stafford said during a video conference with reporters Monday. "I mean, he's a plug-and-play player for us. Wherever we needed him, he stepped in and played at a high level against some really quality opponents. Looking forward to seeing his development on the left side and seeing him do his thing for a bunch of years."

Noteboom is well-positioned to continue doing that because of working with Whitworth and the example Whitworth set. Among the biggest takeaways from that experience for Noteboom was the professional Whitworth was and the way he carried himself, like coming in early and how he took care of his body.

Of course, the on-the-field teaching was valuable, too, but his ownership of a process that allowed him to continually play at a high level physically, as well as his community work, leadership in the locker room and treatment of younger players.

It gave Noteboom a clear plan on how to be successful at that spot, and the confidence succeed moving forward.

"Being behind him, there's no other better situation in the league," Noteboom said. "Sixteen-year vet, Walter Payton Man of the Year, I mean, to step into this role, I've had a blueprint for it for four years. I was watching his every move on and off the field, so that's what gives me confidence to go into this position."
